I get artifacts when I lighten (dark specks) or darken (white specks) when I use the adjustment brush to adjust exposure on my photos. It would seem to be a big enough bug to get noticed and promptly fixed, unless I am doing something wrong.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI work in the 3d industry and mostly create images for print and web. My problems arises I have been rendering from Maya into linear .exr format as well as some 8bit files (.iff) for masks quick fixes etc. Im working in 16bit and in Adobe (198) color profile withing PS for my comps. I need too collapse the layers down so I can provide the client with Car and background seperate in a photoshop file. The problem is when I open the file I created on a PC the background gradient appears much darker when viewed on a Mac.
Â
(I also tested doing it on a mac and the same problem occurs in reverse).
Â
The window transparencies appear much brighter. Howerever the car interior remains relatively the same between mac and pc. Because I have probably been working with files with different gammas applied to them is there some way Photoshop saves this within the layers? I have had to just settle to get it right on mac assuming they will open it on a mac and be able to save a jpeg that will look the same on both pc and mac. This however does not seem to be a good workaround and have never encountered this problem before. I have tried just about every merging method, and have had plently of experience doing this, however this has got me completely stumped. i am aware of the gamma difference between mac 1.8 and PC 2.2.
I've been using Lightroom and PS CS3.
I've just updated to CS4 and now when I send a photo from LR to PS it always looks too light. I find to get LR and PS looking similar I have to apply an exposure adjustment mask with a gamma correct of 0.86 in PS?
I'm using;
Vista Ultimate 32bit
Photoshop CS4 v11.0.1
Lightroom v2.3
Camera Raw 5.3
Nvidia 9600GT (1GB memory)
My monitors are calibrated and profiled using GretagMacBeth Profile maker 5.05 and an Eye One Pro, the profiles have been applied as system profiles so Vista loads them correctly.
This issue has only come into being since installing CS4.
after applying gamma correction on an image , would that affect its looking / view ? I tried to apply gamma correction 0.45 and it gives me good results on windows OS . I am not sure that this is the right thing to do ?
How can I know that after applying image enhacement ( gamma correction , resample , etc ) would produce a better image quality ? is there any software /tool that I can know that the image after applying the enhancement is better than before ?
I had a header for my site saved as a png, and it ended up looking darker in IE8 as opposed to Firefox (where it was the correct color). I heard that this is because of the gamma chunk. Could anyone let me know how to save a png so that it looks the same on all browsers and computers?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI seem to have a colour problem with PSD files. I have tried messing around with the gamma settings for hours, colour profiles and everything else I could think of, but I cannot get rid of the problem.
As you can see the colour problem is only with PSD files. I have also taken a screenshot and compared the colour of the windows taskbar, and the PSD gives me a washed out, less bright look, yet upon export to JPG it looks fine...
The little program ADOBE GAMMA that appears in the Control Panel of Windows after the installation of Photoshop CS2 has now disappeared from CS3.
For whatever reason it has not been included I do not know, but then I find this little colour management to adjust the screen to match colours has been of great importance to people like me - 4 Colour Offset Output on printing ink. This is because the program that comes with the graphic cards do not favour cmyk colours but more on rgb.
Bring back the adobe gamma in the next upgrade so that I do not have to install both CS2 AND CS3 to utilize Adobe Gamma.
I'm using a PC with Vista.
The Photoshop installer installs Adobe Gamma control panel (Adobe Gamma.cpl) into the Windows/System folder (Windows Me and 98) or the Program Files/Common Files/Adobe/Calibration (Windows XP and 2000), and it installs the Adobe Gamma loader application (Adobe Gamma Loader.exe) into the Program Files/Common Files/Adobe/Calibration folder. In addition, it installs a shortcut to the Adobe Gamma Loader application in the Windows/Start Menu/Programs/Startup folder (Windows Me and 98) or the Documents and Settings/All Users/Start Menu/Programs/Setup (Windows XP and 2000). As a result, the Adobe Gamma loader application appears in the Start > Programs > Startup menu and starts automatically during Windows startup.
While loading Adobe Gamma.cpl during Windows startup, the Adobe Gamma Loader application applies settings in the Adobe Gamma.cpl file to the system and applies calibration settings you saved for your monitor at the system level.
How do I disable Adobe Gamma in the start file? It pops up every time I turn my computer on. But, I purchased a Spyder 3 Pro calibration device and the instructions tell me I should disable Adobe Gamma otherwise the calibration I perform is 'neutralized' each time I turn the computer on.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm doing an online course at lynda.com on Photoshop CS4, and in one part they ask you to get into Adobe Gamma to do color calibration. I can't find it . . . ?? If I go into the control panel, there's no folder for Adobe Gamma. My son suggested looking at C:Program FilesCommon FilesControl Panels, but when I get to Common Files, there's no folder in there called Control Panels.
I'm running Windows XP on an HP Pavilion Media Center computer.
I cannot find Adobe Gamma on my system. I have checked in the Control Panel and under the Help section of my PS6.0 program. Any suggestions?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm confused about gamma adjustment. I'm getting a book ready to be published by a print on demand company. It involves making a PDF using InDesign which contains photos which I've edited in Photoshop. The company has a list of specifications " to be sure that my PDF prints properly",and one of them says "The gamma of a grayscale image should be between 2.2 and 2.4." I don't know how to interpret this. If I change the gamma of a photo to 2.2 it obviously becomes much lighter, but then when it's saved the new lighter document has a gamma of 1.
Â
I know I'm not understanding this at all. I've looked all over trying to figure this out. Most references refer to gamma adjustments for monitors, and I get that. I also know that when things are printed they will come out darker because of dot gain.
I have just installed a Spyder 3 Pro on my PC and couldnt find any uninstall for Adobe Gamma. The PC is running XP Pro (32 bit SP3) and I have CS4 and CS2 installed.
To remove Adobe Gamma I took the following steps after I had installed the Spyder software but before calibrating:
1. Removed the shortcuts to Adobe Gamma and Adobe Gamma Loader from the start-up folder.
2. Removed Adobe Gamma Loader.exe and Adobe Gamma.cpl from the folder C:Program FilesCommon FilesAdobeCalibration.
There didnt appear to be any remove feature in the control panel, but the Gamma control panel now doesnt appear in the control panel and the PC reboots without any errors.
i have a samsung LCD monitor, and i'm using photoshop7.0 on it.
is it pointless to have Adobe Gamma loaded? since it does not really work for LCD anyway?
what would be the best way to calibrate my LCD to work best with photoshop?
I've moved desks and computers at work and recently re-installed Photoshop CS on my new computer (running Windows XP Professional). I went to run Adobe Gamma and am getting the following error message "To be able to run Adobe Gamma you must log on with Administrator priviledges." Our IT section can't figure out what that is or where to go fix it so I can run Adobe Gamma. I didn't have this problem when I installed the software on my old computer.Â

how to load Adobe Gamma at startup?
should Adobe Gamma be used with a LCD monitor?
It is not in the control panel on a clean CS3 install. Has Adobe stopped including Adobe Gamma in the CS3 installations?

Is anyone having problems with RGB and CMYK color setting in illustator and photoshop CS2
in my swatches panel my black comes up with html color ref #221E1F should be #000000
white fine #FFFFFF but all the other color are not. there is also a problem with gradients.
i have a new HP Pavilion laptop with Vista Home Premium.
the problem is that the screen contrast is very low.
there are no hardware controls to adjust this.
so the only solution i could think of is to "install" Adobe Gamma Loader.
i did this by copying the files from my WinXP machine and put it into the Common Files folder into my Vista laptop.
i also put a shortcut in the Startup folder.
now here is the strange part...
when i boot up the laptop, Adobe Gamma Loader loads up for about 10 seconds, then it unloads.
i have to manually click on the Gamma Loader shortcut in order for my screen to remain adjusted.
how can i get the Gamma Loader to stay loaded?
also, there is Adobe Gamma Loader isnt listed in the Control Panel, like it is in XP. though i suspect the reason for this is because i copy and pasted it to the Common Files, rather than installing it Photoshop or Illustrator. can someone confirm this for me?
Complaints about sluggish performance on many machines have been piling up.
Some attentive Adobe techies confirmed issues and promised to look into it.
Is there any news-worthy progress in development of a remedy or
a vage forecast of when to expect a first patch?
Photoshop CS4 was useless for me due to many problems that occured on my system (and as far as i can see, many other user's systems).
Meanwhile i installed the Patch to Version 11.0.1 and updated to new NVIDIA-driver Version 182.03.
I gave PS CS4 another try and realized, that some of the problems are gone. The OpenGL Features stay activated, rotating and smooth zooming are available and work fast and stable, graphic glitches and wrong menu-drawing are gone. That is most of the time...
Some problems remain:
- My long trusted wacom driver Version 493-3 (the only driver i had no problems with) does not grant me pressure-sensitivity in Photoshop CS4. It works well with CS3, but in CS4 theres no pressure at all. So switched to ne newest driver version. But even the newest Wacom-Driver does not work properly. If I close photoshop and reopen it, some pressure sensitivity of the brushes is gone. Sometimes ALL pressure sensitive functions are gone. Sometimes it helps reloading my brushes, sometimes this has no effect at all. Driver Version is 610-6 in combination with an Intuos3 Tablet.
- I have many cases where Photoshop just disappeared. It closed without warning or error-message.
- the OpenGL Features STILL deactivate out of nowhere. This happens mostly with layer-intensive documents and in combination with taskswitches. I only realise this when zooming becomes jumpy and the smoothness is suddenly gone. Then the rotate feature is greyed out. Strange thing is, all openGL features are still marked as active in the preferences. There's no warning or error message, the features simply vanished for this particular document. (It stays active for other open documents at the same time)
I am completely helpless here. For me it is AGAIN back to CS3. Working with Photoshop CS4 is really not possible with the above mentioned things happening all the time.
I use the most recent drivers available. My system is still fresh and nothing of this ever happened with Photoshop CS3.
Having discovered the problem in a more complex scenario, I've narrowed down to a simple set of jpg images placed sequentially in a video group, and exported as an h.264 video from Photoshop PS6. All is on Windows 7 Professional SP1, all software involved completely up-to-date.
Â
I first noticed the gamma shift using the 'High Quality' preset. It occurs with variations on Vimeo 29.97 and Youtube 29.97 presets. The gamma problem does not occur on HD 720p or 1080p 29.97 presets.
Â
When I view the resulting video through Quicktime, I see a gamma shift for a moment on the first image, making it look washed out. After another moment, the gamma goes back to normal. On other players such as Windows Media or VLC, no such shift is visible.
Â
Interestingly, the shift comes at 1 second when exporting to the Vimeo 29.97 preset, or 'High Quality', while at 3 seconds on Youtube 29.97. Similarly, the shift back occurs at 2 seconds, or 6 seconds for Youtube.
Â
What the gamma shift looks like sounds like the now age-old Apple Quicktime fault on h.264. -- except it occurs only for one or a few seconds, then reverts to proper gamma, instead of continuing..
Â
With the simple setup of single image (jpg) sequence, it occurs only on the first image. With a more complex scenario, some actual videos included, I've seen it occur on every jpg -- or on some -- in a sequence.
Â
This is very repeatable here - 100%.
I recently upgraded from Photoshop CS3 to CS6. The patch tool did not appear to work as well in CS4 or CS5 and CS6 appears just as bad.
Â
I've attached an image showing (from left to right) a patch using:
Â
CS3;
CS6 Normal;
CS6 Content Aware.
Â
CS3 is MUCH better.Â
I am having a problem using the patch tool in Photoshop CS5. I click on the Patch Tool and select the Source option from the upper tool bar. Then I circle a gray area in the background of my photo and, holding down the left mouse button, I drag the selection to a black area in the background and release the mouse button. Instead of turning the selected area black it just makes the area slightly darker than it was originally.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI select an area I want to repair, click source, then drag to the area I want to use to make the repair and release. It looks great in the preview, before I release. As soon as I release it disappears.
Â
For example, after using the automate tool to combine multiple images into a panorama with a transparent background there are a few blank areas. I select one of the blank areas with the patch tool, click source then drag to the area I want to use as the replacement and release. As soon as I release, it goes back to the transparent background. The transparent button is NOT selected.

This is a Windows Vista system, with NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT video, If I try to do updates to CS4 is sas it is using the latest driver. Which it lists as version 11.0.2.
