Photoshop :: CS5 - Preview Of GIFs Is Slow

Apr 24, 2012

I have Photoshop CS5 Extended, running on Mac OS X Snow Leopard. I use Photoshop to make gifs, either from video frames > layers or from importing screenshots into a stack. When I make the gifs, I set the frame delay in the animation panel to whatever I want - mostly 0.04, 0.06 and 0.1 and when I play it, it works exactly how I want it to, running at the speed set.

But when I go to Save for Web and Devices, the preview of the gif is slow and doesn't play at the same rate as what I set. No matter what I do to the frame rate - set it to no delay, convert it to a timeline gif, the gif doesn't run faster in the Save for Web window. When I upload it to a website, again the gif plays at the same slow rate shown in the Save for Web window.

This problem doesn't happen when I import a video to layers and set it to skip every two frames (or more). But even if I make a gif with very few frames (either from importing from a video with no skipping or from importing screenshots), it still runs very slow.

Other friends who make gifs via the same method as I do don't encounter this problem. I even opened a .psd from a friend of a gif with a frame rate of 0.06 and when I went to Save for Web, it still played very slow but for my friend, they managed to export the gif and have it play at the intended speed in their Photoshop (also CS5).

So how can I make the change the setting for the frame rate in Save for Web and Devices because I assume it must be an issue within that panel?

Photoshop :: CS6 - Why Are GIFs Saving Slow

Apr 19, 2013

I'm using Photoshop CS6 . I use the timeline to make my frames and adjust the delay number at the bottom of each thumbnail, i've tried (No Delay, 0.01, 0.1, 02) but once I save they slow down.

When I press play from the timeline it plays fast and smooth. When I click "Save For Web" and press play on the bottom right it plays the same (Although for some reason when the delay is set to No Delay or 0, it plays SUPER fast)

When I click "Preview..." on the bottom right and it opens up in IE it plays very slow even though its delay is set to 0 or the others i've listed above. When I save and open it plays just like when I click preview, slow and delayed. I've tried opening with IE, Firefox, and Chrome and same result.

I even tried saving the frames from my animation and using the Online Generator from [URL]......... and the image can play REALLY fast setting the delay all the way down, heck, I had to set it to around "277 delay" for it to play the way Photoshop saves it thats how slow Photoshop is saving my gifs.

So I know its not a case of the gif having too many frames, or the file being too big.. (Which I don't really see how thats relevant anyways since it should only decrease the image quality not the animation speed)

EDIT: I read somewhere that its because I dont have Quicktime, is this true? I don't want to DL Quicktime if not because I dont need it.

Photoshop :: Slow Animated GIFs In CS4

Nov 15, 2008

I'm making an animated mood theme for LJ in PS CS4, but so far all my gifs are slow, even when I preview them before making any changes (except resizing the screencaps, which were in PNG before I converted them to JPG). The gifs have less than 70 frames, which still sounds like a lot except that I've seen other moods with roughly the same number of frames and the same image sizes I get after all the adjustments (screen, soft light, selective coloring)--and those moods move at normal speeds, for some reason. Is there a way to speed the gifs up, even if the delay between frames is already 0 seconds? I've tried reducing the number of colors from 256 to 160 and setting the quality to bicubic sharper to make the images even smaller, but they still move with the speed of an arthritic turtle.

Photoshop :: GIF Preview Slow In Save For Web?

Jul 15, 2013

I am having an issue in Save for Web where the .gif animation preview works very slow and choppy. I am an advertising designer and many times I need to work on animated .gif banners. I am working with Photoshop CS6. When I play the animation in the frame timeline the animation speed works as intended, a little choppy but the timing isn't too bad. However when I go into the Save for Web screen and play the animation it always appears a lot slower and looks choppy. Anything se to 0.0 or No Delay runs as if its set to .1 seconds. Now if I export the file and open it in Chrome the animation speed seems to go back to normal. This wasn't always the case, I tested this 2 or 3 months ago and the animation speed in the export was also slow and choppy but it must have been fixed in one of the updates since then.

My issue is I don't want to have to preview everything in Chrome after I export it, and then possibly have to go back and tweak it then save again, preview again etc. I have never encountered this issue in previous versions on Photoshop or other machines. Ususally my experience has been the opposite, the frame timeline has always been slower, but previewing in Save fro Web has shown a pretty accurate preview.

I also have a HP laptop running Windows 7, photoshop CS6 and I don't encounter this issue at all. Default answer on all of the forums is "different browsers handle .gif animation speeds differently, etc.." but int he past I have saved a .gif on my mac and it was slow and choppy in the Chrome, then I saved the same file on my PC transfered it back to the mac and previewed in Chrome and the animation played quickly and smoothly.

I can't see it being a hardware issue because the machine I am using is farily new. iMac Late 2013/2013, 3.4 Ghz Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675MX 1024 MB, running OSX 10.8.4 Mountain Lion.

Could it possibly be a setting or preference that needs to be changed? As I stated above it seems that now when I export the animation works fine in the browser the preview is just slow.

Photoshop :: Bridge CS6 - Extremely Slow Preview Updates And Image Deleting

Jan 7, 2013

1. Updating previews (100%) is very slow.

Bridge CS6 has problems updating the previews of images that get edited. While creating preview from scratch is rather swift, updating previews takes about six minutes on a MacBook Pro retina with 16Gb RAM.After one minute the preview gets updated,  but then the busy signal in the low left corner just keeps turning and turning for five more minutes. Why is this happening? Is Bridge still busy with those previews? Why? The preview has already been updated, why those extra five minutes of business?

2. Image deleting is painfully slow.

You type Command + Delete, and nothing is happening for five, six seconds.Only then the images get deleted. Has noticed these two hold-ups?

I just went back after writing and editing this post, and Bridge is still busy with the preview update. This is now 15 minutes after the image had been edited. The busy signal in the lower left corner just never turns off again.

It feels like Bridge has also problems working in the background. As soon as you open e.g. a browser to bridge the waiting for bridge, Bridge seems to keep the busy signal rotating, but not actually doing anything until you close the browser again. Which is why I just had a 15 minute wait for an image preview to finally update. The time spent in the browser did not "count".

Lightroom :: Slow Preview On Second Monitor?

Oct 29, 2013

I'm using two monitors with LR5, and the second monitor is the preview screen. I find the preview on the second monitor to be painfully slow in both the Library and Develop modules:

1) If I am the Develop module, and I move to the next photo, and zoom the preview to 100% (or if it is already at 100%), it take a minute, literally, for the preview to display correctly.

2) In the Develop module, sometimes the display does not update correctly at all. If I adjust a slider on the Details tab, however slightly, the preview then updates almost immediately.

3) In the Library module, if I switch the main window to single photo view, and view 100%, then, as I browse the photos, the main window updates very quickly, but the preview window lags behind.

I'm working with Fuji X-Trans RAF files, and this maybe this si the issue? JPGs update almost immediately in the preview window in both modules.

Lightroom :: Preview Freezes - App Very Slow To Load While Creating New Previews?

Jul 15, 2013

Preview panel "preview" freezes indefinitely.App very slow to load while creating new previews. (previews take forever to create and update)Wrong previews showing for wrong images when swapping between folders, etc. (ie: all photos, last import, custom collections) This one is a little different...

Ratings lost when switching between folders, etc. (ie: all photos, last import, custom collections) This was a clean install that ran beautifully at first. Started noticing this more and more after using the spot tool. (my last step in processing a job)

I use separate catalogs per job. Some as small as a few dozen images. (family stuff) Others, as large as 500-600. (engagement and wedding clients)

AutoCAD LT :: PDF Print From Paper Space - Slow Preview Then Will Not Complete The PDF Plot

Sep 20, 2013

Have a dwg with two layouts sheets that print to  pdf in paper space - one layout works just fine the other NOT.

Both include one view port and a few small details as pdf underlays(@ 150 kb each) in the PAPER space layout.

The problem  sheet -  ran a very slow plot preview but it did complete a full view of the layout,  then when selected to do the plot it never completes the pdf.

I tried a pdf plot of the same area in MODEL space and it previews just fine and plots to a pdf just fine.

Photoshop :: Oil Paint Feature - Preview / No Preview Capability?

Sep 3, 2012

A feature notably absent from the Oil Paint filter is any way to temporarily disable the effect (e.g., not preview it).I happen to like using Oil Paint to make refllections in the surface of water smoother and more "liquid" (which involves turning off the "Shine"), and it would really be nice if I could easily gauge the amount of the effect easily by blinking back and forth between original and processed image with a quick "disable preview" functionality.

With most standard filters, one can either uncheck a [ ] Preview box, and/or click the mouse button down on the image to temporarily show what the image is like without the effect.Yes, I know I can turn the Stylization down to 0.1 and see how a very minimal amount of the effect can be  applied.  And I can look at the original image in Photoshop proper, but of course that can't be zoomed while the Oil Paint filter is active.

Also, the zooming / panning seems kind of stiffly implemented. In summary, the more or less standard and expected filter features I'd like to see added to this (new class of) GPU-accelerated filters are:Preview/No Preview capability.  It doesn't have to update Photoshop, just the preview display in the filter itself.  I suggest a [  ] Preview checkbox and/or an on-mouse-click temporary effect disable.

Modal click and drag Zooming vs. Panning - i.e., based on a Zoom or Pan function selected (e.g., via an icon along the left) vs. having to hold modifier keys down.  I personally would want it set to Zoom by default, not Pan.  Since the filter has scroll bars (a Good Thing), I would have thought Zoom would have been a better default as it is. I have implemented these things in my own GPU-accelerated plug-ins, so I know that all the infrastructure Adobe needs to support them is already in there.  These changes are controls only and should be trivial to implement.

I'm created a web page with a drag java script where people can move pictures with there mouse. I uploaded all the pictures to my picture hoster, put all the code in...and I've noticed that theres the matte around when the pictures got moved over another picture. so i went back into ps and put the matte to none..and it seemed to fix the problem until the pictures turned out all choppy.

is there any way to get the transparent gif with non choppy edges and without matte?

I've been searching the web and trying out numerous things is photoshop, but it just seems impossible.

is ps the right program to use? I tried paintshop pro...but it just seems more complicated than ps.

Photoshop :: Transparent Gifs ?

Jan 10, 2005

I am trying to make a transparent gif; basically I want white text on a transparent background. I have Photoshop and Illustrator when I make the image everything looks fine than I save for web and if you put the gif in front of a color (in HTML/IE) the text edges are blocky, it sort of looks like it is a low Res. however it is a normal res. like 72 or 96. The other interesting part is that if I save for web with a colored background it looks fine.

Photoshop :: GIFs & Transparency In PS 9

WHY in the world would I do such a thing? Well... to put it simply: BECAUSE NO WHERE ON THIS GOD FORSAKEN WEB are there any tutorials for creating TRANSPARENCY for GIFs in PHOTOSHOP CS:2.

After hours of searching I've all but given up hope. I keep trying every godforsaken thing I can and re-reading all the tutorials written for photoshop 5 and 6, and even the help files and online tutorials that adobe provides. NONE OF THE ABOVE have provided me with any REAL step by step information on how to successfully produce results.

In PS 5.5 to make a transparent GIF, you selected the color you wanted transparent from the palette of colors in the specific image. But I don't see how that's possible with the Save For Web in PS 6. Is it?

Thing is, what I need to do is mask around parts of the image, and than make the mask color transparent.

Lightroom :: Library Preview Displays At Lower Resolution Than Develop Preview

Jun 2, 2013

I recently bought a Nikon D7100. I took some test shots and imported the images to Lightroom 4.4, then generated 1:1 previews for all the images.

Previews zoomed to 1:1 in Library Mode are noticeably soft.  The image below is a screen shot of the Library preview:

Moving to Develop View produces a higher-resolution 1:1 preview.  The image below is a screen shot of the Develop preview:

Look at the bricks and window screens to see the difference.

This difference occurs immediately after import (with a User Preset applied during import).  Once any Develop work is done, the Library preview updates and displays at full resolution.

This problem makes doing initial editing/selection of images time consuming, because I can't determine the sharpness/quality of imported images until I've done some kind of Develop adjustment on each image.
