Photoshop :: Lightness Channel Sharpening & Printing In Lab Mode
Sep 29, 2005
Do you ever sharpen Lightness channel in lab mode way? Do you normally work in that color space? If not is it worth while to convert it? Last: at that point isn't it worth while printing in Lab mode instead of converting back?

I have used PSE 5 happily and greatly liked the auto sharpen feature. I have been forced to upgrade to PSE 11 due to Windows 8 incompatibility with 5.
I am appalled to find that the sharpen feature, including auto, does not work in Quick or Guided modes. The small previews in Quick mode show the correct sharpening effect but clicking on them or using the slider does not transfer to the main image. I either have to go into full unsharp mask, which I hate for quick fixes, or use the 'adjust sharpness' option under 'filter' in Quick or Guided Mode, which increases sharpness by an unspecified amount on each click.

I was editing phots when I suddenly realized that sharpening tool, neither the adjustment brush for sharpening or ordinary sharpening, would be shown in Library mode or when photos were exported. When I see the picture in Develop mode, they seem fine and I can adjust the sharpness as usual. So something goes wrong between Develop and Library mode.
Â
I have Lightroom 4.4. The ISO level in the pictures are not high at all, so that is not the problem, as I have read some explanaitions of. When I see the picture in 1:1 in both modes, they look the same after sharpening. But if I zoom more, I can definately see big differences.

I have photoshop cs6, and I was just wondering how to save a selection in channel mode.
Â
So for example (below), If i wanted to only copy the part of this picture that has white and the plant in the picture how would i do this? I've tried colour range but it didn't work so I am very stuck.

I'm trying to extract the channel information from a .psd file in binary mode. I'm able to extract the number of channels and their names, but not their types (I mean if it's a spot color channel or a mask). The documentation I've found is from 1997 and some things are not the same with the newest versions.

I'm working in the multi-channel format, which as you may know, does not support layers.
Does anyone have any tips on experimenting with the layout, without the use of layers?
At the moment, I've been working out the layout in another (layer-supporting) colour mode, and then recreating that layout in the multi-channl mode.
Surely there is a better way of testing different layouts, within the multi-channel mode itself? I'm finding it very inflexible at the moment.

I have another question about GREY images.
Example: CTRL+click on grey channel theoreticly (by my theory) make selection from white depending on its value. So cuting out must leave transparent greyscale image. But it don't (okey, it do, but changes black value):
The same selection inverted and filled with 100%K gives correct result: Is my "theory" about CTRL+click selection wrong? Becouse for my point of view, both ways should give same result.

I'm working with the Color Picker and I select a green color on the left side square and I now want to pick other colors with the same level of lightness/darkeness and saturation for other shapes. Do I just leave the circle in the same position on the left side square and move the slider on the right side to a blue or red to get colors that work well together?
Â
If so, by doing this, how are these colors described? Hues with the same lightness and saturation levels?

I am a screen printer and I print my separations from Photoshop. I routinely work with multi channel files or RGB files with additional spot color channels. I have created actions to place my registration marks, re-size images, etc to get ready to print but I manually have to create the text labels for each screen if they are missing from the original artwork.
The files I work with have channels named as "Base White, Red, Green, 284 Blue" etc indicating the ink color. What i would like to be able to do is click an action that would copy the text from the channel name and insert it into a separate or each/all channels near the top of the file so that when I print each positive it has a corresponding label for ink color.
I am not sure if this is even possible, and I am limited on my knowledge when it comes to actions and have pretty much got lucky in the past getting them to do what I want without unnecessary steps.
On my registration target action it creates a new channel with each individual reg mark then combines them into one separate channel in which I just copy the contents and select all the ink channels and fill with black to make them appear, i'm happy with the steps it takes as it isn't too much trouble and if this could do the same with labels I would be happy with that.

My printer told me to add 5% C 5% M and 5%Y to my 100%k channels as without it I can see the black comes out a little/touch fury on things like small thin text.
Â
Is this the same on all other colors too? Eg. say 100% Cyan color, should I add 5% M, Y and K?

In my CorelDraw X6 64bit (v16.3.0.1114) the Hue/Saturation/Lightness adjustment effect is not working on vector fills, but its fine on bitmaps in CorelDraw X6 and Photo Paint X6 as well.
It's not effective even after trying F8 reset.
Is there any solution to get its functionality back for vector fills also?

I am pretty new to Photoshop but learning fast. This is my first post so if it should have been in Beginner's section please let me know. My question is, is there real value in the Sharpener Pro or Photokit Sharpener plugins over using the CS2 unsharp. I am currently converting RAW files to LAB and sharpening the image on the L channel then returning the image to sRGB.

My last step in processing is sharpening. After the application the photo does not look like it was sharpened. If I use my zoom button up one level than the photo is sharp. When I run slideshow in Bridge this lack of sharpening also appears here.Â

I use the lab colour system for sharpening my images, Ive done it loads of times with no probs. Tonight though; when I select lab colour from the menu my image goes black! I still get the four channels - Lab, Lightness, a and b but the lab channel is black instead of the usual full colour image, anyone had this happen to them? I've tried all the usual reboot and reset preferences things but no change.

I have this great photo of me and my boyfriend, I've already cropped and changed the color levels (its a bit washed out now, but it was WAY too dark and red earlier)
seanissocute.jpg - Image - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
the photo is a bit blurry, but the sharpen filters do NOTHING. And when I try to sharpen only certain sections it gets too grainy.

I normally use Unsharp Mask, Amount: 100 / Radius: .5 / Threshold: 0 -- followed by Fade with Luminosity Mode. Recently I've started experimenting with the Hi Pass Filter. There seems to be many different tutorials on sharpening, each one's method slightly different. I'd be interested in other user's favorite methods and why.
