Paint.NET :: Crop To Selection Is Greyed Out?
Aug 15, 2012I am a novice to paint.net and would like to crop however the 'crop to selection' is greyed out.
View 1 RepliesI am a novice to paint.net and would like to crop however the 'crop to selection' is greyed out.
View 1 RepliesI have just installed paint.net as a first time user on Win 7. I inserted a .jpg file which I wanted to crop, but the crop button is greyed out. Also is there a way to search for multiple words in the search box? I tride a word + word but did not work.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSuddenly today when I use the "Section tool" on a photo and then 'Crop to Selection' a new image is produced of the cropped selection and the old image remains. I don't want this and it has never happened before in the years I have been using PSP.
I want the existing image to be cropped and then I will save it.
How I can reset the "Selection tool' to do what it has always done? BTW I had earlier today used the "Crop" tool and ever since the 'Selection tool' has been creating a new image.
Why is my Crop Tool's perspective option greyed out?
View 2 Replies View Relatedafter using the crop tool in Photoshop CS6, the Presets and RGB channels options are greyed out on the curves adjustment layer, IF that layer's Properties are displaying at the time. I find I can get the options back if I open and close Curves Display Options.
I am running Windows 7 x64, AMD Radeon HD 5800 with latest drivers (same problem with older drivers).
I am using PS5 with a MAcBook Pro (OS_X 10.7.5) with an Epson 3880 printer. The paper selection menu greys out Fine Art papers. I need to use those papers. Don't know how to fix this.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSome scanners require that you install special software or drivers so that they can be accessed by programs that use WIA to scan with them. Paint.NET uses WIA, and not TWAIN, to acquire images from scanners and cameras.
View 6 Replies View RelatedWhenever I use the Crop to Selection tool (with a rectangular selection), it doesn't actually crop TO the selection, it usually leaves an extra pixel on two edges.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using Photoshop Extended CS6. A new problem has started to occur recently. I can select a tool, but I can't change the tool type. For example,I can select the Lasso Tool and when I right-click the tool fly-out appears, but I cannot select a tool from the fly-out to change the tool type. The editing tools, at least the ones I can select, still work except for the selection and crop tools. For the crop tool, the crop lines appear at the edge of the image but they cannot be moved. For the selection tools, nothing is selected. I can still use menu commands such as Canvas Size.
This happens when I open a file or start a new file. I have Windows 7, 4G memory and nothing else running. I have tried 32-bt and 64-bit versions. This has happened intermittently for a month or two. In the past, freeing up space on a hard drive seemed to work. But now I have 50G free on one drive and 30G free on another so I don't see how that could be the problem. Rebooting allows me to use the crop tool once, but then the problem reoccurs.

I do repetitive editing where I use a rectangle select tool with a 7:10 ratio and use the Rule-of-Thirds grid. Sometime selecting the proper part of the bottom part of the image requires that top part of the Rule-of-Thirds grid lies quite a bit above (off the top of) the image. Then when I choose Crop to Selection, the top of the Rule-of-Thirds grid closes and the top of the selection snaps to the top of the image, which is not what I want.
How to make the top border of the image be at the same place as the top edge of the Rule-of-Thirds grid? If it makes any difference to the procedure, I want the border around the image to all be the default white.
I want to crop a whole selecton of pictures with the same aspect ratio. I shoot my pictures in 4:3 and I want to use Lightroom to crop them all for example to 16:9. So I have only to adjust the size and it's done!
I use Lightroom 4.4
I can't ungroup objects. This option has been greyed out.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to use the rect marquee tool to do a selection and then crop a photo but when I do nothing happens.
A couple of strange things have/are happening:
-At one point, while I was in transform selection I there was added space around the marquee, which became the new edge, as opposed to the marquee itself.
-The marquee is in the shape of a rounded rectangle.
Looking for a way to crop without actually looking for image / crop or using the keyboard. Paint Shop Pro 7 will crop with double click.

View 12 Replies View RelatedThis may or may not be an issue. If a crop size is set for a source image and "Crop As New Image" is clicked, the NEW cropped image will appear, however the Crop frame appears on the NEW image only scaled smaller. Is that normal? I'd not necessarily want to crop the NEW image a second time immediately afterward. This seems like strange, illogical behavior.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm having an infuriating problem with the crop tool. I click on the side bar to crop an image, set the ratio, then left click and hold on the image to either move the selection or expand/contract it and PSP crops the image before I can do anything.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am trying to edit a number of photos for a Ken Burns type travelogue, and that means I have to make all my color and other adjustments, and then edit to a common size (1280x720). This usually means resizing the photo which gives me the 1280, and then I need to pick which 720 of the image to include. With the rectangular select I can get close, but my mouse movement is usually too much to get exactly to 720, so I often end up having to resize again to drop/add a couple rows.
Is there some way to set a selection box to be a certain size so it could then be moved up and down in the image, and then crop the image when you have selected the portion you want?
Just to clarify, I know of the "Fixed Size" selection. But it is almost as impossible to get that lined up so that you get the full 1280 width as it is to get the bounding box dropped to exactly 720...
As an ex Photoshop user, there is a facility missing from PDN (or at least I can't find it!)
In Photoshop there was a tool which allowed me to type in a width and a height and a unit of measurement, for instance, 6, 4 and inches which would give me a 6x4 ratio image. I could then drag a rectangle across my image, and the crop box would remain in the correct ratio, making for very easy cropping when preparing images to be printed.
Is there a similar way in PDN to achieve this?
Having difficulty setting the CROP tool outlines. It seems to snap to the CENTER of pixels? and the edges are difficult to grab, especially when zoomed way in to the corners/pixel level. Also dragging the outline edges seems sluggish and I don't see four numerical readouts in the CORP tool palett like earlier Jasc versions.
p.s. I almost always crop to the hearest 5 pixels, i.e. 675x495.
PSP X4 does not save the last crop settings which I used. In older versions the program saved the last used settings (dimension of the crop frame in pixel) and this was a good thing. Now in version X4 this does not work anymore. Is there a setting to switch that on or is it a bug?
View 2 Replies View RelatedPSP is and has always been THE best graphics app with a truly intuitive interface and useful set of features & tools.
I have been using it for many, many years... sniffed around other products, but always returned, fully satisfied with what I can achieve. I've also written a suite of scripts to further enhance my use of it alongside my photography hobby.
HOWEVER... since Corel took it over and the start of the X series, there has been a serious and very annoying omission concerning the Crop tool. Previous versions up to v9 allowed the user to grab hold of the edges of the crop box ANYWHERE along ANY side, and drag/extend/reduce the size of the box. This allowed us photographers to zoom in to pixel level and grab any part of the visible box to adjust the crop dimensions very accurately. This is a very important feature for photographers.
The new X interface has changed the crop box to 'vector node handles' only for adjustment, which are not always visible when zoomed in. This means that instead of being able to align the box accurately to an image feature or row of pixels, you have to zoom out until you can find the nearest handle to use, or scroll up/down left/right, which either takes you away from the area you want to work on, or zoom too far out to see the detail you want for alignment.
option/preference to ditch the vector handles and grab the sides as before. I know you may think it a backward step, but you've taken away the very function that photographers need for cropping a composition, which is available in other products.
I am PaintShop beginner.
When I tried to crop picture, I couldn't find option to crop through a rounded (circle) shape (just rectangle seems to be avalilable).
1) How to crop using rounded shape?
2) After crop rounded, how to save just the rounded picture? Its because when I use Photoscape (I come from this software) it crop rounded, but save with a white retangle background? So I just want the rounded picture
I want to take my out of camera image, which is at 314ppi at about 9x12 and crop it to 8x10 at 300ppi. But, when I go to the crop tool, and click 8x10 preset, the resolution is set at 72ppi, and i can't see how to change that. So, the preset crop tool gives an outline of the crop area that is very small. The picture itself when it comes up is something like 33 " x 38" at 72ppi. If I go into resize image, it gets time consuming; you'd think I could just select the 8x10 preset at 300ppi and get a file that is about 2400 x 3000 ppi....8x10, 300ppi.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI created some crop preset sizes that I no longer need, but I can't figure out how to remove them from the dropdown list of crop sizes. Reset to Default doesn't refresh the list.

I've been using x4 for several months, and in the past few weeks I've been encountering strange artifacts of the Crop tool. If I move the crop rectangle, it sometimes (but not always: see below) leaves a black line or lines of varying thickness where the rectangle had been. Here are a few possible clues:
- It appears to happen only with images that contain layers.
- An F5 refresh does not get rid of the artifacts.
- Flattening the image does.
- It appears, I think, to occur only when moving the crop rectangle (not resizing), but I won't swear to that.
- I have on at least one occasion been able to save the file with the lines as part of the image.
