Photoshop Elements :: 11 - Backup Disk Seems To Be Empty
Jan 6, 2014
I bought photoshop elements 11 and I backed it up on a disk when I got rid of my old computer. But the disk seems to be empty. I made a mistake somewhere. Can I download Photoshop elements 11 ? Now there seems to be only elements 12.
When doing catalog backup get message " your system is low on disk space, and elements organizer cannot perform the operation. If create a catalog with 20 pictures backup works OK. backing up to a 1TB external drive. Have 16705 pictures in catalog. Total disk space for pictures is 192 MB. Why am I getting message?
When i back-up the catalogue, i assumed the backup would be mede of al the tags added to photo's. When i check the catalogue-files, i see a whole lot of jpg-files. My actual photo-collection contains jpg-, raw an avi-files.
I have a habit of making a copy of all my photofiles, but now it seems double
Question: Does de backup-function of photoshop elements 11 actually make a backup of tags and photo's?
Since updating to LR4.2 and moving files around my backup files have grown too much, like 40GB over the last week. If I should uninstalled LR4.2 then re-installed, how do I locate those backup files (perhaps hidden!) before re-installing ?
250 GB Internal Hard-Disk (with Lightroom catalog on it) 60 GB Internal SSD-Disk (with Mac OS X Lion 10.7 on it) 2 TB External Hard-Disk (place where I try make my backup to)
There is only appox. 6 GB free space on system disk (SSD). When I start to make catalog backup to External 2 TB disk, it makes it long time (copying files to External disk), then after a while Lightroom starts to "Optimizing catalog". And during this optimizing, Lightroom starts to eat disk space on the system disk (SSD). More and more, and then finally it show me the message "Lightroom was unable to back up the catalog named "XXXXX". Please check your folder permissions, and make sure that you have available space on your backup drive and main catalog's drive."
The problem is that I actually HAVE free space on 250 GB disk (where catalog is located) and on External 2 TB (where is backup destination).Lightroom says NOTHING about the fact that he needs lots of free space on SYSTEM disk. But it actually eats it.And what I want to ask, whether it is possible to make Lightroom use space on another disk, not on system?
We just got our new 2013 disks and I was going to make a backup copy like I usually do (it worked for 2012) and my backup software says there is not enough room on a standard DVD-5 to fit. So did Autodesk use some copy protection or did the install disk get so big it must go on a DVD-DL?
Having tried to install PSE12 for several times without success ( problem to establish connection with other tools), I got now an error message "specified path empty" generated by the deinstallation process. It's strange that the deinstallation process is launched because the installation always failed so far (I can't find any trace of the installation in Windows 7). Please note that I've also launched the Adobe Support tool which confirmed that everything is ok concerning the PSE12 installation prerequisits.
When I try to backup the catalog, it starts to calculate space; at 24% through the process photoshop appears to freeze and no further progress occurs. How can I get past this problem?
It stalls during the "Calculating Total Media Size" operation. All else seems OK. I am able to "Save Metadata to Files" and "Prepare Files". I'm running Windows 7 64bit w/ latest updates.
When I try to backup my catalog to DVD it appears like it is working then a box opens with "Elements Organizer" at the top. At the bottom it says, "Disk Creation by Sonic Solutions" and in the middle there it says "Writing Disc" with a progress bar under it. This displays for a while but the progress bar never goes above 0%.
After a while (like 5 minutes) a Windows Error message appears that says "Elements 12 Organizer has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available"
There is no other error information displayed that indicates what the error is however I went to the Windows Event Viewer and found the following Event:
I've used PSE 10 for some time, but only backup about twice a year (full backups to both external drive and dvds stored offsite). It won't let me backup to my K drive (external), doesn't even start before stating that it has encountered an error writing the file. The external drive works fine; just backed up using Windows BU. I've repaired, optimized, and reconnected files to no avail.
Backup PSE 10 catalog on laptop and restore it to desktop.
PSE 10 backup of 60K photos failed to backup 4K photos, many .tif and some .jpg. Reconnected, repaired, repaired anyway & optomized all successfully prior to backup. Also did same after backup & restoration and all steps were successful except Reconnect was not. Refuses to reconnect missing files, so have manually found (by scrolling through the catalog) and connected 2.5K photos. Remaining unconnected photos can only be located one at a time by clicking on Reconnect, which results in a total count of the number missing and then PSE 10 tries to locate just one and when doesn't find it, the PSE 10 closes. Has taken weeks to reach this point by scrolling 60K photos so remaining, some of which are in stacks, by letting PSER 10 try to Reconnect each photo one at a time and close is a tremendous waste of one life!
I just bought a mac but I have all my photos in PSE. Can I use the backup from the PC and do a restore with PSE? I don't want to buy PSE for the mac if I can not load all my pictures with tags from the PC.
I used photoshop element 9.. I was just finishing my flyer for a client. When I went to click save and was waiting for the save to complete, the photoshop just disappear and when I open it back up PSE9 and went to look for my file, I was working on it say This is not a vaild Portable Document File??? I dont want to start over from scratch Is there any way to recover the file?
When I try to create a new, empty catalog in Elements 9, I get this error message. "The catalog could not be opened. It is either corrupt, or the version is out of date and cannot be updated."
I put the elements 12 disk in my DVD drive and it spens about 4 minutes trying to get going. The lights on the drive flash occasionally, and you can hear it trying to go. I go to "my computer" to check the "drive" folder and it never appears for me to click on it and open it. It also doesn't automatically load which I have turned on. I have verified it is a DVD drive.
I am running Photoshop Elements 5.0 on Windows 7. The back-up feature no longer functional. My last full back-up was a year ago. When I try to perform an incremental back-up, it hangs (Not Responding) and I have to close the program. With over 34,000 photos, I am concerned about continuing to use the program to manage my photos. I am hesitant to upgrade to 11 with all the problems I am having with 5.0 (no back-up and unable to share photos to Outlook).
I have elements 7 and want to do a backup for a spare, but also use the backup to move to a new computer I just purchased. When I do the backup (full), it runs (I give it about 3 hrs). When I open the task manager is says not responding. Is there another way to move the pictures and captions to a backup and to put on the new computer. Were talking 42 gb of pictures.
Going through the process PSE11 tells me I will need 16 DVDs. After the first one or two (sometimes three) I receive an error message, asking to update the firmware of my DVD burner. I have the latest firmware installed, and do not have any issues burning multiple DVDs with other software (Nero; Version 12). I have tried Fuji as well as TDK media and tried burning @ 8x (My drive and the media are both rated @ 16x). I have also tried turning off Media analysis. As a last resort, I uninstalled and re-installed PSE11. All with no success.
I am able to back up this catalogue to an external hard drive as well as an internal hard drive, but want to back up to a more stable media (DVD).
Win 7 (64-bit) with all updates and all drivers are the latest versions.
I tried to backup my organizer catalog (only the database) without all the pictures, just like I used to do in Lightroom (.lrcat). But somehow, it seems to work only with all the content.
I am having a problew with my first full backup after importing 27000 photos. My catalog organizer in psa 11 also shows over a 1000 movies from adobe premier elements software which seems to have a common thread between them. The backup stops at 44% the 3 times I have tried. Just a beginner with both software.
I need to store my catalog offline on an external hard drive. I am using PSE 8 and running under Windows XP. My attempts so far indicate a link back from PSE 8 to My Documents - Pictures in Windows.
