Photoshop :: What A Vector Is?
Jul 25, 2009I don't understand what a vector is.

View 3 RepliesI am making myself a logo in photoshop. I have made all the letters that will be used, but they are all seperate entities as most of you who have used vectors know. I would like to interconnect the letters, as well as an angel I have made to go above the letters. My question is, how can I join two seperate vector images into one vector image. For example, joining a letter E with a letter D. I wonder if theres a way to do this without having to delete part of each image and then re-draw, which is a pain. Sorry if this isn't really clear, but its hard to explain.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIs this possible? I'm in Windows, Photoshop 7.0. I also have a pretty early version of Illustrator, not sure which one.

View 15 Replies View RelatedI am having trouble doing this in my current software, Serif Drawplus, PSE, Photoplus, (I have Gimp but haven't used it ever yet). And I am considering buying X6 for use in other projects. So, can x6 do this in either Photo Paint with a bitmap, or in X6 with a group of Vectors?
I want to wrap a bottle with a logo. The mesh warps aren't working for me in the above applications, and envelope warping will not work either. Transform-Warp is not present in PSE. I mention that because I see a tutorial for PS using that. How would Corel X6 Suite do this? I am considering buying the software once some questions I have about it are cleared up. I wish Corel would make the manual and tutorial videos public. I'd rather download the trial for actually using it rather than trying to see if some feature is present, or a workaround for a feature a competitor has.
I am also hoping to make in this project, some 10-20 different bottles with the logo on, of different sized bottles and different rotations of the bottles. Plan D is acquainting myself with Blender, but lets hope I don't have to go that far!
I am "vector tracing" a logo in PSP, and exporting it to Motionstudio 3D for an explosion effect. I am currently able to do this with no issue, but the explosion effect (specifically the size and shape of the particles) is based on connecting the nodes in a vector object. For example, if I have a capital L made up of 10 nodes, the subsequent explosion effect with separate the L into particles based on the 10 nodes. What I want to do is have the various nodes that comprise the traced letter connect with constituent nodes in the center/surface-area of the letter to form a "grid" (in PSP) so that the subsequent explosion (after export to Motionstudio) is comprised of more/smaller particles. Is there a way of not only having a vector object with "fill", but also having that "fill" made up of other vector data?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been using Illustrator since the late 80's but this request just now came up for the first time, twice in one day: the clients each want me to send them layered files (OK-no problem) wherein all the layers, even the raster layers, register as vector layers. Or at least all the layers, regardless of file-type (vector or raster) are contained within an unflattened Illustrator file. One of the clients specifically asked that the Type layer (No problem-all the type is on one layer) be "vector mapped", whatever that means, while all the other layers can be Photoshop layers, if necessary. So how do I hand them an open, unflattened Illustrator file containing both vector art and raster art? Can it be done in Acrobat, as a PDF? I'm working in AI and PS CS5, but I can and will upgrade if I have to.

I _think_ it was Macromedia FreeHand 8, and that I used a plug-in w/in that program, but I can't recall. Any way other than rendering the drawing as a half-toned bitmap and then tracing it? Or re-drawing the image on top of such a bitmap?
If I made a picture from photoshop let's say a jpeg pic then open it on illustrator then save it, will it be a vector image already?
How can I test if it is a vector image?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI needed to have a 7-foot retractable banner printed and discovered my San Diego print vendor had dragged my InDesign .pdf into Photoshop and rastered my vector text and vector logos at 125 ppi and was going to print out of Photoshop.
I talked with their sales and graphics people for two days and specifically asked them in five different ways if they printed through a RIP (yes), and if I would get vector sharpness on my printed text and logos (yes). And I specifically requested they print directly from my .pdf and that they not alter my file in any way.
the person printing my job and she told me she had dragged my .pdf into Photoshop and would be printing out of Photoshop. She connected me with her graphics supervisor and I am not sure he even understood the difference between vector and raster, or my point about vector sharpness on the print.
I had asked their graphics person what profile to use -- she said CMYK and she didn't know what a profile was -- I dodged that question by having her open her Photoshop Color Settings and reading her working CMYK profile.
I called two other San Diego banner printing shops after that and the conversations were about the same.
I have been asked to create a logo for a client of mine and I have been asked for it to be made in vectors format? I believe it has something to do with, if the picture needs to be stretched to a bigger size, it will not loose any quality.
Well this is what I am getting confused with, Photoshop already seems to stretch things fine, without loosing any image quality, I have not had a problem with that before?
I have created a shape with the pen tool in CS6, I have multiple shapes that I have built into what should be a single shape. Although when the path tool is not on I can see the single shape I can't seem to set a stroke to it which is an important part of the image design.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI was fortunate enough to get the CS6 just now, and I still way prefer working in PS than AI... for simple shapes and text, can PS CS6 save all vector info and export to PDF for the printer? If so, I couldnt find any "Preserve vector" setting in the PDF save window, so is it automatic?
And what is the way to produce shapes/effects in PS so the vector will be saved, can u not just make paths and fill with paint bucket, do u need to make masks?
Basically I would like to do all the work in PS and never touch AI for this type of simple project, but need vector PDF's.
I have two vector art images that need to be composited in a simple After Effects comp. One is a backround plate and the other is a vector of a person. The person slide in and the backround will go out of focus with text on top.
I did a mock up and the backround plate looks flat as it should. The backround plate is complicated but it does not any texture to it, all solid colors. I am looking for any tricks that can be done in Photoshop to give it a bit more dimension. I know their are alot of extrusion and 3D filters in Photoshop but I that experienced working with vector art.
Been searching tutorials but I probably am not searching the right things. I would like to give this backround plate some pop.
I have a PSD that I have simplified to one color (black on a transparent background), is there a way for me to convert this into a vector?

In fireworks, I am easily able to manipulate and edit vector shapes with many different methods.
One of these methods is to have two different vectors, one on top of the other so I can apply a 'union' to them for example, as well as, a 'punch', a 'cut out' and some other ones too.
I fail to see this function in photoshop, but I really do need this..
Hi, I have this huge problem where I can make everything look great in photoshop (as great as i can and that I want it to look, lol) but.....text always blurs and looks horrible.
I thought since photoshop 6.0 they added vector graphics/text to fix this problem...but...how do i type in Vector instead of raster?
And this is during working to that it looks bad. Not just after saving, so its not a quality issue.
Im tryin to make a logo for a web site into a vector graphic that i can use with the custom shape tool. I've read at the adobe web site how to do it but there is one catch. When you paste it it says to set it to paste on a new shape layer. I cant seem to make it create a shape layer, only a new one. Can somebody enlighten me?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a minor problem - besides of not knowing anything about Vector Drawing, I also mostly use Linux at home. I have a font which I want to make part of a logo, however this logo can only be installed on Windows.
So I tought of first converting the font into a graphical image (72dpi) and then import this in my Vector Drawing application (inkscape).
However will I have a good quality logo like this. That is will I be able to change the dpi of the logo and not loose quality?
Or the best solution is to always use the font directly in the Vector Drawing application?
Btw- I understand here most probably everyone use Adobe Illustrator and I be more then happy with answers aimed for this application.

I have since been informed by them that I need to my pixel graphics into curves, even the text. They suggested that CorelTrace would be able to trace my design with curves. Is there any way that this can be done in CS2? The design is quite simple, a few stripes and some text.
