I'm trying to create a transparent layer in Photoshop. I can't even find the option to make it. Whenever I make a new layer, it just comes out white. I'm using Photoshop CS3 extended.

What I want to do is make it seem as though an image is super-imposed on another. More specifically I'm trying to put someone's face on a guitar in a picture and had two layers:
1) The guitar
2) The persons face
if it's possible to make the persons face transparent enough(If at all) so it would appear on the guitar?
I want to make my layer volumetric transparent.
Like:
When you choose white&black and drag with gradient tool, it has a soft fade to black. I want to make it like:
Center of image (%100 Transparent)
Soft Fade
Borders of image (%100 Opaque)
I have missed this completely, but is there any plan in PDN v4.0 to make a 'solo layer' option? I have no problem with just un-ticking all the other layers, but it can get a little tedious when working with many layers .

Then if I put a filter>nature>flame on the transparent layer, it's not as good looking, as if I put the flame directly on the black background. Why is that? Annoys me a lot, for I can't make good pictures because of this, since I can't use layers to make it more "deep looking"

As you might see in layer panel. there is a blending option applying on text. and when i try to applying new blending option i-e drop shadow or inner shadow to layer shape 5. it will mess with also to text layer.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI cannot stand it when I make a new layer in Illustrator and the color hint becomes yellow. This usually happens on the third new layer into every project. I can go in and manually change it from yellow to the ten plus other colors, but I just want yellow completely out of the list. It's awful to look at, and I think every other color is easier.

View 2 Replies View RelatedToday i opened a psd file which 200 layers. Paint.net is very slow then (as all layers are flatten, pdn is missing hierarchical layers), but that is another problem.
I wanted to hide some background layers and "copy merged" a selection.
It took me 10mn to find all the backgrounds layers without this tool.
In photoshop the tool exist as a property of the "move selection" tool. Ie: you must first select the move selection tool, then select "layer" in the properties toolbar.
Any way to get that for v4 ? Will v4 be on github so we can clone and make patches ?
I've just upgraded from Photoshop7 to CS2 and have noticed that the 'link' option have been removed from the 'Layer Window' (the little box which was next to the 'eye' that you could check to select certain layers and then manipulate those particular layers together like free transform, flatten etc.)
I normally use this feature alot and cannot find another way of doing it, is it possible to reinstate this feature or does anyone know a way of still doing this within CS2?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have two maps of same area (different years) and I want to match them up as one map. I can load them both as layers and make the older map transparent so that I can see through to newer map, but older map is larger than the newer map (in the background). I can move the transparent map but I cannot make just the transparent map smaller to fit over the other map. I will also need to rotate the map slightly. When I try to resize it changes both maps. I have tried the transform and the move tool. So how can I make one layer smaller and rotate it it leaving the other layer intact?

View 2 Replies View RelatedThere's a new feature where you can opt to drag a layer mask to the trash and NOT be prompted to "apply layer mask?". This also has the "do not show again" option -which I clicked by accident. So the default is now to apply layer mask when I drag a layer mask to the trash. I can't think of any way to restore the more traditional function, without restoring all other prefs.

So what I would like is a way to restore the more classic default where dragging a layer mask to trash give me the OPTION to apply or discard.
as an alternative to using the magic wand to remove a color to transparency (which leaves fine detail, say in a line drawing, in a very sorry state) i saw someone use the multiply function in layer options to remove all white from a greyscale image leaving black lines over transparency. neat,

Here is a photo that I am trying to duplicate the techinque from. I have figured out how to tint my original photos, but I can't figure out how to layer them so you can see both, without either of them becoming faded. I'm running CS6. It seems like it should be so simple.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am trying to create sort of a rounded box, except with one corner only. I am quite new to photoshop and am running into trouble creating the top left corner, (the only corner I want to show). I have created the background set as transparent, then used the rounded rectangle to create a round corner, then created another layer and another rounded rectangle over the first one, so now I have a thin line, with a rounded corner.
The problem is, the middle section is still white, so I have to manually use the eraser tool to erase that layer to get the transparent background to show through instead of the white background.
I am sure there is a better way to do this. How can I set an entire layer to be transparent ?
I've been looking at some tutorials lately and some of them say to create a "transparent layer." Is this a special setting for the layer or does this mean that I can just create a layer and set the opacity down a little bit?

Just so you know, I have a square psd in a file with numerous other layers and I want to make it round and put a transparent circle in the center to make a DVD label. That's what I'm after and I can't believe I forgot how to do this.
I do a lot of UI design and webdesign in Photoshop and as most people I like to apply a subtle noise here and there. I usually do it this way:
First I decide whether I want black or white noise. Secondly I create a new layer and fill it with opposite color. Then I choose Add Noise and apply 100% uniform monochromatic noise. In the end I choose between Multiply and Screen mode according to the noise I want and play around with opacity.

Now I am coding a website in HTML5 and CSS3, which allows me to recreate all elements without unnecessary images and workarounds, but I am not able to create appropriate texture to emulate the noise. For example black noise: I wanted to create the noise as I usually would, just skipping the Multiply blending mode part and rather trying to substitute white color with transparent (and accordingly for shades), meaning I will get document where some pixels would be 100% black, some would be 0% black, and the rest between. In CSS I would then repeat this over some element and change opacity accordingly.
I have been creating some images for e-mail marketing and would like to spice it up with some colored backgrounds. How do I make my images transparent without using polygon tool.
View 3 Replies View RelatedThere are times I have to use the 32bit version of CS6, because the plugin being used can't be used in the 64bit version. But the last two days, this error started up out of the blue. This is the error popup I get, verbatim "Could Not Complete the Browse In Bridge command because Photoshop was unable to find the Javascript plug-in"

This error doesn't happen with the 64Bit version, nor does it happen in CS5 64 or 32bit, and not in CC 32bit (downloaded the trial to test to see if it was a 32bit compatbility problem) and none of these cough up this error.

I haven't copied or deleted any parts of Adobe or any files in any of the program directories.It happens in Photosho I try to Browse in Bridge from Photoshop, not if Bridge is already open.

And yes, I know Extension Manager CS6 no longer supports Bridge, but I wasn't using it. This error just started yesterday. Been using the 32bit version of CS6 for certain plugins for over a year. Again, haven't deleted or added anything.
i have a png image whit a blue backgroundif i select the background and press CANC photoshop ask me how i want to fill it, colour BG colour etc...why i can't just delete the BG and make it transparent?and another thing, when you have the 2 colour selection (on the left side) the white and the black square, is there a way to make the bottom square transparent? (i suppose is the grey square with a red line in it)
