Photoshop :: Kelby Shows CS6 Converting To Smart Object Before Using Liquify?
Dec 17, 2012
In Kelby's "Hidden Gems" of CS6, he converts the image to a smart object using the filter menu "convert for smart objects" before he uses the Liquify filter, thus adding a Liquify mask and the ability to go back and edit Liqify. When I open a Raw file and convert to smart object, it greys out the Liquify filter.
Liquify is only available before adding the smart filter. What's wrong with this? I'm on a Mac 10.8.2
when I convert an image to a smart object liquify becomes greyed out (along with some other filters) Im using the subscription version of photoshop CS6 so the software is up to date.
Im working on a quad core mac pro with a ATI Radeon HD 5770 graphics card.
Here's the situation: I've liquified a smart object but I did all the liquifying at the wrong size - the smart object is not at 100% size (my fault for not opening the smart and dragging it back out at 100%). I need to retain the liquifying (and any warping) exactly as it is, and size up the smart object to 100%. Is there any way to do this accurately? It doesn't matter if it's a big/long workaround, as long as it doesn't involve me redoing the liquify, which will never get me the exact same shape.
I am using an image for a contact icon on a business card, but the print quality of the image is bad. Â Now will it work if I convert the image to a smart object and print the image like that? (The original image is a much larger png file that i convert to a smart object then resize it to icon size)
I"m using photoshop cs5 and the liquify filter dosen't show any effect until after I've clicked ok. I've checked, and unchecked "show backdrop" and the opacity is set to 100%.
Well, that`s the problem. I recently changed my video card and liquify started working a different way. The video card I have now is ATI RADEON HD 5850 DDR5, 1gb. And the computer I have is: Â QuadCore Intel Core i7 920, 2800 MHz (21 x 133) Motherboard: DX58SO (1 PCI, 1 PCI-E x4, 2 PCI-E x16, 4 DDR3 DIMM, Audio, Gigabit LAN, IEEE-1394) RAM: 6 GB DDR3-1333 DDR3 SDRAM Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 5800 Series (1024 MB) Hard Drive: 1TB western digital, 4 partitions, 73gb free space in total and 13gb free on C Drive. Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit. Photoshop CS6. Â This are the things that happened after installing the new Video Card: Â - I used to work with the PUSH LEFT tool on Brush Pressure 1. Now, to achieve the same effect (the same kind of pressure), I have to use a higher number, like 6 o 7.
- When liquifying the image at more than 100%, the image gets jagged. I can't do any precise work like this, because I'm not seeing the image correctly, the pixels are shifted, the lines jagged. If I go back to 100% the image looks normal again. Â I already tried on the Preference panel to change the options of the video card but the problem persists.
Liquify as a Smart Filter is definitively a long waited feature but I found an issue with it. I made smart object from a layer, applied Liquify, next I change the document ratio with Crop tool...You see, completely different pixels are liquified now. Dissapointing I've reported the issue already.
I updated my PS to 13.03. I saw an Adobe video saying now Liquify Tool can have a smart filter so I want to give it a try. I couldn't get my Smart Filter working for Liquify Tool. Â I converted my RGB image to Smart Filter under Filter menu. I then tried to choose Liquify Tool but this option is disabled. Is my version 13.03 still not up-to-dated.
I'm having an issue which is repeated on various machines running PS CC on bother Mavericks and Mountain Lion.  - I have multiple documents which have a smart Liquify within each...  - I make an adjustment curve on one, and need to drag it to the other open documents - as I do this the mesh data is read again and liquify re applied - but usually applies it incorrectly - this occurs irrelevant of image size, whether the document has image outside the crop area, I've tried selecting canvas before liquifying and before applying curve...  I can solve this by rasterising the smart object on the recepient file - but this isn't ideal for the smart object work flow.
I have subscribed to CC and smart filter support for blur and liquify are not working. I have first deactivated and reactivated PS CS6 extended and then tried uninstalling and reinstalling from my CC account. Neither method worked.
1. Is there a way for masking each smart filter separately on a single smart object other than nesting one smart object into the another? 2. Is there a way for removing the previously created smart object?
I mean ... let's say I have a smart object containing four layers. Can I remove smart object from these layers?
I'm running photoshop cs3. I created two different smart objects. Within each of those smart objects, I want to include another smart object. However, when I update the embedded smart object, only the partent SO is updated, the other SO seems to have a different child. here is the setup visually: canvas -> SO1 -> SO3canvas -> SO2 -> SO3 so when I update SO3 from within SO1, only SO1 is updated - SO2 stays the same.
Ps CS6 OSX 10.6.8  Problem: Transform applied to Smart Object fails to transform an attached Smart Filters Mask.  I mean a Transform, including Free Transform, as found in the Edit menu. A simple move by the Move Tool is OK.  A workaround until this bug is squashed is to encapsulate the Smart Object + Smart Filters + Filter Mask inside another Smart Object and transform that. However, that will not be a satisfactory solution in some cases. If a filter has size parameter(s), e.g. Gaussian Blur radius, a scaling or warping/distorting transform applied after the filter will obviously differ from the filter applied after the transform.  In any case, the workaround is inconvenient to subsequent editing and experimenting with filters and masks.
I render 3d object from raster and smart object (extrusion) Each time i do the edge where the extrusion meets the front inflation material is slightly distorted. Should be a smooth line.
i noticed importing an image file from adobe illustrator into photoshop through copy and paste. but i dont have illustrator on my pc. is there a way to turn a layer or an image into a smart object without using the bridge feature they have now in CS2?
in cs2, i use smart object lot to replace image i mean i have to make collection of gallery of let's say mp3 albums so i have to put albums covers in my designs but exactly as i wanted in size {no matter whatever size/resolution the source (album cover) are} so smart objects always be the easiest way cos i firstly draw rectangulers in my custum size, and i covert each rectangulers to smart objects and replace every smart objects to place those albums covers. it's easiest way and since cs3 is launched, when i try to replace image of smart objects my replaced image(album cover) wont be as equal as my custum rectanguler size. this is my prob. when i place the images either they are placed bigger size than the size of smart object or smaller than smart object . can is there any process to make as shame size as smart object while placing images to smart object??? in cs2 it's possible but cs3 cs4 can't do such smart object or i'm a missing any new technique to do that? ya we can resize each placed covers to our custom size but it takes hell long time . i need shortcut way. wel in cs2 i been doin things like this using smart object which takes only 2 min to put images in my custom sized rectangular
I am trying to open a RAW photo in Photoshop CS5 as a Smart Object. I have the photo selected in Bridge. When I go to execute File>Place in Bridge CS5 the menu entry indicates there should be a menu displayed. However, clicking on Place does not bring up a menu.  In Photoshop there is open a blank file to receive the photo. Why do I not receive a menu?
I'm having aliasing issue with my smart objects in CS6 I never had before. I've searched all over PS and these forums to try and figure out how to get rid of the jaggies, with no luck. Below is a screenshot example of a SO with the aliasing (I'm trying to reconstruct a dresser top).
I have a smart object, and, If I apply Control "J" Â Â Or Drag It to the New Layer Icon, It will Duplicate the Layer. And If I Go to Layer-Smart Objects- New Object Via Copy, It dose the same thing. What Is the Different between Control J, or Go to Layer- Smart Objects- New Smart Object Via Copy.
Often after making vectro pictures in illustrator i use exporting to Photoshop like a SO. But i can't realize, why after exporting some elements like a blur or transparent mask is losing?
I working on the Photoshop with Smart Object with link to Illustrator. How can i transform perspective for Smart Object in Photoshop? There are accessible to me only Scale Rotate and Skew, others is gray out.
I was playing around with some images that I changed into Smart Object, and I noticed when you shrink the Images to a very small size, and later Transform It back to a bigger size, the quality dose not change,,Even when I saved them and opened them later on. But It dose not work with saving the Smart Object into JPG.
Is there a way to get Smart Objects to work on a different disc besides your Startup on a Mac? I'd like to set up a stand-alone SSD to handle all Smart Object operations. Currently, I'm getting the "Start-up disc is almost full" warning a little too often. It even crashed PS one time. I know you can change the Scratch Disc very easily, but I don't see any way to change how Smart Objects are handled.
I have a 'base' file A, with two (different) smart objects B and C. Now I want B and C to both contain a third smart object D, and I can't get that to work.
I can place the same file as a smart object in B and C, but it becomes two different smart objects, which are seperately editable. I would like to be able to edit smart object D and the changes to be visible in both B and C and in turn in A. Â Is this at all possible? Btw working in photoshop CS5
I was told to double click the layers window and a new editable window would pop up...but only the FX window pops up. I've also tried the "edit Content" choice but that erases the smart object..
I need a smart object mask, I converted the layer to a smart object, using the mask panel to add a mask, I'm not getting a smart object mask instead a regular layer mask. I searched the adobe documentation.
I have two tabs open: the first one the "parent file" and the second one the "smart object" from a layer of the "parent file". I accidentally "unsmart" the object on the "parent file" and close both tabs... Â Question: Is there a way to recover a closed smart object in photoshop? In photoshop directory?
