Photoshop :: How To Remove Grey From Vintage Graphics
Mar 3, 2011
I have loads of vintage graphics but many of them have a dirty looking background...the white or cream colored background looks greyed or has a browned look. I would like to know if there is any way to remove this discoloration and get the background back to a normal color.
The picture below is an example of how the backgbround color has become discolored. How to get rid of that ugly background color? I have tried using the paint bucket but often that tends to also fill in areas you don't want to lose.

when I bought PSE 8 for Mac some years ago I found a function/preference to remove the grey background of PSE, so I always can see the desktop behind my opened images.
Now I bought PSE 10 and can´t remember the name and place of this preference. I don´t want the grey background and want to switch between PSE and the desktop just by clicking anywhere on the desktop.

If I select a "New" document in CS5 I find that I am only able to paint or fill in in grey scale. This is new. In the Color options panel the grey scale slider is ticked and all other options are greyed out.
How do I remove the tick by the side of the grey scale slider and make the other options available for selection as normal. I note that if I open a previously opened document all options are available it just seems to be new blank documents.

I'm trying to remove the blitz shadow from head and body on a white/grey background, with the Lasso tool. The adjustments with Brightness/Contrast in the chosen area works like a charm, however I always get a nasty pixeled or whitelined boarder going constantly around the edited area; no matter if it boarders to a black area (shoulder) or a gray one (wall behind person).
I've tried to edit the primary/secondary color, with no luck. Any way to make this boarder "blend in" to the new brightness area - or to just remove it? The edited area is somewhat identical to the old background, so there is no natural reason to why it should be a constant boarder.
Or is it a better (and easy!) way to remove blitz shadow from a black and white picture?

as a user of pse 6 I 'm used to work with darkgrey background in the organizer.
This works perfectly for quickly assessing brightness and contrast of pictures.
In pse 10 however I could not find any button to change the preset lightgrey background colour to darkgrey.

I am working on a design for a tee shirt and was trying to figure out how to give the image
a vintage look. Is there a filter or technique that can be used that
will make the image or letters appear worn.

After Update 2 and Hotfix 1 (I haven't noticed after which of them exactly it happened) some options in X6, when they are active, are receiving some grey-pink background together with the small icon near them - for example Object position, Object size, Angle of rotation and others. You will see them when you select some object.
In the same color are also some items in the menus without obvious principle. I don't think that this is intentional. Or I cannot see it?

First time poster here. I have been trying hard to reproduce a vintage color effect, but I haven't received the results that I wanted. Any suggestions?
Here are some of the photos that I've been using as a reference and trying to reproduce the effect:
I've tried many different combinations of selective color black/black, adjusting the lower end red/blue in curves, and desaturations. I have come close but it's just not exactly the same. Any tips?

Does anyone know how to get this old vintage look? It seems the saturation is down and there is a bit of yellow added to the image maybe? I'm not quite sure, but I really like it. Any thoughts?

For a recent project of mine I need to recreate this effect I found on a vintage nike t-shirt. I love this style, not sure what exactly it is? Perhaps inspired by Ettore Sottsass and his "memphis" design movement.

I am currently running Map 3D 2012 with CadWorx and I am having an issue with one of my multi tab drawings. Any object set to plot grey (any grey), that is in paper space, is plotting black only in one of my layouts. similar objects in model space and in both spaces on other layouts are all plotting accordingly.

I am creating colage images in Photoshop CS4. I sometimes use scanned vintage daguerreotypes or other small snapshots. They are often small sized at 3.5" x 4.5" or 4.25" x 5.5". My Epson 835 scanner can scan in at 300, 400, up to 800 dpi. If I intend to print these scans at 8x10, 11x14 or a larger size within the overall collage, should I scan in at the highest dpi allowed by my scanner? Does this make a real difference after 300 in resolution/clarity?
Also, Does Photoshop CS4, in the enlarging process, as I bring the smaller image into my composite and stretch size it up with (T) tool, end up just making "junk pixels" using "Bicubic" or "Bicubic smoother" in the printing from flattened PS file, even tho I scanned in at a high dpi? scan in at best dpi so that the image won't be pixelated, lose resolution as it is used larger inside the final composite collage.
