Photoshop :: Importing Vector Art Into Paths

Jan 10, 2005

This has been bugging me for a while, and have not seen anything to help me out, but is it possible to import vector art (aka ai files) into the path layer? I know you can export the path into an ai file, and you can raster an ai file when you open it, but would like to be able to import vector art as a working path in photoshop...

Illustrator :: Merge 2 Paths Surrounding Hand Drawn Imported Vector?

Sep 17, 2013

I've created a hand drawn vector in Adobe Ideas and imported it into Illustrator CC. I've used a basic example below to test this method, but I want to be creating more complex hand drawn vectors in the near future. You can see the same line in the 3 images below. The third image shows a close up of the line where it's surrounded by 2 paths. Any way that I can merge the 2 paths in the third image into 1 path?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Importing And Constraining Vector Drawing

Apr 10, 2013

I have a vector drawing of a logo, currently in adobe illustrator format. I'd like to create a 2D sketch in Autodesk Inventor and then insert this drawing into the sketch as a shape that can only be placed and scaled.

The way I'd expect this to work is essentially that I'd get a rectangle X enclosing vector object Y, and that I'd then be able to create a fully constrained Inventor sketch by simply constraining the corners of this rectangle X. Is it possible to do something along those lines, and if so what is the best practice for it?

What I tried, which failed, was this:

1. Converted the AI file to a .DWG file

2. Used the "Insert ACAD" command to place the file in Inventor with the Constrain End Points and Apply geometric constraints boxes checked (other boxes were unchecked)

3. Waited for a surprisingly long time for this operation to complete, maybe 30s on a 16GB 2.6GHz quad machine

The result of this operation is that I now see my imported geometry, BUT all vectors are treated as individual shapes and I have 2637 dimensions needed.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Number Of Nodes When Importing Vector File

May 29, 2012

What I am trying to do is importing a CorelDraw file into Inventor and extruding a few features.  The point is to mimic a silkscreen file on metal work.  My work process has been as such: create the file in CorelDraw and change all lines/shapes to curves.  Save the complete CorelDraw as a dwg.  Open the dwg in Inventor and copy and paste the sketch into a new part in Inventor.  This process seems to work for simple parts.  As soon as there is text and more complicated features there is alot of points which slows my computer down and makes it impossible to do anything. Any way to auto-reduce points in a sketch or have a better way of importing vector files into Inventor? I have tried importing the text as text instead of curves but it does not transfer correctly.

Illustrator :: How To Convert Vector Drawing Into Non-clipping Paths Drawing

May 5, 2013

I want to take two 3D views from (autodesk) Revit Architecture 2012 to Illustrator CS5 and then make use of the live paint bucket tool*.  I've printed the two 3D views into pdf files and imported them in Illustrator**. When I select the whole image in Illustrator and then click with the Live Paint Bucket tool on the drawing to modify the drawing so I can color the surfaces, Illustrator gives me the following error:

"The selection contains objects that cannot be converted. Live Paint groups can only contain paths and compound paths. Clipping paths are not allowed."

Exporting images (jpg, png and tiff) from Revit results in the same error. Is there a way to easily convert my vector drawing into a non-clipping paths drawing? Also I'm not sure if the problem should be found in either Revit or Illustrator. What's also strange is that I'm using a tutorial provided by my university, in which there are no issues with clipping paths or anything.

* This in order to make an conceptual image of my building, which I've modeled in Revit. I want to add basic colors to surfaces in Illustrator and then take the image to Photoshop to add shadow, materials, sky etc.

** They only consist of lines, using the 'hidden line' visual style in my views in Revit, in case you know a bit of Revit.

Photoshop :: Why Do Paths Snap To Pixel Grid Although (snap Vector Tools To Pixel Grid) Is Off

Aug 8, 2012

When I drag around vector points of paths they are not constrained to the pixel grid, when the option "Snap Vector Tools and Transform to Pixel Grid" is off. This is the behavior I expect.BUT: When I drag whole paths, they snap to the pixel grid, no matter what. I even have snapping completely disabled.

This is particularly annoying when eg. creating a path for a zipper. I first make a path for the inside of the jacket or whatever, then I make one notch for the zipper and copy it over and over again for all the notches. It's very troubling when these elements snap to the pixel grid, because it's very unprecise then.

Photoshop :: Joint Two Separate Vector Images Into One Vector Image

Jan 14, 2006

I am making myself a logo in photoshop. I have made all the letters that will be used, but they are all seperate entities as most of you who have used vectors know. I would like to interconnect the letters, as well as an angel I have made to go above the letters. My question is, how can I join two seperate vector images into one vector image. For example, joining a letter E with a letter D. I wonder if theres a way to do this without having to delete part of each image and then re-draw, which is a pain. Sorry if this isn't really clear, but its hard to explain.

CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X6 :: Wrapping Image / Vector Or Vector Group Around Cylinder?

Jul 29, 2012

I am having trouble doing this in my current software, Serif Drawplus, PSE, Photoplus, (I have Gimp but haven't used it ever yet).  And I am considering buying X6 for use in other projects.  So, can x6 do this in either Photo Paint with a bitmap, or in X6 with a group of Vectors?

I want to wrap a bottle with a logo.  The mesh warps aren't working for me in the above applications, and envelope warping will not work either.  Transform-Warp is not present in PSE.  I mention that because I see a tutorial for PS using that.  How would Corel X6 Suite do this?  I am considering buying the software once some questions I have about it are cleared up.  I wish Corel would make the manual and tutorial videos public.  I'd rather download the trial for actually using it rather than trying to see if some feature is present, or a workaround for a feature a competitor has.

I am also hoping to make in this project, some 10-20 different bottles with the logo on, of different sized bottles and different rotations of the bottles.  Plan D is acquainting myself with Blender, but lets hope I don't have to go that far!

Paint Shop Pro :: Joining Vector Nodes In Vector Layer?

Dec 24, 2011

I am "vector tracing" a logo in PSP, and exporting it to Motionstudio 3D for an explosion effect. I am currently able to do this with no issue, but the explosion effect (specifically the size and shape of the particles) is based on connecting the nodes in a vector object. For example, if I have a capital L made up of 10 nodes, the subsequent explosion effect with separate the L into particles based on the 10 nodes. What I want to do is have the various nodes that comprise the traced letter connect with constituent nodes in the center/surface-area of the letter to form a "grid" (in PSP) so that the subsequent explosion (after export to Motionstudio) is comprised of more/smaller particles. Is there a way of not only having a vector object with "fill", but also having that "fill" made up of other vector data?

Illustrator :: Layered Vector AI File With Raster (Photoshop) Layers Included As Vector Layers?

Apr 20, 2013

I've been using Illustrator since the late 80's but this request just now came up for the first time, twice in one day: the clients each want me to send them layered files (OK-no problem) wherein all the layers, even the raster layers, register as vector layers. Or at least all the layers, regardless of file-type (vector or raster) are contained within an unflattened Illustrator file. One of the clients specifically asked that the Type layer (No problem-all the type is on one layer) be  "vector mapped", whatever that means, while all the other layers can be Photoshop layers, if necessary.  So how do I hand them an open, unflattened Illustrator file containing both vector art and raster art? Can it be done in Acrobat, as a PDF? I'm working in AI and PS CS5, but I can and will upgrade if I have to.

Since upgrading to Photoshop CS, if I try to make a selection from a complex path, only the outer perimeter of the path selects. Any interior "holes" are ignored. I'm not sure if this is a bug or just something new that I've missed. I've been working with photoshop paths for as long as they've existed, but this has me utterly baffled.
