I have a project that requires a watercolor illustration to merge with a colored (imaged) background, so I need the white of the illustration to drop out. This isn't a Magic Wand, Select Color Range, or any 'selection' issue like that. I need a sophisticated color-to-alpha plugin that will render the white (or any color, I suppose), to transparent. Needs to be Mac compatible... seen some for Windows, but can't use them.

To complicate matters further, there'll be more backgrounds to come, too, certain to be lighter in color (homage paid to Murphy's Law).
I've tried combinations of settings all over the map, but nothing gets even close. The jagged edge just won't go away.
How can I set transparency like when color is brighter it will be more transparent, eg. white is fully transparent, black is non-transparent, gray is 50% transparent, etc..
I would save png after that.
I also draw on paper, and now as I want to edit stuff on Photoshop CS2 I find that I am not able to easily and smoothly make the image transparent through a grayscale image of the image...

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm attempting to render a series of images in the cloud and my plan is to take these images into Photoshop so that I can apply a background from an image I possess.
To do this I need the background to be a plain white background, export as a TIFF or PNG, then add an alpha channel in Photoshop. The problem is that whatever settings I apply in Revit, the cloud rendering always gives me the standard grey / blue horizon background. I have changed the render settings using the render setup, through the view properties, through the graphic display, still no joy....
For quite some time I've been trying to find the best way to remove a white background from images. I've checked out the sticky thread on this forum and as my image isn't of great quality and because it features quite a lot of white that won't apply.
Recently I found this tutorial which is supposed to work great (as seen in the comments). However, I think that because of a GIMP update that won't apply anymore somehow. I was hoping you guys might know what was causing it.
Everything works well until I get to step 7, where I have to select to Alpha. There it selects just the outlines, but my selection includes inner parts of the image, not just the background. And then after I invert and delete, the white that remains still has transparent parts that show up on the upper layer. So, am I doing something wrong with the Alpha to Selection, is that tutorial updated or is there a better way to remove the background from ie. a logo with just one background colour which isn't of great quality.
I'm trying to make a texture for a model in a video game, and I want some of it to be transparent. This is done by editing a text file that tells the model to use the textures alpha channel. things in the alpha channel that are white are transparent and things that are black aren't.

I have used an alpha channel to create some quite impressive weathering/scratches on a scratch drawn metallic background. My issue is that this image has been created for use on the internet and I cannot for the life of me find a way to save the image in a web friendly format and retain the scratches. I have a series of numbered photoshop files. Each file contains one partially transparent layer (no mask), and when I open the files as an image sequence, the transparency looks good. However, when I export to FLV with Alpha enabled, my FLV doesn't seem to have an alpha channel.
I created alpha masks in "Channels" , when I click "Layers" tab I can see the effect
but when I try to save that image for web I see that mask was not applied.
