Photoshop :: Copy Adjustment Layer Settings?
Jun 19, 2004
I have an action that creates an adjustment layer (curves) which stops and prompts you to load the saved curves file.
If I double click that step to edit, I can load the "saved" curves file and it will run flawlessly. BUT...if I move the curves file or share this action with someone, the action will no longer function since the saved path is incorrect.
Is there any way to open up the saved curves file and just write that into the action? There are a lot of settings and I would have a very hard time recreating the curves adjustment from scratch.

For example you take 2 shots of a model, but with slightly different position, it sucks having to redraw a whole new brush on the next photo. Would be great to be able to sync then just drag the brush pin into place. Like how you can with the radial fand ND filter. And it would be awesome to be able to copy the settings of one, and the paste them onto another pin on another area or another photo.Right now its so time consuming having to sync brush adjustments, erase them, then repaint where I want the same settings applied to a different part of another picture.
Â
Second, need to be able to select multiple or all pins, to be able to move them at the same time. Same for for the ND, radial, spot healing pins.
Â
Third, we need to be able to copy brush settings via right clicking the pin, as well as maybe in the brush panel at the top so its something like like:
Â
Mask:Â New | Edit | Copy | Paste

I have been working on a file in photoshop cs5 that had come from lightroom 5.3. This was then saved (automatically becomes tiff file in Lightroom). I then wanted to make some more adjustments to it in lightroom (using local adjustment clarity). I then tried to copy the settings of the adjustment brush from the tiff to the original raw file. This is where it gets very strange. The adjustments are copied but they are rotated ccw by 90 degrees! I can replicate this every time.

WIndows 7 x64Â Â |Â Â PS CS6. Just now while attempting to edit a Channel Mixer adjustment layer's creation dialogue settings, about 15 browser windows (not tabs but individual windows) trying to load Adobe docs all popped opened simultaneously.Killed Firefox's process and went back to PS.Every time I went back to PS though, it would happen again, when I clicked in the Channel Mixer settings.
Â
Got out of the loop by mashing the ESC button as I switched back to PS, which successfully killed the Channel Mixer dialogue.I've seen this behavior in PS for about 4 versions now, but never this severe. How dysfunctional.

I made a copy of a layer (a colored photo that I downloaded from Bridge) and I was messing around with the adjustment settings like desaturation. However, when I clicked on the adjustments tab most of the selections were greyed out. Do I need to go up to color settings and change them to fix the problem?

I'm using Photoshop CS4. In previous versions, you could hold down Alt while choosing an adjustment, such as Levels -- Instead of the default settings for the dialog, you would automatically get the same adjustment settings that were used the last time (as long as Photoshop had not been closed and reopened).
Can the same thing be done with the Adjustments panel -- click on an adjustment and get the last settings that were used? I tried the old Alt-Click shortcut and that didn't work.

What I want to do is to have an adjustment layer that is a reversed, black and white image. I initially thought to merge B&W and reverse adjustment layers, but read that an adjustment layer may not be the target of a merge. Is the way to accomplish this to fiddle with the B&W adjustment layer sliders somehow?
Â
I like how the black and white displayed image of a given color channel looks, how can I export that channel into a layer?

I use a lot of adjustment layers and they're often applied to the previous layer. Is there a keyboard shortcut to automatically "Use pervious layer as clipping mask" without going through the dialogue box or manually applying in the layers palette(Option-click between layers)?

When working on an image in ACR, if you select one of the local adjustment tabs, such as Graduated Filter, and move any of the sliders on the right-hand side, any values you change will be retained if pressing 'Cancel', then opening the image again in ACR and selecting the same tab. I find this surprising, as I would have thought that by pressing 'Cancel', any adjusted settings, since opening the image on this occasion in ACR, would not be retained.
Â
Furthermore, if you open another image in ACR and select the same local adjustment tab, the same settings that you adjusted in the other image have identical slider settings in that image as well.
Â
I can see that this behaviour could be viewed as useful, i.e. when wanting to use the same local adjustment on multiple images, as any adjustment of the local adjustment's slider settings, on their own, will have no effect unless you actually perform the selected local adjustment to the image. But, as I say, I would have expected Photoshop to simply not retain any settings you have adjusted, since opening the image on this occasion in ACR, if you don't press 'Open Image' or 'Done', and simply press 'Cancel'.

I'm familiar with adjustment layers and clipping masks, but am wondering if there's a way to have an adjustment layer affect a group of layers below it, but not all of them. (Usually you have a choice of having it affect either JUST the layer beneath it (through a clipping mask), or ALL of the layers beneath it.

When you open an image with adjustment layers, what determines what is selected, the background or the adjustment layer? It seems sometimes it's one or the other, and I don't know the logic. Personally I would prefer that the image always opens with the background layer selected.

I'm new to Paint shop. Is it possible to clip an adjustment layer or image to just the layer below it like in Photoshop? Or maybe Paint shop calls it something else?

how to or where to find the adjustment settings in CorelDRAW X6 to set the sensitivity for selection?
I want the sensitivity for the Cursor to be higher to "easily" select objects. Â Currently, X6 appears to mimic Adobe Illustrator, which is not good.

Every time I use adjustments like brightness/contrast, PSP seems to remember those settings, because the next time I use them, they start with the same values as I used before. But I do not want that. This way I always have to move all sliders to their zero position before adjusting. Every image needs different values and I always like to start from scratch (zero values).
So, how can I tell PSP not to remember those settings every time?

Im creating a layout in CMYK and have a brigthness/contrast layer above my artwork. Once I merge the layers together (save it as TIFF) the contrast is not the same and I cant get the same color/contrast effect when I do it in flattened image. Any ideas how to solve this problem?I was thinking of taking screenshots of the "pre-merged" layout and putting it together but its a rather large file...

In CS3, my workhorse editor until recently, when I double clicked an adjustment layer it opened up the initial settings window. There I was able to tab browse through the variables, make whatever adjustments I wanted, hit enter, and live happily ever after. I haven't been able to figure out how do do this in CS6, which has the 'properties' panel for making changes to adjustment layer settings.
Â
The question: Can CS6 be set to behave like CS3 in this respect?

1) I'm not clear about when I should use an ordinary "new layer" and when an "adjustment layer"; are there instances when either will work and others when only one will; and
2) I think I've come across something funny about using an opacity setting: Say I've used one of the brush tools and, then, toned things down by lowering the opacity. I then go on to save the photo and quit PE. Well, when I open that photo again, the opacity comes already set as it was before. I find this confusing, especially if I go on to do something else involving opacity. Somehow it makes more sense to me to always begin fresh at "100%".

I'm almost finished with a project, but like always at the end something has to go wrong.
So I'm trying to make this sort of portal (based on a videogame).
I got the portal like I want it to be, but when I link the Color Balance effect to the Portal layer (so that it only effects that layer) the color just disappears, leaving me with a white portal.
But it needs to be done, otherwise it effects my other layers to and turn everything red.
When I link layers this happens:
But if I don't, it of course turns everything red:

Just upgraded CS6 to CC and really enjoy a lot of the changes but there seems to be a bug with the adjustment layer curves (not regular curves).
Â
If I make a change to the curve using modification point and then toggle "undo", the preview of the image will toggle on and off with the change but the modification point does not reset. This point stays in the original position even if the curves are not in effect and will only reset when another layer is selected before returning back to these curves.
Â
One must also manually reset the point if you wanted to revert back to the original (instead of undo) because if you place another modification point on the curve it will revert back to the change you made earlier.

Many Photoshop users consider the Curves panel to be Photoshop's most important feature. For many Curves users, the Layer panel introduced in CS4 does not offer the speed, the instinctive use, nor the superior results of the older Curves Layer panel.
The Curves dialog includes all the features that long-time users rely on. Some of these features have not been included in the Adjustment Layer version. They should all be available in the Layers panel, too.

how to make an adjustment layer and make the adjustments when the dialog/window pops up. Then I click OK and the layer appears in the Layers Pallet. So now lets say I want to refine the adjustment I just OKed. Is there a way to get the adjustment dialog to open up again? Or do I have to delete the first adjustment layer and start over on that adjustment?

about the appearance of adjustment layer thumbnails or icons. At times when I create an adjustment layer the thumbnail comes in as I expect ie a levels adjustment layer shows the scale icon. But at other times the layer will show a circle that is half black and half white like the add adjustment layer icon at the bottom of the layers palette.
I can?t figure out why this happens or what triggers it to change. It has no impact on the functioning of the layers it is just annoying and I like to see the correct thumbnails so I can tell what kind of layer it is at a glance.
