View 2 RepliesI do illustrative site plans for an architecture firm. I frequently use the magic wand to create selections in pdf's created from a CAD system. I usually import them as a smart object so that they may be updated regularly as design changes are made. However, in CS4, I am finding it very difficult for the magic wand to make selections in between lines of a pdf. No matter what I set the tolerance at, it seems to select more than the area that I am trying to select. I recently installed all updates and it worked for one day and then returned to making incorrect selections.

I believe it is luminance but after testing I am now not so sure.
trying to learn and use selections... I have a image from which I want to extract only the complete faces of some people. it's a tough one since the background and the hair are difficult to distinguish for some people even when using the magic wand. What I am trying is (while using the magic wand tool) is that I click on part of the image and if feels that the selection is correct then i do a right click and then select "Add to selection"...
Question: Once I have done so a couple of times, can I somehow display/show the intersection (SUM) of all the areas that I had added as selection and then either copy/paste or do somethiing.
If I select a color using the Magic Wand Tool, how can I replace the selected color witht the foreground color?
View 2 Replies View Relatedwhy is it when making a selection with Magic wand I can not stroke it,I need to switch tools to get it done.
View 8 Replies View RelatedEither my lack of sleep has caused me to overlook something obvious or my magic wand has gone haywire. Basically, the wand behaves as if the tolerance is set much higher than the value I select. Even if I set it to 0, the wand selects colors that are radically different.
I am working with all channels (not just red for example), the file is a single layer, etc. I've worked with PS for years and I can't see what I'm doing wrong.
In the attached file I selected the white area just above the check mark. With my settings, it should select all the white around the check. Instead, it selects half the white and some of the check, as you will see.
When I have a backgound selected with the Magic Wand Tool or the Quick Selection Tool and I try to delete it, instead of getting the white and gray checkered background, it brings up a "Fill" splash screen, why? I'm just trying to make an image transparent so it can be moved from one image to another.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to select a small section of an image (say for example, an eye on a person's face), and use the magic wand only within the selection. I don't want it to go beyond the selection, no matter how high the tolerance.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIn this example I did the following
1. used the circle marquee and did a 8 point stroke.
2. Selected the circle with the magic marquee to get an active selection
3. Gradient tool
Doing the above results in jagged edges that alias badly once I fill the selection with the gradient. With a basic color the circle is perfeclty fine, only once I add the gradient the edges become jagged. How might I fix this?
I'm trying to cut out the outline of a guitar from a photo using the magic want tool.
The line never seems that sharp.
Always step shaped aliasing on close up.
Tried the feathering option but then it just seemed blurry.
How do you get the cleanest sharpest contour line possible.
Touch up by hand takes forever and is hard to get neat.
Does it matter how enlarged the photo is when you are working on it?
Recently I noticed that when I apply some operation on area selected with magic wand (for example desaturation or brightness modification) not only pixels from selections are modified. When modification has big strength I can see that pixels laying even 20 pixels away from selection border are slightly modified. From the other hand: I don't see this effect on normal selections. So I have two questions:
1) Is it any way to manipulate strength of this effect (modify maximum affected distance)?
2) Is it any way to use this effect with other kinds of selections?
How to make something like this logo: [URL]... (also attached below in case link d/n work)
I tried using the line selection tool to create a stroke path in the shape of the design I wanted, but I can't get it to emulate this brush (it always just fades to opaque instead of tapering to a point).
I have used the Magic Wand for a couple of years, taking out backgrounds etc to create transparent GIFs.Now when I use it, the edges of whatever I have cut out are always jagged.
I have anti-aliasing checked at the top, and haven't changed anything that I know of.It seems to get worse when the image is resized and made smaller also.
I'm trying to make a rainbow.
I'm using the line tool but when I drag to create a line the line appears but then when i click to create another line it disappears.
In PS i can Magic wand selection shape from one layer, drop to sub layer and copy that selected shape from that sub layer. How do I do this in illistrator, and moreover, from multiple layer at the same time.
For instance, in PS = Import an image of gold - select a text phrse with wand - drop to gold - copy paste = gold text.
I'm trying to write a lisp routine to create a two line MLEADER but i can only get one line of text. Creating the MLEADER manually from the command line i just have to hit enter after the first line of text to add a second line. How would i do this in a lisp routine?

I did find the DIMJOGLINE command and that will be great for the dimensions but what about the other stuff, do we have to do that with a block or draw the thing, if that's the case what are you doing to handle this?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm in the process of selecting the head and shoulders of a person and got about 2/3 rds of the way around which took me a long time when somehow the end of the line I was working shot across and made connection to the beginning point which ended my selection process. Maybe I clicked too fast or something but it happened and now I'm left with part of a head and shoulders selected.
I've tried working with the plus and minus to try eliminate the line that shot across but I'm not having any luck, maybe it can't be done.
When I try to add or subtract it won't let me intersect the original selection line, I mean I can use a place on the line to anchor my starting point butwhen i come back to the original selection line at some other point, it's not showing the the little circle indicator that tells me I've completed the selection.
When using the marquee tool, clicking and dragging would create and resize the selection marquee. Holding down the space bar, without releasing the mouse button, would then temporarily allow me to reposition the marquee, and releasing the space bar would allow me to go back to resizing the marquee.Well, I just had the opportunity to tutor somebody in Photoshop, and she had the newest version. I went to show her the above trick, and all that happened was the selection got frozen and its x and y values got displayed.

How can I keep my selection area on the background image or layer after doing a create new layer via copy?
I am trying to make a selection and an inverse of the selection and put each on a seperate layer to do adjustments seperatly without having to go back and reselect the desired area. It seems to disappear after the new layer is created.
Is there a better way to accomplish this, what am I missing?
How do I create a fixed size Selection, Shape or Path?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to create a selection out of the square marquee tool with rounded corners. The only way I know how to do this is to set the feather to 5px or 10px or whatever. But when I try to fill this selection with a certain color (with the paint or pencil tool) I get a gradient. That is, instead of a uniform color all throughout the selection, it's almost clear near the edges and slowly becomes opaque as you move closer to the center of the selection. I do I create a square selection with rounded edges so that filling it creates an evenly opaque color?

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I make a selection in a picture, the selection dotted line shows a coloured border, which is the colour of the second choice in the Materials palette. Especially if I make an addition to the selection, this coloured line runs right through the selected figure. If I copy the selection, undo the selection and then paste as a new layer, the coloured border, especially in added areas, remains visible.
how I can get rid of this strange artifact? I didn't use to have it, it emerged a few days ago.
Is there a way to keep the selection line to stay after you place the end point? Right now the default (and my guess the only way) just removes the selection line and dots the lines selected.
