AutoCAD Inventor :: Engraving Text Outline Into Solid With V Shaped Engraving Bit?
Jan 12, 2012Most engravings into solids are done in real life with a V shaped engraving bit along a text outline. Having come from a very dated Inventor 7, I was hoping my new Inventor Professional 2012 edition would be able to tackle this with ease. I thought the embossing of text would provide what was needed, but the emboss feature only seems to engrave the solid of the text and not an outline of text. With no luck there, I decided to import an AutoCAD text outline onto the surface of my model and try to sweep the tool shape over the path. I’ve been successful only with text that is composed of straight lines. Any text shape with an arc or line segments is frustrating me like crazy.
I’ve attached a file showing my successful engraving over some letters of the text. This is my desired output.When trying to sweep the tool path along the “R” in the model, an error comes up saying: The attempted operation resulted in the creation of a self-intersecting surface. Try with different inputs.
When trying to sweep the tool path along the “C” in the model, it actually displays a preview of the end result; however, a different error comes up saying: The attempted operation had problems trimming and discarding faces. Try with different inputs.

Jan 21, 2005I'm designing a poster for a play and loved the stuff I saw in the stone wall forum and I'd like to do something like an ancient engraved stone (egyptian era ) You know, chiseled into the stone. I'll post what I have but I need some advice. Is there a way to get the engraving to show up better? I used the emboss mask but I'm just not satisfied. Any ideas?

Mar 4, 2013I just upgraded from x4 to x5 and have had a couple issues with how the new install of x5 is working with my Laser Engraver (Epilog Legend 36EXT 120w)
1) When I used to run jobs at 300dpi the quality was fine (with some pixelation near the edges of the engraving) now when I engrave at 300 dpi I notice that the image is dithered and looks "polka dotted", Is there a way to fix this?
2) When I send over an image with a C:0 M:0 Y:0 K:0 white background, whereas it used to see this as "No not laser this" space, now it will laser the actual background as a percentage of black (which is not much, but it still does engrave and ruins the product as the box ends up being visible) I know that I can change the 0 0 0 0 white to a transparent and that will fix the issue, it's just that my jobs are all saved with the 0 0 0 0 background and if I forget to change to transparent, I end up ruining items. Is there a way I can define to Corel not to print white?
AutoCad :: Text Engraving In R14?
Oct 21, 2012I’m using Acad R14 and made the control panel for my cnc with various square / round openings for the pushbuttons and the letters describing the function of each button. The control panel is a piece of aluminum 8.5”x21”x1/8” and includes openings / letters for 16 buttons.
Everything turns out good but have problem engraving the letters because the tool takes more steps than necessary to engrave each letter; for example to do the letter “O” it does the top part and then it does the bottom part and normally this should have been one operation.
I wonder if there is a setting in R14 to optimize the text or perhaps a font that is better for engraving than others. Now I’m using either Arial or Verdana 1/4" high
In addition, when I export my file to DXF, the options are ASCII or Binary and I choose ASCII and the Decimal Places range is 0-16 and I choose 6.
AutoCAD Inventor :: Engraving On A Sphere
Apr 6, 2013I have a sphere which I'm able to project on a sketch of smaller circles which I'd like to engrave over it's surface, yet I want each of them to be perpendicular to the surface of the sphere in each point. Emboss doesn't do the trick, it just makes the engraving perpendicular to the plane.

May 20, 2013I am trying to cut paper on my laser engraver from a design on X3. It works but the engraver is cutting out the design. I want it to cut out the background and leave the design intact. I know this can be done and there is probably some very simple thing I am overlooking but I just cannot seem to wrap my brains around it.
For this to work how I want it, I have to change the X3 design to have a "negative" effect, as the engraver recognizes the black so background must be black and the actual design left white.
I tried to convert my design to a bitmap, but then it loses integrity and lines become pixelated. So other than this I am not sure how to get the background black.

Oct 2, 2012The subject basically says it all. I am trying to emboss two words onto a solid model. Unfortunately it keeps failing. I am copying this model off of U-Tube models "LED LAMP"
Try and use the emboss feature and engrave the words "LED LAMP" On the centre of the top of my solid model part. Top View reads vertically going up the way.
Please edit part 8. Then start the Emboss process. 1/64 = Depth. Flat White colour. Following the video on youtube they use engrave from face then reverse the direction the arrow points towards the model. Then OK. That's the way I am showed it and I can't get it to engrave.

Jan 18, 2012Use CorelDraw X for laser engraving? I did have X3 and just changed to X5 and need to cut Ovals in Flexi Brass and the file engraved fine, but did not vector cut the Red outline.

Mar 3, 2011I wish to use the Corel X5 program for all of my engraving and sign business. I've been using a program, sign lab, where I export graphics in the plotter format to my Xenetech system. I will continue to export into my Xenetech. I found that the X5, export PLT only allows an outline but no real fill capability. I need a better program and here I am. Is there a better file format within Corel X5 to fill a graphic or font to accomplish this task?

I started to get this strange error with my Photoshop when making a new document in Photoshop and got the following error: "cannot initiate Photoshop because Photoshop cannot create any more windows".
I thought the easiest thing to do would be to reinstall (Photoshop needs reinstalling extremely often unfortunately), but now when I try and open the program it just give an alert beep and closes back up. Even though I rarely use ImageReady, I opened that up to check and it does the same behavior.

May 28, 2004Can anyone tell me what color settings I need to set in photoshop in order to avoid this from happening? It only happens once in a while and I don't know what I've done to fix it or screw it up. What happens is that when I'm in photoshop and I do a "save for web" my document jumps to image ready and when viewing '2 up' for optimization purposes and comparison, I realize that the original view is actually duller in color and does not look like the original in photoshop. The blacks are definitely not as black.

Jun 7, 2004when I got my first Macintosh IICX and all of my MacPaint clip art. I don't want to get rid of the clip art because since I'm still using a black ink printer and not upgrading to a color one, the clip art looks nice in newsletters and the like.
Up until this time I had been using SuperPaint which had the New Superbits editing plug-in to refine the pictures so they had the smoother and cleaner lines instead of looking jagged. With my new computer and printer, I'm also getting Photoshop CS packaged with Adobe Creative Suite Premium, which I have never used before. Since I have not received my order yet, I was wondering if anyone could tell me whether Photoshop has the capability of improving the older MacPaint clip art like SuperPaint did with the New SuperBits editing plug-in. Over the past two days, I have been trying like crazy to back-up my pictures with SuperPaint and then re-saving them with Graphic Converter. It's been so incredibly slow that I thought I would go ahead and ask you, the experts, if Photoshop can also improve the quality of my older MacPaint clip art or if I should continue to back-up my clip art like I have been doing.

Jun 17, 2008I have just got back from the Elbow gig and pulled the images off the card. They load up in Bridge but don't have actual picture thumbnails. They are named correctly, ie: IMG_3483.CR2 but they won't open!? Error message says 'Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognise this type of file'
I could see them on the back of the camera.
mac users... i did a software update the other day and I noticed that there was an update for ACR. Could it have been something to do with that? And why can't I find ACR in my Applications?

Oct 30, 2012 of Adobe Photoshop v6.0.1 (quite old, I know, but it do all I want and on my old HW I did not plan/want to use any more recent version, because they are HUGE and with just a little preferences trick, I did not need to reinstall my PS - ever ), yet as Czech user, I need my software to type some special characters as well. These are looking like this:

Now the only problem is, that some of them PS just refuse to type. Seven small and seven caps are just wrong. See the line "for PS:"...
I battled the problem even by editing the fonts itsels, because that seems to work with Adobe Illustrator, yet this also cause the edited fonts to be useless in another programs. So I looked deeply and in the Adobe settings in directory Fonts / Reqrd are directory CMaps and perhaps editing the character map used will be better and usable solution? how to do it or even determine with file from the 96 files in the CMaps directory are right now used by Adobe Photoshop?

Mar 8, 2004when I try to save a tagra file with a alpha channel in photoshop 7 the box for the alpha channel is greyed out, with an warning sign next to it, and the line below stating "file must be saved as a copy with this selection" When I examine the saved file the alpha channel is not there!
Has anybody got any idea why?
My old version of photoshop 6, allows you to save alpha channels!

Mar 21, 2007the soft edge feature of the eraser and the brush no longer work. I can go into the pallet and choose a soft edge eraser or brush, but it comes up hard edge. When I try to use the marquee box with a feather to get a soft edge, I again get a hard edge. I've used this technique a lot, so I think I'm doing the method properly. Dec 29, 2008I am working on someone elses computer and the Software settings are different. The old owner does not use this computer anymore. The swatches are set and I would like it to function how it usually does, etc. I mean, even the transparent swatch on the tool bar is not there anymore, so when I use the pen path tool, I get these white and black fills which makes it difficult for me to see the path I am meant to be following.
How do I reset Photoshop so that I can customise it the way I want it? Reinstalling the softwares is not an option.
I would like to reset Illustrator, Indesign, Dreamweaver, etc.

These files are saved as TIFFs, and as part of my workflow, I have just about everything in Groups. She currently has Elements 10 on her system, but that absolutely does not permit access to the Groups and the components within. Because of her job duties, I cannot necessarily justify adding her to the CC account since she does not need PS, AI, ID, or any of the other applications as I do. However, I can easily justify upgrading her to Elements 12...provided it does what we need it to.
