View 5 RepliesI am using PSE 12 as an external editor for Aperture. When I ask to use an external photo editor, Aperture creates a .tiff file in my Aperture folder, launches PSE 12 and tells it to edit that .tiff file. This all works great. When I am done editing in PSE 12, I ask it to save the file and it saves it back to the original Aperture folder with a .tif extension. I can instead say "save as" and then it suggests the file name with a .tif extension. When I correct the extension to .tiff it warns me that I'm going to overwrite the file (exactly what I want!). I say yes and then I find out that PSE did not overwrite the file, but wrote it as a .tif file anyway. I have to go to the folder, delete the .tiff file and rename the .tif file to .tiff and then everything is fine - but what a hassle.

I have tried changing file type associations in Windows, changing file type associations in Bridge, changing the registry, right clicking and selecting open with, and nothing works. The only way I can do it is to drag my file to the 32 bit PS icon. How do I make 32 bit the default version that opens?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have PS CS3 and am running a Dell precision workstation 690 with 4GB ram, 1.6GHz Xeon duo core processor, NVIDIA Quadoro FX 3450 video card. I have a tiff that is 705.4 MB and when I try to open it an error message pops up and reads: could not compelte your request because there is not enought memory (RAM).
I have gone into preferences/performance and moved the memory usage up to 70%. Do I really need to purchase more RAM for the computer?
Earlier this year, I was still using CS3. I created a bunch of original TIFF files, and modified files which had been created in CS1. When I am having to go back and reference these CS3 TIFFs, some of them are giving me an error message and refusing to open. Evidently, they are not compatible with CS6?
I have since uninstalled CS3, but the box is sitting on the shelf if I need it (which I am hoping I don't). Any workaround - preferably one which will not destroy my layers.
I'm looking for a Plug-In to open G4-Compressed Tiff files in photoshop.

I saved a file as a .tif and it saved as normal then I shut down Photoshop and then the PC. The next day when I try to open the file it doesn't open correctly it opens but the right hand side of the photo is on the left and the left hand side of the image is now on the right, its like its been cut in half and put back the wrong way.
It also didn't open with the layers only as a locked background. When I view the file in the icon it looks fine until I open it.

View 22 Replies View RelatedI have installed both version 2.6.11 and also version 2.4.7 of the Windows version of Gimp that I have downloaded from here [URL]
When I launch Gimp, and select File / Open from the main menu, neither TIF/TIFF nor JPG/JPEG files are listed when "All Images" is selected in the file type drop-down listbox. If I select "All Files", and then select either a TIFF or JPEG file, then an error message appears stating "Unknown file type". The specific types listed in the file type drop down list box include:
GIMP XCF image (*.xcf)
bzip archive (*.xcf.bz2, *.bz2, *.xcfbz2)
Dexktop Link (*.desktop)
G3 fax image (*.g3)
GIF image (*.gif)
gzip archive (*.xcf.gz, *.gz, *.xcfgz)
Photoshop image (*.psd)
I have read here: [URL] that, "Some of the file types, such as JPEG and TIFF, require extra libraries (described elsewhere)." I have no idea where "elsewhere" is.
I have completely uninstalled, rebooted, and reinstalled both version 2.6.11 and 2.4.7 with the exact same results each time. The program otherwise works as advertized, with no errors or problems that I am aware of.
Am I missing something here? All indications are that GIMP (Even the Windows version) natively supports TIFF / TIF and JPEG / JPG files, but that is certainly not my experience!
I am specifically interested in opening TIFF / TIF files.
My Corel ProX4 program will not open a pic with a .tif file extension. I received the pic from an iMac. I know the pic contains layers with names typed in to identify the individuals in the pic. How can I get Corel to open these pictures? I have Corel on a pc running windows 7 professional.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have PS Elements 9. Wondering if in a non-compressed image (in this case a tif file where there are several layers) why I cannot create a 1-inch black border in the background layer. Instead of creating a black border around my image, it simply adds 1-inch of the background layer color -- in other words "bumps it up" 1 inch, but does not create the black border I would like.
View 1 Replies View RelatedA co-worker needs to be able to access certain files that I have created in Photoshop CC. These files are saved as TIFFs, and as part of my workflow, I have just about everything in Groups. She currently has Elements 10 on her system, but that absolutely does not permit access to the Groups and the components within. Because of her job duties, I cannot necessarily justify adding her to the CC account since she does not need PS, AI, ID, or any of the other applications as I do. However, I can easily justify upgrading her to Elements 12...provided it does what we need it to.

View 3 Replies View RelatedURL....I am using PSE 12 as a photo editor for Aperture 3.5.1 and the photo is duplicated (as a tiff) in Aperture and PSE editor opens with the image. When I close the file and say to save the file it brings up the save as window.
I tell PSE 12 to "on first save -- save over current file" it now brings up the "save as" window and won't save over the file (changes the file type from .tiff to .tif)
Everything I read says its version 6.4, but when I attempt to run the 6.4 patch I get the message that it does not apply? Has Adobe prevented PSE7 from opening .NEF files from the D5100 (without conversion) in an effort to force paid upgrades to the current PSE version?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am cleaning up the Hard Drive on my Mac G4. My scanned images are taking a great portion of the 80 Gig drive. I finished clearing my external drive by removing nearly 60 gigs of images by storing them on DVD. I will do the same for the Mac drive.
My trouble is that all my images are stored in TIFF format which takes up enormous space no matter the storage. Since I output images in various sizes, mainly prints, to 30 x 40 inches, I need a master image archived in the best format for such. However, I do not want to fill my drives, or DVD, with large files. Code:
