Photoshop :: PS Screen Brightness Is Stuck On Max

Jun 14, 2008

When i was working in PS CS3, i pressed the 'b' shortcut for the brush tool. Instead of giving me the brush tool, it made the screen slightly brighter. Thinking it was strange, i pressed it alot and the screen is now around 50% brighter/blown out. Which is not good when preparing images for print!

When photoshop is open, all of my windows, whether it's firefox, or the desk top, are bright as well. As soon as i close PS, it goes away. I've reinstalled Photoshop with no luck, and the brightness factor isn't effecting any of my other CS3 programs.

Photoshop :: Correct Color Brightness Settings

May 9, 2008

as some of you who work in TV know, video uses color bars to set up your source material in order to insure that levels in video will be output properly.

please see the above PDF. i created the BG in photoshop, then imported it into indesign for a half-page magazine ad.

this PDF is a high-quality output of PDF. i printed it on my $99 ink jet printer just to see how it looks on paper and it doesn't look too bad.

but is there some way i can test the print output without having to get a printed proof from the print company, that will insure that the ad's colors and levels are set properly?

i guess what i mean is, is there some way that a color bar system similar to TV can be used to compare with the PDF?

Photoshop :: Color/brightness When Opening A New Image

Jan 1, 2006

I have Photoshop 7 installed and it's been working fine.

However all of a sudden i started having problems with the way PS opens images.

Say I take a picture with a camera, review it in Irfanview, and the decide to play with it in PS. The problem is, that the image look different in PS, than it looks in reality. I simply drag and drop the image from the folder into photoshop, and when it opens up, it's a lot brighter than the original, almost washed out.
Sample attached.

Does anyone know what the problem could be? It wasn't doing it before, it started suddenly, without any modifications to PS or the system (that I know of). I've tried reinstalling PS but no help.

Illustrator :: Possible To Change Brightness Or Shading Inside One Global Color

Jan 8, 2014

A few years ago I learned in school the usefullness of global color. I used it today and it was very usefull to quickly change the color of a lot of different objects at the same time.

HOWEVER; I remember they also tought me that it was also possible to change the brightness or shading or something inside one global color.

for example lets say I picked a red as a global color, and I have 10 objects all in that red. Then it should be possible to let 5 of those objects have a lighter version of that red color.

Then afterwards when I change my global color to green, all the objects change to green, and those 5 objects now have a lighter green color.

Am i remembering this correctly, and if so; how do I apply this? Because I cannot figure it out...

GIMP :: Adjusting Color / Brightness And Contrast Of Multiple Layers Of Animation

Oct 4, 2013

What I'd like to do is adjust the color and brightness/contrast of many layers of an animation. Now, for a still image with many layers I know you can generally add a partially transparent layer over the whole thing, however, since it's an animated .gif I have to do the same thing to each individual layer. I could probably go through and do it by hand and just get it over with. But, I'm curious if there's a feature for this, or is there a plugin that can repeat actions for multiple layers?

Photoshop :: Invisible Color (color Screen)

Jul 10, 2007

How could I , for example, make anything blue transparent, and anything partially blue - partially transparent, and anything not blue - not transparent? (without resorting to the wand tool)

So basically, if you imagine a selection in black and white, where white is the selection, and black is not, how can I do something similar so blue is treated as the selection (depending on how 'blue' it is).

I mean by color screen (since I can't remember the correct term),

Photoshop :: Image Color On Screen

Sep 6, 2013

For no apparent reason, some of the images on my computer screen are coming up in odd, bright colors similar to a negative, but not complete. It happens to images I open on independent web sites and images stored on my computer.

When I open some images in Photoshop5, it asks if I want to discard the embedded profile. If I answer yes, the image displays fine. If I answer No, the image colors are distorted. This problem persists on my laptop screen and on the monitor attached to laptop.

Also, I can only save the file as .psd, not .jpg as required. How to convert my file to 72 dpi jpg with 256 colors.

Photoshop :: How To Get Correct Color Screen Display

Nov 24, 2013

I photograph a bright red car in raw mode on a digital slr (Canon 20D) set to Adobe rgb 1998  and view it in Breeze Browser and it looks just as I remember it. I open it into Pshop CS5 extended (which is set to Adobe rgb1998, Europe ISO Coated Fogra27, (as I am UK and this is what a calibration company set our works proofer to)  gray gamma 2.2 dot gain 20% and its become a little desaturated.

Sampling it and comparing screens and colours with Breeze Browser its definitely less red, a bit more orange red instead. I need to up saturation to return the red, both in RAW converter and also after image opened if not done so beforehand in RAW converter. Colors just look muted.

What tests can I carry out to find out what is going on ?

Perhaps create a rgb 255 0 0 image in a way not influenced by photoshop and photo the monitor, then open this in photoshop and sample it. However that would be influenced by the exposure of the camera. Maybe I need to create a Kodak grey card type image and establish correct exposure for the monitor brightness first. so what would that be as rgb ?

I know though that Pshop is displaying duller. Once upon a time we had Adobe gamma and one would go through the calibration wizard to set up Photoshop having already set up the monitor.

What do we have to do after installing CS5 extended or CS4 to ensure Pshops display is correct ?

I have Adobe gamma in the control panel, Is this something we still have to do in CS5, I wonder if its there because I still have Pshop 7 installed which used that wizard.

XP pro is my OS.

Photoshop :: Screen Modes Cause Photo Color Display...

Mar 10, 2009

While using Photoshop CS4 Extended version 11.0.1, whenever I change Screen Modes, it causes the color of all photos to display improperly. The pictures become very dull and gray. Even the whitest whites (255/255/255) appear to be a dull gray, as if a black layer set to 30% opacity is placed in front of the picture. The color still displays properly in the thumbnails of the Layers Panel.

Every picture I have open is affected in this way. Closing the pictures and reopening them does not help. Any new pictures I open are also affected. Changing back to the original screen mode does not fix the problem. The only thing that fixes the problem is closing Photoshop altogether, and then restarting it.

It doesnt matter how I change Screen Modes, whether I change it from the Screen Menu, the Applications Bar, or cycle through the modes using the F key. Even hitting the Tab key to hide the panels causes this to happen. Being a long-time Photoshop user, I have long been in the habit of cycling through screen modes frequently, so suggesting I not cycle through Screen Modes isnt an option because itll take months to break me of the habit.

Photoshop :: Gradient For Brightness

Oct 12, 2005

How do I use the gradient tool to create a blend from dark to light. I don't mean in terms of different shades of color, I mean in terms of the "brightness" feature you get under Image -> adjustments -> brightness/contrast. Let me explain: I've drawing an areal view of a build with a partially domed roof. I have a pattern that I filled it with, and now I want to add light and shading. I'd like to be able to do this by combining the effects of a gradient and the "brightness" feature mentioned above. The gradient tool alone will overwrite the pattern already filling the roof with a certain hue, and the brightness feature alone will only adjust it to one uniform shade of brightness throughout. How do I combine the desired aspects of each tool? Does my question make sense?
