Suppose I have an image 2000 pixels wide by 1000 pixels high. Pixel (0,0) is at the top left as you view the image. Using the rectangular selection tool, how can I specify an exact area to select? Say, for example, I want to select the area defined by (0,0), (100,0), (100,100) & (0,100), how would I do this?
I'm using Photoshop CS6 on a Mac with OSX 10.8.3.
If I make a selection using any of the Selection Tools then I can drag the selection with the same tool except for the Rectanguar Marque Tool (RMT). If I make a selection using the RMT then try to drag it then all I get is another selection. Photoshop CS5 on Windows 8. How to revert to the default situation where I can drag the selection, or has my installation got corrupted somehow ?

A couple of strange things have/are happening:
-At one point, while I was in transform selection I there was added space around the marquee, which became the new edge, as opposed to the marquee itself.
-The marquee is in the shape of a rounded rectangle.
My CS3 version has suddenly developed round corners to rectangular marquee selections.
When I lay out the selected area using the rectangular marquee tool everything looks OK but, when I release the cursor the selected area develops round corners and for instance if I'm cropping something the area affected is incorrect.
Why do I have rounded corners on the rectangular marquee?

The easy method seemed: drag a guide to the right point and add the anchors at the intersection. But this is adding the anchors to the guide rather than the path "underneath" the guide? How can I place the anchor on the path?
Or is there a better way to achieve this?
I want to create a rectangular picture but I want quite pronounced curved corners
I now I can change all the corner pixels to a differant colour ot make them transparent but as I want to do this to lots of pics I am hoping there is an easier way.
I'm using CS4 on the Mac. A feature that I use quite a bit is expand selection.
When I do an expand selection even on a simple shape like a square the selection expands but the new selection has chamfered corners, or angled corners. I don't want this I just want clean 90 degree corners.
I've tried everything I can think of to change this, I've even returned to the factory defaults and it still does it.
For some simple selections you can just modify it manually but for more complex ones you can't.
Is there a way to do a pixel-exact (rectangular) selection when zoomed out?
e.g. I have an image that is 3000x2000, I have zoomed out to see the whole image and like to select a section that is 1280x1024 out of that image. When I use the mouse, I can't select it exactly (expected behavior as one pixel in my view is 2.3 pixel in reality) but even when I use the mouse combined with the arrow keys I get the same behavior (which I did not expect, I would have thought I could change the selection's size pixel by pixel).
Currently I'm solving the problem through selecting the next bigger size (e.g. 1283x1025), copy/paste it into a new image, then crop it to 1280x1024 and copy/paste it again to a new image where I save it. Is there a more efficient way of doing it?
This morning, my Selection Tool (the filled-in arrow) is acting like a Direct Selection Tool (the hollow arrow), but only when I click and drag on a group. It ends up select the anchors within the group rather than the whole group itself.
I've checked my preferences, quit and relaunched Illustrator a few times, and nothing seems to fix it. The problem briefly went away a few minutes ago, but came back when I quit and relaunched for good measure.
It's happening in Illustrator CS 5.1. I have CS6, and that version works fine, but I'm waiting on some plugins to be updated for it, so I'd like to use CS 5.1. I'm also running the latest Suitcase Fusion 4.

I would like to digitally publish some family scrapbooks. The plan would be to scan the page, then digitally adjust some of the photographs (old and faded, etc.) on each page. There are multiple photographs per page, and in most cases, only some of the photos on each page would need to be adjusted. Is there a way to import the whole-page scan into LightRoom and then adjust a rectangular portion. And for extra credit, in a few cases, photos overlap each other have a notch out of a corner (looks like the US state of Utah).

3. I want to copy&paste selection as the new picture, but I need to rotate manually selected image part before that to fit into new canvas exactly.

When I select an area with the rectangular marquee tool a window with the following text appears:
"Warning. No pixels are more than 50% selected, the selection edges will not be visible"
When I close the warning window the selection is no longer indicated.
When I use the rectangular marquee to crop a picture it now has rounded corners.
This has never happened before.
How do I get back to the square corners.
Using the selection tool i should be able tp reduce or shrink the size of the box or an image as a whole without changing the format. Iam not able to do that. I think i disabled something in my illustrator.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a task that I repeat all the time, where I have about 20 digital photos that are all taken of something the same size, at the same magnification, but not centered identically. I then need similarly centered, identical size and shape cropped images for all of the images. In Photoshop, a friend with the exact same task solves this by opening all of the images, making a rectangular selection of the appropriate size and shape by eye on the first image, and then dragging this rectangular selection from this first image into each other open images and hand-positioning in each image as he drags it in, so that all of the selections for cropping the images are the same shape and size, and can be individually positioned, rapidly. This exact solution is perfect for this task, and although it works great in Photoshop, selections can't be dragged intact from image to image in the same way in gimp 2.6.11 on ubuntu 11.04/gnome 2.32.1/linux 2.6.38-8 generic , so I am looking for a way to accomplish something similar.

On the desktop, everytime I draw a Rectangular Marquee, a very distracting black box with dimensions comes on at the lower right corner of the selection. This does not happen with CS6 on my laptop. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have CS2 on Windows XP. For some reason (probably operator error) I can no longer move the Rectangular Marquee Tool in a fixed size mode arond my picture. When I expand it to, for example, 8.5" x 11" it just sits there.
I used to be able to expand it, then move it about the photo until I got it where I wanted to do the crop.Does anyone have any ideas what has happened? Also I notice that the crosshairs now have a little bar in the lower right quadrant when I roll my cursor on the photo. Not sure if that is significant.
