Photoshop :: How To Design A Map

Mar 9, 2006

on designing a street map showing the location of a clients facility. I thought about using something like Google maps, and masking the part of it I need, but I'm not sure about the legality of doing that. I'm also having a difficult time making the edges look nice and smoothe.

Photoshop :: Have PS CS3. How Do I Add Design...

Oct 31, 2008

I am already running Photoshop CS3. I recently bought the design standard package. I would like to install it on the same workstation. I was wondering, Since my current CS3 is alread registered do I load Design Standard CS3 and just not choose Photoshop CS3 at the beginning of the Design Standard install process? Will I be able to use my Design Standard serial number to register the product and have it not effect my existing registered version of Photoshop CS3?

I wanted to create the pinstripe look in the background of Adobe Lightroom.

How do I get that look?

Am looking also for something that will help me design and implement patterns, such as checks with out having to copy and paste. The easier to use the better as I do not know Photoshop CS that well.

Photoshop :: Red Eye Design -Resizing -

Oct 5, 2001

When I resize an image to a smaller size line and so on dont stay as sharp as they did from the original size....is there a way to prevent this?

Resizing up or down requires a remap of the pixels so there is almost always some interpolation and therefore softening.

But when resizing down you can improve the quality by picking you scale percentage carefully. If you scale to fifty percent, for instance, the interpolation can toss every other

pixel rather than interpreting inbetween them. I have had some improved results (I think)
by using this method. In theory scaling down 25 percent tosses every forth pixel... 75 percent, 3 of out of four. So you might try scaling to on of these first and then doing another scale from there. It may seem counterintuative to do two scale and get a better result but I had a job a few years back that required holding the sharpness of a grid when scaled down. Back then I tested this and it seems to work. But it has been too long and so I wouldn't bet the farm on this one.

The other option is to set the interpolation method to Nearest Neighbor. This method doesn't fade between pixels, it just replicates or tosses the existing ones. It will keep things like lines sharp.

Photoshop :: Table-Less Design?

Mar 13, 2004

I am trying to determine how to build a site that breaks out of the typical "tabled" layout. I've heard that CSS is good for layout, but not sure the tabless effect I am looking for requires CSS, or just good background design in Photoshop.

My experience is more with HTML sites, incorporating FLASH (made with SWiSH) elements, and PHP for database. I code everything by hand, no use of apps such as <HACK!> Frontpage.

Photoshop :: Why Are Pdfs From In Design So Bad?

May 5, 2009

My designer has created some pdf portfolios from In Design (which I don't own and have never used) . They are quite blurry and off color. I have taken the same images and run them in PHotoshop and Bridge 4 and the pdfs produced by PS and Bridge looks 10 times shaper and clearer.

This gets complex becuase they are all formatted quite complexly for In Design, and it will take too much time to re-formatt them for Photoshop or Bridge. But she has no idea why they are not coming out sharp and nice with In Design.

It's not compression.

She has been outputting with no compression from In Design and they still look subpar.

Photoshop :: Design Previews

Mar 23, 2006

designing an image at 300 PPI and need to scale it down some how, so it can be viewed by the client.

Images designed at 300 PPI are often too large to fit on screen and therefore, the client can not view the overall design.

I usually change the image's resolution to 100 or 72 PPI and save the .psd file as a .jpg and then email them a copy. But with this current method, the artwork seems to come out a little fuzzy and distorted; so I then have to explain to the client, that the actual design does not appear as it is displayed in the preview.

Photoshop :: Which LCD Screen For Design?

Mar 31, 2008

Now that my 22" CRT screen is slowly dying on me, it is time to find a replacement within my max 800 EURO budget. CRT are unfortunately barely available anymore and those few come at premium prices. So a LCD screen...

As a professional multimedia designer I value IQ and decent color reproduction/depth, and I would use the screen for (web)design, photo editing, illustration, some animation and occasionaly design for print, apart from playing sometimes dvds, webbrowsing and very rarely a game.

b Question #1:
I haven't decided yet if I should go for one 24" screen or go for a dual screen setup of 2x 21/22" (or perhaps 22" and 19", since the secondary screen is mainly used for Adobe panels).

What is your experience and opinion about this?

b Question #2:
Now I know that for the best color reproduction I should opt for a 24" S-IPS panel. And would I live in the USA I would have likely chosen the much praised NEC2490WUX.
However, I live in Europe and there this NEC 2490 is not for sale.

Even worse, at 24" size there are almost no S-IPS screens at all on the market and certainly not within my 800 EURO budget.

"So why not focuss on finding a good 22" S-IPS screen", I hear you cry... well, they don't exist either. Most 22" panels are TN, an occasional one VA. I could find some 20" S-IPS screens, but at huge cost (around 600 EUR). So that doesn't seem to be a good choice.

Alas, I have to focuss on finding the best M/PVA screen 'for (web)design, photo editing, illustration, some animation and occasionaly design for print, apart from playing sometimes dvds, webbrowsing and very rarely a game', and preferably one at a good price/quality ratio. And therefore dealing with issues as gamma and colorshift which are apparantly inherent to this type of panel.

So my question to you is... do you have experience with a M/PVA LCD screen that you would advice me (or not ofcourse). I have been shortlisting the Eizo S2431 (based on a PRAD.de review), the NEC2470WVN... but both are fairly expensive screens (though within budget) and I cannot really judge if either one of these VA screens is worth the extra money and useful for my needs.

I have Photoshop 6, which I play around with a lot. Can I use this to design the calendar? or is there another software which you all feel would be better suited? (I have an old version of pagemaker, but I'm not as familiar with it. I also have MS Publisher, but I thought photoshop would create a nicer looking calendar end result?). I'd like to get the calendars printed on glossy paper, etc etc.
