Jan 21, 2013When I select a tool in the Photo Editor, this tool or another determines what form the cursor takes. I there a way that I have no tool selected when I run the cursor over a photo? Or do I always have to have one tool operative?

Jul 9, 2008It's not greyed out, it's missing. Using PS CS3, on Windows XP SP2 and working now in RGB for design, but need to convert to CMYK for printing.
I've done this a million times and this is the 1st time CMYK has been missing.

Jul 14, 2013I had a sudden loss of Photoshop and need to work on a large multi-layered psd. (Had I known in advance I would have reduced the size & layer amount.) Gimp won't open it because it's CMYK.
Tried several conversion techniques to RGB, none worked well. How can I open this file and maintain the layers? Also, there seem to be several different kinds of RGB, what are the differences?

Aug 21, 2009We would like to experiment mixing a spot colour in a normal CMYK image in order to expand the colour palette. Our problem is the fact that we cannot get Photoshop to show us the actual image once we have added the spot colour.
The spot channel shows as if it is being printed on top of the CMYK colours instead of being mixed with them. This makes it very difficult to judge what adjustments have to be made to the image. Of course, saving the file as a DCS2 and placing it in InDesign shows us what we want, but this is too much jumping back and forth between programmes to be efficient. We are runnnig CS3 on Windows XP Professional.

I'm using a lot of images for a print project so need to keep file sizes small with resolution of 300dpi. The image dimensions are really small, only about 30mm high so they shouldn't be this large a file size

I am using a clipping path but this doesn't seem to be effecting file size (I checked by saving it as RGB with a clipping path which stayed small, and by saving one without a clipping path in CMYK which was huge)

Apr 23, 2013I'm using Photoshop CS6. I have a CMYK image of fruit on a white background with a drop shadow that has some cyan, magenta and yellow. The drop shadow is NOT AN EFFECT. It is part of the original photographed image shot against a white background.
I want to turn the drop shadow into a percentage of black only. I have masked the foot so I have the white background and shadow isolated but now I'm not sure the best way to make the shadow a percentage of black only.

Illustrator :: CMYK Values Of Imported Image Don't Match?
Mar 24, 2013I made a simple poster using photoshop to make the background and illustrator to make the fonts and some other stuff. In CMYK my black is just 100% K ( in photoshop)

 When placing image in illustrator the 100% K (black) changes to different black with C M Y added. But then when I save it as PDF the preview shows black as a bit grey (which is something normal- in print it will be just black). So my question is .. should I change enything just to be able to see a 100% K in illustrator in order to match CMYK values of Photoshop? Or should I leave it this way? I guess if I am getting a "grey" in PDF preview is something good isn'it? because in photoshop when I set to 100%K in my screeen it looks like grey and not total black.

When I open the same eps in PS, PS thinks the file is CMYK. Whether I open the file as CMYK and convert to RGB or open at RGB, the colors shift. If I leave the file as CMYK, the colors are shifted.

I can confirm that when I convert the file in AI from RGB to CMYK, I can see the color shift. If I leave the file as RGB in AI, it looks how I want.cannot get the file to show in PS as the same color as what I see in AI.I have confirmed that both AI and PS have color settings set to NA GP2.

Feb 10, 2005I've been creating book covers in paint shop pro 8. I create the covers from images that I get from my customers, and then send them off to a printer to be printed. On a couple of occasions, the printer people have came back and told me my cover is created in "rich" black. I think they mean the CMYK value is 100% for all 4 colors. They won't accept that. My question is, in photoshop, is there a way once I receive an image to check and see what the CMYK value of that image is, and if so, fix potential problems as described above? It doesn't appear I can in paint shop pro. I have been looking for a good reason to purchase photoshop anyway since I'm sure its a much better graphics program.

The problem is that the color mode was changed from RGB to CMYK at the last minute after the file was flattened and saved, so now I'm stuck with large black areas that are not PANTONE process black, but are 90% K with varying levels of CM and Y. I need to replace the large impure black swaths of my file with true key color black without compromising the quality of the file to ensure the project succeeds.

Aug 28, 2006I have a folder of images, some in RGB, some in CMYK. I want them all to be in RGB so I'm running a batch action on them with a conditional mode change. So, if a file is in CMYK, it is changed to RGB.
But if a file is already in RGB, I get this annoying alert, telling me "Mode of the document is the same as the target mode. No conversion performed."
Well, of course. I don't expect it to be converted. That's why I chose CONDITIONAL mode change! I don't want to have to hold PS's hand through this batch but it's making me sit through the conversion of hundreds of files simply so I can say okay that it's doing what I asked it to do.
I've checked the "suppress color profile warnings" box and told it to log errors to a file (i.e not to stop) but I'm still getting the alert.
