Photoshop :: Vector Art Forced To CMYK And 72 DPI In...

Dec 5, 2008

I'm aware that Photoshop is not the best program for working with vector files. Because of the kind of work I'm doing, I need to open vector files (mostly EPS) in PS throughout the day and work on them using specific filters that I have.

In all previous versions of PS, when I opened a vector file there were no problems. The files opened exactly as they were saved. Since I upgraded to CS4, PS has started forcing a resolution of 72 dpi and CMYK mode when I know for a fact the file was created at 300 dpi and in RGB mode. I know it seems minor, but when you're working on 100 + files per day, it really cuts into your workflow.

Illustrator :: Choosing Profiles For Forced RGB To CMYK Color Conversion?

Apr 25, 2013

When a mixed RGB/CMYK PDF is opened in Illustrator CS6, Illustrator forces a conversion to one color space or the other. See this screenshot: [URL]

I assume this is a limitation of Illustrator and there's no way to keep both color spaces. Under that assumption, Is it possible to choose the profiles used for the conversion from RGB to CMYK? Can Illustrator be made to use the RGB and CMYK profiles defined in its Color Settings to make this conversion?

AutoCad :: Forced Grid In DXF Format

Jan 8, 2014

I used a vectorising program (vectormagic) and I get a dxf format file. Now I am trying to edit it with Autocad (2011) mas it seems to exist a kind of grid with predefined dots and I can only start and finish a line in its intersections. I already tried the grid and ortho commands without success.

I am new with AutoCAD (I have plenty of experience with SolidWorks and Inventor). This is the link to the dwg file (saved by AutoCAD. Tomorrow I can upload the original dxf file) [URL] .......

Photoshop :: Joint Two Separate Vector Images Into One Vector Image

Jan 14, 2006

I am making myself a logo in photoshop. I have made all the letters that will be used, but they are all seperate entities as most of you who have used vectors know. I would like to interconnect the letters, as well as an angel I have made to go above the letters. My question is, how can I join two seperate vector images into one vector image. For example, joining a letter E with a letter D. I wonder if theres a way to do this without having to delete part of each image and then re-draw, which is a pain. Sorry if this isn't really clear, but its hard to explain.

CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X6 :: Wrapping Image / Vector Or Vector Group Around Cylinder?

Jul 29, 2012

I am having trouble doing this in my current software, Serif Drawplus, PSE, Photoplus, (I have Gimp but haven't used it ever yet).  And I am considering buying X6 for use in other projects.  So, can x6 do this in either Photo Paint with a bitmap, or in X6 with a group of Vectors?

I want to wrap a bottle with a logo.  The mesh warps aren't working for me in the above applications, and envelope warping will not work either.  Transform-Warp is not present in PSE.  I mention that because I see a tutorial for PS using that.  How would Corel X6 Suite do this?  I am considering buying the software once some questions I have about it are cleared up.  I wish Corel would make the manual and tutorial videos public.  I'd rather download the trial for actually using it rather than trying to see if some feature is present, or a workaround for a feature a competitor has.

I am also hoping to make in this project, some 10-20 different bottles with the logo on, of different sized bottles and different rotations of the bottles.  Plan D is acquainting myself with Blender, but lets hope I don't have to go that far!

Paint Shop Pro :: Joining Vector Nodes In Vector Layer?

Dec 24, 2011

I am "vector tracing" a logo in PSP, and exporting it to Motionstudio 3D for an explosion effect. I am currently able to do this with no issue, but the explosion effect (specifically the size and shape of the particles) is based on connecting the nodes in a vector object. For example, if I have a capital L made up of 10 nodes, the subsequent explosion effect with separate the L into particles based on the 10 nodes. What I want to do is have the various nodes that comprise the traced letter connect with constituent nodes in the center/surface-area of the letter to form a "grid" (in PSP) so that the subsequent explosion (after export to Motionstudio) is comprised of more/smaller particles. Is there a way of not only having a vector object with "fill", but also having that "fill" made up of other vector data?

Illustrator :: Layered Vector AI File With Raster (Photoshop) Layers Included As Vector Layers?

Apr 20, 2013

I've been using Illustrator since the late 80's but this request just now came up for the first time, twice in one day: the clients each want me to send them layered files (OK-no problem) wherein all the layers, even the raster layers, register as vector layers. Or at least all the layers, regardless of file-type (vector or raster) are contained within an unflattened Illustrator file. One of the clients specifically asked that the Type layer (No problem-all the type is on one layer) be  "vector mapped", whatever that means, while all the other layers can be Photoshop layers, if necessary.  So how do I hand them an open, unflattened Illustrator file containing both vector art and raster art? Can it be done in Acrobat, as a PDF? I'm working in AI and PS CS5, but I can and will upgrade if I have to.

Photoshop :: CMYK And RGB Between CS5 And AI?

Feb 18, 2012

I am using AI and PS CS5.I have an eps in AI that is set for RGB. The colors are how I want them.

When I open the same eps in PS, PS thinks the file is CMYK. Whether I open the file as CMYK and convert to RGB or open at RGB, the colors shift. If I leave the file as CMYK, the colors are shifted.

I can confirm that when I convert the file in AI from RGB to CMYK, I can see the color shift. If I leave the file as RGB in AI, it looks how I want.cannot get the file to show in PS as the same color as what I see in AI.I have confirmed that both AI and PS have color settings set to NA GP2.

Basically, the file with AI in RGB mode looks how I want. The file with AI in CMYK mode looks different.In PS, both RGB and CMYK color mode are the same as CMYK in AI. am not sure why PS does not show the RGB colors like AI does.PS CS5 and AI CS5 are synched:{URL]...

Photoshop :: CMYK

Feb 10, 2005

I've been creating book covers in paint shop pro 8. I create the covers from images that I get from my customers, and then send them off to a printer to be printed. On a couple of occasions, the printer people have came back and told me my cover is created in "rich" black. I think they mean the CMYK value is 100% for all 4 colors. They won't accept that. My question is, in photoshop, is there a way once I receive an image to check and see what the CMYK value of that image is, and if so, fix potential problems as described above? It doesn't appear I can in paint shop pro. I have been looking for a good reason to purchase photoshop anyway since I'm sure its a much better graphics program.

Photoshop :: W/ CMYK

Sep 3, 2007

I have a flattened .psd file with significant areas of contaminated black that needs to be changed to key color black. The problem is that the color mode was changed from RGB to CMYK at the last minute after the file was flattened and saved, so now I'm stuck with large black areas that are not PANTONE process black, but are 90% K with varying levels of CM and Y. I need to replace the large impure black swaths of my file with true key color black without compromising the quality of the file to ensure the project succeeds.

Photoshop :: RGB/CMYK

Aug 28, 2006

I have a folder of images, some in RGB, some in CMYK. I want them all to be in RGB so I'm running a batch action on them with a conditional mode change. So, if a file is in CMYK, it is changed to RGB.

But if a file is already in RGB, I get this annoying alert, telling me "Mode of the document is the same as the target mode. No conversion performed."

Well, of course. I don't expect it to be converted. That's why I chose CONDITIONAL mode change! I don't want to have to hold PS's hand through this batch but it's making me sit through the conversion of hundreds of files simply so I can say okay that it's doing what I asked it to do.

I've checked the "suppress color profile warnings" box and told it to log errors to a file (i.e not to stop) but I'm still getting the alert.

Photoshop :: RGB Vs CMYK

Apr 28, 2009

This is probably a hoary old subject but I've found surprisingly little help via Google, etc. I just finished creating the background for a large map, with over a dozen RGB layers, most with masks, a number of adjustment layers and some alpha channels. I've heard that for CMYK output it's best to work in RGB and convert to CMYK at the last minute, and colour correct in CMYK.  That made sense to me for a number of intuitive reasons, but now I'm writing up the metadata and I want to give factual reasons to do this, not just my assumptions.

Obviously file size is one.  It took 5 minutes to open or save this RGB file, CMYK could have taken 33% longer. Can anyone tell me how the math is done in PhotoShop?  I'm wondering about the blending of all those layers with different blending modes, transparency, adjustment layers etc.  In my map each pixel must have gone through a dozen or more math operations.    Will RGB, with it's 255 levels, be more accurate than CMYK with its 100 levels, or is the math all done in double precision and rounded at the end, or is the math all done in LAB or some other colour space?

Also, I recall encountering some PhotoShop operations that were greyed out in CMYK.  I tried to discover them today on a test file but drew a blank.  Can anyone think of any? Any other pros and cons to RGB over CMYK? Andy PS: This forum software is unbelievable.  Hard to believe Adobe would have something so clunky. Like they're actively discouraging the use of their forums.

Photoshop :: Printing In RGB Vs CMYK

Dec 17, 2012

There is a photo that I've downloaded from the internet that I'm printing and using for a class project. It was supposed to be Black & White, but when I first printed it, it looked sepia.

My teacher suggested I add a Black and White adjustment layer, but since the photo was originally in Gray scale, I needed to make it RGB to do that. Once I did, the Black & White adjustment layer made the photo Black & White.

Since I want to ultimately use the photo printed, I was thinking it would make sense to make it CMYK. When I try to make that change, Photoshop says it will discard the Black & White adjustment layer. Does that mean it will go back to looking like sepia when I print it? Does it even make a difference if I change the mode to CMYK for printing?

Also, is it better to wait and add the Black and White adjustment layer only after I've made all other adjustments as the last step before printing. Or better to do it right away so I know what I'm working with when it's Black & White?

Finally, is it best to wait and add type only once all the adjustments have been made to the photo? Does type lose any resolution when it gets merged into other layers?
