Maya Animation :: How To Proxy A Joint
Sep 12, 2011How to proxy a joint?

View 2 RepliesIn maya 2012 n 13...the end joint not matching to parent joint...
after creating leg joints are spine joints...we set the orientation of joints..but last joint wil put NONE in option box right....after applying this the end joint orientation still in world axis instead of parent joint..
is this bug are is there any other option(other then jointOrientaion in the joint attributes)..
What I have is a Rig that has two Handles that control a joint chain each and I was wondering if there was any way to Converge both changes into the Joint in the center, because what i am trying to create is a dynamic bead loop. With it as it is the bones facing down are fine, but the ones facing upward falls to the "Floor".
Is there anyway that I can accomplish this or an easier to do this?
how to select joint hierarchy with the script
Ex : if we have 10 joints in the scene i want to select the whole hierarchy with script Or if i select 1st joint, then i want select remaining child joints with the script(listRelatives Or listConnecttion).
it seems that i've got myself stuck on the eyelids. I've made a Stickman for animation training because animating interests me. After rigging the whole body and creating the face controls i bumped into a problem i just can't solve. That problem is the eyelids. I've been trying to animate the eyelids to close and to open.
Big problem = Eyes,
they are to big and stick out a lot which prevents the eyelids to close correctly. I've been wondering how they do this in movies and games where they have big eyes but the eyelids close perfectly
how do you adjust the rotation axis of a joint. Attached is what am talking about.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using maya 2012 32bit on windows.
I've painstakingly oriented all the joints in my human ik skeleton and then saved the file out as a backup. When I reload the file and go to component mode to view the joint orientations they are all messed up again. I've gone through this process twice with the same results.
So I am trying to set up a mouth rig using joints. How would i go about smoothing my mesh, and still be able to go back and edit the joint weights without having to deal with a ridiculous amount of polygons?
[URL]....
This video kind of shows what i am looking for, the guy is editing a minecraft character rig he has. At around 4:30, you can see him editing the skin weights on a low-poly mesh, even though he tested adjusting the shape of the mouth when the geometry was in a smooth state, the video is timelapse so its very hard to tell what he did to achieve this. Note that he is also not redering in mental ray, so he is not just using smooth mesh preview.
I am trying to rig a character, and when I place the bones with the joint toot they are very small. So I went into the tool settings and upsized the radius for all of the types of bones. But then when I go to make the bone again it is still the same small size.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with making joints in Maya 2013. When I use joint tools and try to make a chain, it won't connect and goes in random direction. I've attached the screenshot. I've just started using Maya.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to know after rigging why should i orient joint in the attribute editor using the channel "joint orientation". Because i can easily fix the rotational axis after rotating the bone and freezing transformation.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAny way to do the skin conversion to muscle system WITHOUT converting every single joint to a polygon bone object. I'd prefer to manually create the muscle bone objects from only the joints I plan to use for the muscle system, and then do the skin conversion using only those joints already converted. Basically, I only need a few muscles in this system and therefore only need a few polygon bone objects, but as far I can tell, there is only one way to do the skin conversion and it automatically converts every joint that the skin is attached to.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen setting up a simple FK control curve on say the wrist for example, many times the control curve isn't exactly perpendicular to the local rotation axis of the joint movement, so when we position the control curve to be perpendicular to the joint - it has a rotational value added, but the rotational handles are lines up with the rotational handles of the joint that we want to move.
Freeze Transformations: then the control curves rotational handle go back to being skewed (out of alignment with the joints)
We want to Freeze transformations before constraining the curve, but we'd really to keep those rotations control handles to remain aligned with the joints rotational handles. This will make it an exact control when animating - grab the rotational handle of the curve, rotate it, and the joint will move exactly in the proper direction.
how to get the rotational handle of any control curve to run perpendicular to the shape after freezing transformations?
I'm trying to set up a rig of telescoping masts where the smallest mast extends completely before pulling the next mast which extends completely before pulling the next, etc. I'm having a really hard time figuring out how to set it up properly. I want an easy way to do this as I have many different mast sets to animate.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm rigging a vehicle that doesn't quite behave like a typical train or truck trailer. And I have a question for the coupling. The rotations I want are best illustrated in the attached photo. I want to have a single axis (Y-axis) rotate where the coupling joins the cab and the trailer, and in the center of the coupling, I want to be able to rotate along the X and Z axes, but not the Y. Does that make sense?
A flexible sheathe will cover the actual coupling, so I've been using bones to try to do this which the sheathe will be skinned with. I just haven't created a rig that actually bends the way I want it to yet.
I'm using Max 2012, and I wonder if there's a simple way to create an object that, when selected, would select a different specified object in the scene.
I'll explain the situation. I'd like to make a series of spline drawings in the shape of my rig, basically creating a simplified drawing of a skeleton, and then be able to click on, for example, the upper leg of this simplified drawing, and have the actual upper leg bone within the rig itself become selected.
Ideally, I'd like for the spline drawing I clicked to be unselected after I click it, leaving only the bone it represents selected. In essence, I want to make a group of "buttons" that can be used to select bones and helpers within a rig.
I'm trying to render some passes in Maya 2013 and Mental Ray using proxy assemblies. The trouble is that none of the passes that do some kind of material definition override ie AO, camera depth work correctly with proxies. I have read a few posts where people have said that these passes need to be applied in the render globals when exporting the proxy file. This method works correctly in Maya 2009 and fixes the issues, unfortuently this method does not work in Maya 2013.

HD 3000 integrated graphics
OS is installed on a 128 MB SSD
Project target file is on a 500GB WD Blue.
I have ripped a Blue Ray DVD as an .m2t, at an average bit rate of about 18.5 Mb/sec, with a resulting file size of over 16GB. Needles to say this file bogs the machine when not running the proxy. When I finish a session and close the program, the proxy file is gone the next time I open the project. The same thing happens when the machine goes to sleep with the project open. I have to either slog through working directly on the project without the proxy while it slowly rebuilds, or wait a couple of hours for the rebuild to complete.
Any way to stop the file from being deleted? I went to power options and selected never, but the next day it was gone again.
Another thing would be to increase the speed of the proxy creation, as it only uses about 20% of the CPU. Better to get it done faster... I have tried raising the priority of the process to high with little if any change.
I have rigged a character and made it into a character set in which i have locked the scaling attribute , I have then saved this file. I have then referenced this file and and have done a walk cycle animation and saved this file. I have then realised that I needed the scaling attribute when I have added other parts of my scene. Is there a way to unlock the scaling attribute in my walk cycle animation file or will i have to go back and change it in the rigged file, create a new character set and do the walk cycle animation again?
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy current scene has 10 animation layers for a character, and seeing every f-curve from all layers, although grey and locked, when I only need to see the f-curves in layer I'm working on is really cluttering the graph editor. My current work around is selecting my active layer in the Layer Editor every time I select a rig control. Simple enough, but a pretty inefficient way of working. I can't seem to find a setting that allows me to just see ONLY the fcurves in the active layer. I imagine some of you out there may have hundreds of animations for a single game character.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to animate a moving rope based on simulation data. I know how to import my motion data for individual objects.I've seen lots of tutorials where one uses simulations or soft bodies with IK in order to create a rope. how to use all these features and I want the rope to follow my coordinates exactly. I was hoping I could do something like the following:
1. create points in Maya which correspond to my data points
2. connect the points with a curve
3. loft a circle using the curve as a path in order to make a rope
4. move the points. due to History, the rope position is updated
Is there a way to do something like this in Maya? I've tried, and it looks like ep points do not have key-able channel data, so I can't create animations for them separately. I'm using .mov data file imports to generate x, y, and z motion keys for the points.
I have an assignment for a class where part of the final project is detailing the construction of a mold for a part. The animation that I would like to do would show the build up of the part in a 3D printer layer by layer. The closest method of animating this that I can think of is unfortunately backwards.
As I would have the part and a camera facing up from the bottom of the part and would have a plane that would recede upwards in the y direction. This would reveal the part as the plane translates in the y direction.
This might be okay, but the problem is that I would like to show this from a camera on top facing down instead of a camera on bottom facing up. How I can create the look of a part being built up in this additive method?
I am trying to add an expression to the standard Mudbox car to make the wheels turn when the vehicle moves in both the X & Z dimension. I have found many scripts that let me do this in a single dimension. I have found some others that claim to work for both dimensions, but at certain angles the wheels turn in the wrong direction.
My work flow is as follows:
1 - Export car from Mudbox to Maya
2 - Separate the wheels & center pivot all items
3 - Add NurbsCurves to create a rig
4 - Parenting the elements of the car
5 - Add an expression based on this web post [URL].......
6 - Test the animation
It works great when translating the car in the Z axis, but when the car is rotated 95 degrees in the Y axis the wheel will only go backwards no matter which direction the car is moved.
I have attached an MB (Maya 2013) so you can see the

translate facial motion capturing data (basically 2d point clouds) to blendshape weights. I finished rigging my character and wanted to drive my blendshapes by the relative position of my tracking data, e.g. distance between corners of the mouth drive the "wide" blendshape and so on...
Hope YOU know a solution for this, I believe blendshapes are THE way to create realism in tracked animation but I was not able to find ANY reference to something like that. I'd like it to be customizable and not to expensive, so the imagemetrics faceware service won't do for me
How come baking some part of animation in graph editor deletes everything before and after the part i bake and how can i bake that part while leaving the rest untouched?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a character with animation. Another character is the same(same bones, meshes), but with no animation, 100 times larger in size and I resize the head to make the head looks slimmer. They are saved in different fbx files and I imported them into mb scenes. I select the root bone and "select hierarchy", the export options is shown below. Then select in the same way in the larger character's scene, the importer options is shown below. THE PROBLEM is: after I import the atom, the character becomes shrinked to the same size as the former one and the ratio of head becomes the same as the former one too.
View 1 Replies View RelatedFor some scenes we have a chain which is wrapped around several cogs, just like a bicycle. In this scenario we need the chain links to follow the path and retain their relationship to each other.
In other scenes we have a chain which follows along a changing path. Imagine this if you can: A heavy weight has a chain attached which goes vertically up, over a pulley and down the other side where it is attached to a lorry. The lorry drives off pulling the weight upwards. This is my challenge!
Should I individually constrain the links using a Pin constraint and use dynamics completely to keep the chain taught?
Was wondering if there is a way of getting random camera movements? For example, i am doing a fly through of an earthquake scene and as the camera animates along the street it randomly shakes with the earthquake shocks.
I know I could animate it by hand but I wondered if there was a way (perhaps an expression) to make it more simple?
I have made a 3d Spectrum analyser , its made of rectangular boxes 16 rows and 16 boxes in each row.
So i have made my cam from Bottom Left corner to Top Right over 96 Frames.
What i need to do, is make some of the blocks disappear and re appear as the cam pans across.
In sketchup i did it by HIDEING the component (block), make new scene, then un hide it..
I want to key frame animate something to go in a straight line but it seems to start out slowly, speed up, and then slow down again at the end. Is there a way to make it so the object moves the same speed throughout?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an animation layer that I have exported and Im trying to import it into a new file and then merge it down to the base layer.
what ends up happening is that when I do the merge i get two additional layers. and the layer with the animation stays there. and nothing gets baked. the animation stays in the imported layer.
I should be able to import/export animation layers right?
