Photoshop :: Dragging Channels To Layers

Jun 9, 2012

I've been working with the tutorial link below to get rid of some stains, While I have no problem working directly on the channels, I'm lost as to what it means to drag the channels onto layers. I can't seem to find a reference as to how to do this. Most likely I don't have to correct term when I'm searching.

"I normally drag the channels out onto layers to make the repairs. This gives much more control, especially if graduated masks are required. On this occasion and for the sake of simplicity I've made the repairs directly on the channels."

Photoshop :: Locking And Dragging Layers

May 12, 2009

I have a image that displays the following....

This template has been shrunk down to

300 DPI for file size reduction, it is actually

1200 DPI. To size it back up to 1200 DPI,

Lock all of these layers and then open up

a new 1200DPI file (width 3.4,height 2.2)

and drag these locked layers to that file,

then hit Ctrl+T then hold Ctrl+S and resize

the template. The template will look and

print much clearer after it’s re-sized.

I have a mac and photoshop cs3

When I open 1 single frame I can see my object buffers in the channels, when I open my sequence I just get R, G, B, RGB.

Photoshop :: Dragging All Layers In A Group By Default

Nov 20, 2008

I recently upgraded to CS3, and I'm getting quite frustrated at it.

I am used to having to select a layer from the layer panel to move it around. Now, whenever I click on something in the image, it auto chooses that layer and let's me move that around. I'd rather not have it set this way. I like to be able to click anywhere while my chosen layer is selected and be able to move it.

It's especially frustrating when I have things in groups. Instead of just moving the layer clicked, it moves the entire group.

Is there a fix to this in the preferences somewhere? I've scoured the menus and can't find anything relevant to this 'feature'.

Photoshop :: CS5 / Dragging Layers Over Open Documents To Destination Blanks Them Out?

Feb 24, 2013

This has happened since CS5 I think.  When I select an area to copy into another document, I am so used to dragging it over to the destination document.  Sometimes I have more than one document open at a time and dragging over them blanks them out.

GIMP :: Layers / Channels / Paths Will Not Display

May 14, 2012

I cannot bring up Layers, Channels, or Paths. Running Gimp 2.6.10 on a Windows 7 machine. Selecting Windows...Dockable Dialogs...Layers or Channels or Paths does not bring up a new dialog window. Also there is nothing in Windows...Recently Closed Docs

This occurs regardless of image file opened. Not sure how long this has been the situation as I have not been using gimp on the computer where this problem is occurring for a couple months. Am not an advanced user though have used it occasionally for years. All other Selecting Windows...Dockable Dialogs... actions bring up window boxes normally. Tab does toggle display for the Toolbox etc. Just Layers, Channels, or Paths have an issue and I suspect it may have occurred because they were sharing the same window box. I did reset Preferences.

I am able to readily create layers on top of a base image but without the dialog box, only have access to the last one created. Also can merge down the last new layer or flatten the image. My suspicion is gimp may be displaying the dialog box at XY coordinates beyond my monitor screen displayable coordinates. There is a configuration file that saves the last used settings that I can simply delete?

GIMP :: Quickly Separate An Image's Channels Into Grayscale Layers?

Nov 8, 2012

How do I quickly separate an image's channels into grayscale layers? I'll need to do this frequently, so is there an automated way? If there isn't, can it be done with python scripting? Would it take me a long time to learn how to write such a script assuming I know a bit of Python (as used in Blender), but haven't done any scripting with GIMP?

Illustrator :: CS6 Layers Panel Won't Allow Moving Objects By Dragging Selected-art Indicator Dot

May 22, 2012

Having trouble moving objects between layers by simply dragging the right-hand dot to a new layer? CS6 won't let me drag the dot on any kind of selected art from any kind of file I've tried..

Click the name of the desired layer in the Layers panel. Then choose Object > Arrange > Send To Current Layer. Drag the selected-art indicator , located at the right of the layer in the Layers panel, to the layer you want.  But method #2 doesn't work at all for me. In fact, the cursor doesn't even change when I mouse over the selected-art indicator dot.

GIMP :: Prevent From Dragging Curve Instead Of Dragging Anchor?

Jul 12, 2012

I'm refining some SVG files, imported into GIMP as paths. I added numerous guides on the images and drag anchors to the guides. All the paths consist of straight lines only. The problem is that on some anchors GIMP performs the "drag curve" operation instead of the "drag anchor". As a result, my straight lines become broken (curved).

The only solution I've found so far is to apply maximum zoom level, say 400%, and repeat the dragging in this resolution. This makes GIMP work properly, at least, I'm able to "drag anchor" as expected. But switching back and forth to the 400% zoom level is a bit annoying and inconvenient.

Is there a better way to "say" GIMP that "dragging anchor" is the "dragging anchor", not "dragging curve"?

Photoshop :: Channels

Mar 27, 2003

I guess sometimes teaching newbies like me is annoying. I could take the easy way ripping like most of the people does, but i do really want to learn, and i have a question, so if someone thinks tht spending his time teaching a fool newbie is something worth, thr it goes...

I know when we have an image even it is using "RGB" or "CMYK" collor mode, it is divided in channels, red, green, blue and so... this i can understand quite clear, but wht exactly is an alpha channel??? wht collor it represents??? Wht is it for??? Is there an article tht i could read about it??? I can manage it well, but i'd like to know it's concepts..

Photoshop :: Channels

Jul 20, 2004

I have been using the Total Training series, and am ALMOST complete (Just gotta go over the Typeface tool area and go over the Bonus disc material)

One area that Deke (the host of the series) didn't get into much was Channels. Hopefully I would like to state how I see them, and if I am incorrect in any way (or if you have useful information about channels), you could pipe in and let me know! Thanks.

Ok, so channels are dependant on the Color Mode you are in, right? If you are in RGB, then you'll have 4 channels. Red, Green, Blue, and the channel which controls them all, called RGB. In CMYK color mode, you'll have 5. Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black, and the control channel 'CMYK'.

Each channel, aside from the control channels, are a Grayscale mapping of that color's (WHAT?) in an image? It's Lightness? Saturation? I know it couldn't be Hue, because that's determined by the collective color from each channel put together.

Also, what is the point in ADDING channels? I thought that it would be nice if you could add a channel which affected the layer via some kind of adjustment, but that is merely the adjustment layer feature (with mask used in order to define intensity of the effect on that layer) So what is the point in adding channels?

When i select "Channels" option, i am getting a image which looks like looking through a RED, BLUE and GREEN filter. It is not showing the images in various greyscale modes as shown in the tutorials. There is a red or blue or green color cast on the image.

Is there any setting i need to select when using these options?

Photoshop :: How To View Different Channels

May 14, 2013

I am trying to convert an image that I took in SlideBook using fluorescent dyes to label proteins on a cell. The original image has two channels (red and green) with different intensities for each which correspond with the amount of each respective protein present. The problem is when I open the image in PS and convert it to RGB mode, all three of the channels have the same intensities so I get a black image. If i vary the contrast I can see the image but it is in black and white and the intensities of each channel are the same so I am unable to separate the two colors. I need to be able to see both channels (red and green) with their original intensities but I cannot figure out how!

Today when I go into channels I can select Blue, Green or Red separately, but when I go to select RGB on it's own, it won't -  it highlights that and the three seperate channels.  I can turn the 'eye' icon on and off all of the others but not RGB.

Photoshop :: Dragging In New Images To CS5?

Jun 3, 2012

Whenever I drag in a new image from my desktop or some other directory, and place it in Photoshop it always acts as a new layer on the thing that i was working on before, and as a smart object.I know I can drag it into the bar up top, but honestly that's such a small area, so it's rather annoying. I find it more convenient to be able to drag the image just about anywhere, and have it open as if i went File>Open

I might even go back to CS4 just to be able to avoid both problems by letting documents float, and not open each image as a separate window in the taskbar.

Photoshop :: Channels And Colors

Apr 17, 2007

Why is it that in an RGB colored red rose, the red channel is very light in color and the blue and green channels are very dark (near black), even though there is relatively little blue are green in the colored (RGB composite) version of the vibrantly colored red rose? This seems to be counter intuitive. When I look into the red channel, I would expect to see dark density to reflect the dominance of the red channel and lightness in the blue and green channels to reflect their relative absence in a red rose.
