I recently thought it would be nice to generate some 'pencil sketch' filtered images for a project, but when I looked at an image (.psd) to manipulate, the option was grayed out. CS5 has been a great tool for me and I usually upgrade every other version release, so CS7 would be my next upgrade.
View 2 RepliesJust in the past few days, I've been having problems adding artistic filters to my work. I'm on a MacBook Pro. Just opening the filter gallery, or even trying one of the artistic or other filter types directly from the list, causes the dreaded rainbow wheel of death. I then need to force quit PS, and start over.
I can understand this happening with fonts or styles or brushes... add-ons that can often get corrupted, or be bad files to begin with. But the system filters?
The Artistic Filters Colored Pencil, Cutout, and Dry Brush dialogs do not open when selected. The other Artistic filters all work normally. Also, once any working Artistic filter dialog is opened, I can select the Colored Pencil, Cutout, or Dry Brush effect from the thumbnails and they work.
I'm using Photoshop CS3 on a PC with Windows XP and SP3
I have restarted Photoshop and have also reset Preferences, but the problem remains.

View 2 Replies View RelatedFor some reason recently the Artistic/Brush strokes/sketch etc Filters menu is missing from the filters menu (not greyed out, but completely missing) in CS2, but not in Image ready. I've searched around alot but I can only find fixes for the "greyed out filters in Lab/16bit/CMYK" etc, but as I'm using RGB and 8bit this doesn't solve my problem. I have also attempted a reinstall but to no avail.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am applying Artistic filters to an image in Photoshop. Some of the filters are turning the image into a black and white image, for example, the "torn edges filter." And it then does not seem possible to change that layer into a colored layer. Other filters, such as "glass" leave the image its original color. Is it possible to use the torn edges filter without turning the image black and white?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've noticed that a number of my third-party filters (Alien Skin Exposure, SilverEfex Pro and Topaz Simplify) are not available in CS4 since I upgraded to Mountain Lion. I can still run them in Lightroom.
I have reinstalled Exposure and did so with Mountain Lion's gatekeeper disabled. This made no difference so I thun completed uninstalled this plugin and reinstalled again from scratch and it made no difference.
The plugins that aren't available all appear to be installed in the Applications folder.Basically each of the plugins is greyed-out in the menu bar and if I try to run them from a palette (SilverEfex) I get an error message “The command SilverEfex Pro 2 is not available”
I want to use artistic filters to get painting-like effects on some photos, but when I'm working with large image files at 300 lpi all of the brush strokes are way too small. How can I increase the size of the brushes in the artistic filters? I've tried downsizing the photos, applying the effects, then upressing; but I get pixelization.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have hardly ever used filters for any of my work as I have preferred using Xara's native tools and effects to get what I wanted. But recently, I was inspired by some animation work which used backgrounds painted in Photoshop. They used a lot of textures which enhanced the look of the animation and so I thought I'd try to simulate it within Xara.
It works very well and I can export it as a PSD retaining the layers and Alpha channel. But here come my questions.
1. How can I remove the two Alien Skin demo plugins as I already have the full versions.
2. Why don't the native Photoshop plugins--Artistic, Sketch, etc.--seem to work?
In CS3 you could change something to make all filters act like smart filters, even though they won't. I found this worked very well, now I have CS4 and would like to do the same but can't remember what to do to make it work.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am working on a dormitory project and need to provide a required light and ventilation schedule. I have figured out how to create a schedule for each level, but I want to isolate only the Dormitories and the Kitchenette (weed out all the other rooms such as corridor, elevator, storage, toilets, showers, stairs, trash, electrical, etc.).
I tried using seclusion filters, but there are too many items to exclude and cannot fit them all into the 4 filter categories. I am trying to just get the rooms that begin with 'D' and 'K'. I tried providing the variable 'Begins With' for D and in the next line 'Begins With' K, but then nothing shows up.
Is there a way to provide information to the filter that would allow it to show only rooms beginning with D AND K? I cannot seem to get it to work. I have been playing around with separation values within one filter category (i.e. 'Begins With' D, K) but apparently you cannot add multiple variables within one of the filter items.
I've purchased full extended master collection and had my 3D option work just fine.
I've recently updated all softwares and now that I go access my 3D it won't let me.
Does anybody know how to produce this sort of blurred painted effect on the images of the players from this link??

View 2 Replies View Related I previously had a few CS5 apps installed. They were volume license versions of some sort available through the school I was working at. (I don't know the details of the installation — the school network guys did it for me.) In these apps, the Update command was also unavailable ... I sort of assumed it was something odd with the install (maybe the update manager was not included) so I downloaded and installed updates manually from Adobe.com.
I have since left the school and dumped the apps. I just picked up a personal copy of Photoshop CS6. I find that the "Updates" command is still unavailable, but this is a regular install so I am crying foul.
I found this page about disabling the update manager for CS5 and CS6. I checked and sure enough I had a copy of AdobeUpdaterAdminPrefs.dat with updates suppressed, as mentioned in the article. Must be left over from my previous CS5 install, as I sure have never touched that file myself. However, upon removing it, my "Updates" command is still not available.
Is there some other way that updates can be disabled that I have not found yet? Is there a way to launch the update manager outside of the application?
Suddenly I get the Message: Command "Batch" is currently unavailable. I have CS6 Creative Cloud single-app membership.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just downloaded a trial version of Photoshop CS6 and noticed that I had an extremely reduced choice of file extensions at the moment I wanted to save my work. In fact, I wanted to save it in .tga, but the option disappeared from the list. The PSD file I want to save only has 4 layers, 3 of which use an alpha channel; the 4th being a plain black background.
And the weirdest thing is that when I create a new, empty file, I can save it as a .tga image, along with a lot of other extensions that disappeared for the other image. Like, I can't even save my first pic in BMP. I only can use PNG, JPG, CIN, IFF, TIFF, and 2 or 3 others. Oh and by the way, it's the x64 version. But it does the same thing with the x32 one. I tried already.
i must have changed somethin in the settings, and
most of the keyboard commands wont work now.
( bad commands; cntrl+N, cntrl+T, etc., all that require "cntrl" )
I cannot figure this out and am having trouble looking up an answer:
Sometimes when I have a file open in CS3, dropdown options are unavailable. for instance, I have a tiff open and the "texture" filter option (amongst others) is unavailable to click.
I'm working with an exported jpeg from SketchUp and no matter what layer I'm on, nor what mode I'm in, or what tool I choose...Free Transform and Transform seem to be forever greyed out.

WHy is it unavilable and how can I make it available?
I'm working in CS3. I have created a multi-layered image. Now, I want to go back to one layer and begin editing in vanishing point. But, when I'm in that layer, vanishing point is greyed out in the filters drop down. What's my problem and how do I get on the right track?

On my version I have Filter > but then there is no option for Artistic. Is this located elsewhere or is the trial version not a complete version? I noticed 2 versions were downloaded onto my PC - Photoshop CC and Photoshop CC (64bit). Is this part of the issue?
I'm trying to apply a custom gradient to my text in Photoshop CS5.5. I have watched tutorials and on all the ones I have seen there is an option below the gradient to add more points, colours etc to the gradients. However it is not available on my version.
Is there a view I need to activate? How can I apply a gradient to my text? have tried adjustment layer
I did this now just PS will not work. Under the window on performance it says "Graphics Hardware Acceleration unavailable upgrade video driver & possible video card". The only thing I can find in the hardware for video is Intel (R) G41 Express Chipset (Intel GMA 4500). I upgraded the driver and I still get a fuzzy screen with artifact everywhere. This is on a desktop computer with an LED monitor.
