Photoshop :: Downloaded Actions Stealing Function Key Shortcuts
Feb 9, 2006
I had such great luck getting a pencil tool frustration I've lived with for far too long fixed by simply asking a question here, so I thought I'd ask one more. I downloaded some actions from Adobe Studio Exchange. A couple of them "stole" normal function key shortcuts (i.e., clicking "f5" runs some bizarre "Polaroid" action instead of opening the brushes panel). That sucks!
I've just been immediately deleting actions whenever I've noticed this behavior--but is there any way to prevent that from occurring? I wouldn't mind keeping some of these actions around--but I'd *never* want an action to override a shortcut--nor would I ever *need* an action to even have a shortcut.
I have PS CS3 and cannot figure out how to use free downloaded actions. I get them loaded and they show up in my actions folder but when I place my cursor on top of the play button, it turns to a circle with a line going through it, not allowing me to play it.
I'm going to try and attach a couple pictures but not sure if that's going to work either.
I have recorded quite a few actions in PS 7 but only recently started making a note of what keyboard shortcuts call what action. As a result, quite a few of the available function keys are 'taken' but I don't know what they do and have so far not managed to find out. Failing all else I can delete the whole lot and start again, making better notes. But I'd rather not. So; Â Q: how can I see all the function keys' actions?
I have two actions that I use quite often. I assigned keyboard shortcuts to them in the actions dropdown menu. However whenever I press the shortcut keys, nothing ever happens. I have tried changing the modifier key combinations...
when I assign "" to OverrideShortcut the the OverrideShortcutType is kNoShortcut when I assign "D" to OverrideShortcut the the OverrideShortcutType is kAliasShortcut when I assign "Ctrl+D" to OverrideShortcut the the OverrideShortcutType is kAcceleratorShortcut
So far so good but now:
when I assign "F11" to OverrideShortcut the the OverrideShortcutType becomes kAliasShortcut resulting in:
I have to type F 11 to launch the command. What I want is to Press the key F11 to lunch the command instead of typing F 11
(This works good with Ctrl+D but not with F11)
Can I work around this to use the Function key's ?
I've set up an action that will add crop marks to a selected object. The action works great when clicking the play button on the panel, but when I assign a Function Key to the action, it runs the action twice (giving me 2 set of crop marks). I've tried different Function Keys thinking it was a keyboard shortcut conflict, but that has made no difference.
This happenes often, but not consistently.I'm using CS6 (regular) with OSX Lion, 16GB RAM. Â Once I have a few files open, Photoshop starts "stealing" the cursor focus, which is to say if I go to any other application, as soon as I make one click, PS jumps into the foreground and becomes the active application. The click I made in the other app was applied, and I can see it when I go back to that app, but as soon as I click again, Photoshop pops back into focus. Â The only workaround I've found is minmizing PS while I use other apps. Or closing it and restarting it. Sometimes just reducing the program window works, and sometimes not.
I downloaded a couple of actions from the web to my actions palette and they worked fine, but then I got greedy and downloaded a few more and that’s when things went south. Now none of the actions work - by not working I mean when I mouse over the Play Selection icon at the bottom of the action palette I get that little circle with a line through it. This happens with the PS default actions as well (I also get the circle on the Stop Playing/Recording and Begin Recording icons).
Somewhere in the following is probably what messed things up.
I downloaded actions to my computer in zip files. Copied them over to the actions folder (or somewhere) and unzipped them. I went back to the actions palette and hit “load actions” and loaded them. On the second set of actions that I downloaded I remember thinking “why am I copying and pasting these files - I bet I should cut and paste them, so I did and that may have been the start of the great crumble of 2004. PhotoShop help says: (under Saving and loading actions) “Actions are automatically saved the the Actions Palette folder in PS7.0 Settings folder. If this file is lost or removed, the actions you created are lost”.
I have searched for the settings folder and couldn’t find it, but the actions still show up on the actions palette - they just don’t run.
I’m a little fuzzy on the details on the above steps. In fact, I probably did something different on each download.
one more thing, I reloaded PhotoShop, but still nothing.
My computer crashed and I removed all apps and reinstalled so now none of my actions appear. However I do have a backup file of all of them and want to reinstall but before when I was using cs6 ( Im assuming same thing as CC as it was all on the subscription plan ) I would click actions then the right arrows and it would bring me a big screen of all the actions ( even the ones that were just preloaded in ps ) and it was a big box with all the actions and some options to record etc...Now that box isn't there and it's just a single column drop down menu.
I'm trying to build a command to replace AutoCAD's "DI" command, to give distance and delta x, y, and z values in decimal and imperial, and keep the angles in XY plane and out of XY plane.
I'm trying to be able to have a function run another function with the secondary function being passed as an argument to the first. I'm trying to create a recursive function and the recursive part works great. I just need to be able to have the recursive function run other functions to actually do stuff.
Here is something I found that should do what I need, mainly run a function from a function name in a variable. Â Sub test() Dim ftnName As String Dim argument As String Dim result As String ftnName = "myFunction" argument = "cat" result = Application.Run(ftnName, argument) MsgBox resultEnd SubFunction myFunction(inString As String) As String myFunction = inString & " has " & Len(inString) & " letters."End Function
However I get the error "object required" on the "result = Application.Run(ftnName, argument)" line. So I'm guessing the Inventor VBA doesn't like this method of doing this. I'm just hoping there is a way to do this or this function will be useless or reduced to hardcoding functions which still defeats the purpose.
I downloaded a font off the web and put it in my C:/WINNT/Fonts folder. The font appears in my list of fonts in Photoshop but when I type I can't see anything. However what I type is stored as the name of the text layer, so it knows I've typed something in, I just can't see it.
i've downloaded some brushes from internet for photoshop but no idea where to put them.. do i have to specially instal them or just unzip them to a folder,
but can't work out where to go from there..' read me' says to drop into photo shop but not sure if I have to drop in whole folder which I did or open folders and drop in contents which also did but not able to find where they are or not coming up in fill patterns. or brushes???
I have CS4 Extended. I downloaded the extract plugin from URL....., downloaded it to the correct folder. But when I run PS I see the filter there but its grayed out, not working. Did download the correct files?
I'e just downloaded the Pattern maker plugin for my Photoshop CS4 64 bit, but I can't see how to install or run it. It's saved to the default location, Ive had no screen prompts, have tried Adobe Support Advisor, which found no issues.
How do I use downloaded ICC paper profiles in CS5 when printing? I have downloaded some ICC profiles for Inkpress papers. They are in my download folder, but when I open CS5 I can't use the Inkpress profiles.Â
I downloaded an atn action from the web and now cannot get rid of in Photoshop. I looked for it in finder and can't find it. Do I need to uninstall then reinstall Photoshop to get rid of it?
Okay, so after a month of struggling to get Potoshop CS6 Extended Teacher Student Edition to work, I was playing around, downloading brushes and actions. The actions work. But I can't get the brushes to. I download them into the downloads file and then move them into program files > Adobe > Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64bit) > Presets > Brushes  There are some other folders. The other one is in program files > Adobe > Adobe Bridge CS6 (64bit) Program Files (x86) > Adobe... And In that is Fllash player, Photoshop Utilites - CS6, Adobe Photoshop CS6, Adobe Extension Manager CS6, Adobe Bridge CS6 and Acrobat 5.0  In the program files and not Program Files (x86) And then when I moved the files into the brushes folder, I got something that said "You'll need to provide administator premission to copy to this folder." And then it asks to countunie, skip or cancel.
I am using windows 8.1 and cs6 both recently installed. I have a problem with my PC in that downloaded RAW files are much too large at something like 45mb when they should be about 15mb.camera is a Nikon d700.
I just downloaded Photoshop CS6 and I made a GIF and saved it then realized it was to big so I saved it again with the Colors as 128 instead of 256 and got a "Could not complete this operation. An unknown error has occured." now I can't Save For Web at all. I deleted the save for web preferences and I'm still getting the same error. I'm using Windows 7 Starter btw
I recently downloaded upgrade to CS6 and would like to burn a backup CD. I tried, but when I opened the backup CD I got a circle with a line through it (not allowed or available symbol) over the Photoshop icon.
