Lightroom :: Keep Keywords And Other Metadata When Import Images?

Apr 30, 2013

I'm creating a catalog with images from a group of photographers. Their image files already include metadata. I want that metadata to be imported with the images so I have the keywords, captions and other info that the photographers have already added to them.

I'm using Lightroom 4

Lightroom :: How To Select Multiple Keywords To Add To Images Without Keywords Collection

Aug 1, 2012

Lightroom has a collection containing all images without keywords.

As soon as I apply a keyword to images they instantly disappear from the collection. This is alright when I only want to apply a single keyword, but how do I stop it happening when I want to apply multiple keywords to the same image(s)?

Lightroom :: Updating / Sharing Keywords And Metadata In 4?

May 6, 2013

add keywords & metadata to an extremely large group of photos in Lightroom 4. The intern will have their own workstation so we'll be passing files back and forth. I need to add their work to mine, keeping all of the keyword/metadata work tied to the virtual photos which already have some work done to them (some keywords, metatdata and photo enhancements already in place on some photos).

Lightroom :: Importing Keywords - Missing In Metadata

Mar 2, 2013

I want to import a plug-in list of Keywords into Ligtroom 4.  However - as described in Lightroom support - in Library under Metadata, I do not see the option for "Importing Keywords." I do see Keywording and Keywrod List, but there does not appear to be anywhere here to add an entire list with heirarchy levels.  What am I missing?

Lightroom :: How To Import Jpg In LR5 (cc) Without Keywords

Mar 17, 2014

When I import jpg photos Lightroom automatically also imports all keywords. How can I stop this? The reason I don't want them is that I actually want to re-do all of my keywords/imports. I know it's a big pain, but I feel that it needs to be done, as I've learned how to do things more properly (in theory).

Lightroom :: Add Keywords From Folder Names During Import

May 21, 2013

I am new to LightRoom and am about to import more than 600 folders. These folders on the disc have names that relate to the content, and I was wondering if it is possible to add the folder names as keywords during import?

So if a photo is in /Weddings/New York/Chris and Charlie Hansen it would be tagged with 'Weddings, New York, Chris and Charlie Hansen' as keywords during import.

Naturally I would like this to happen dynamically so when import hundreds of folders in one go, the keywords are assigned as relevant. should I do it manually after import (which is of course possible, but quite a bit of work).

Lightroom :: Checkbox Setting For How To Import Keywords

Jan 8, 2013

I just duplicated a bunch keywords upon importing a month worth of photos from a remote project.   I assume this is because LR has no idea how to handle them other than importing them in a flattened state.  I suggest a checkbox that tells LR whether or not to look for an existing keyword of the same spelling in its structures before creating another one.  If it then finds multiples, it would be easy enough for it to figure out the correct keyword based on context.

I have many nested keywords and have found the nesting to be pretty much useless in the real world, but it is a great organizational tool.   It allows about the same grouping functionality as collections but without the messy accumulation of collection names that were only used once.

Lightroom :: Migrating Keywords From Bridge - Import XMP Along With Files

Dec 11, 2013

I'm finally incorporating LR to my Bridge / ACR / PS workflow.I have a very detailed keyword tree that I use in Bridge. This tree is organized in a hierarchical manner, and some of the keywords have synonyms or in case of taxonomy, common and latin names separeted by " ;"

I imported the keyword list into LR and also selected the option to import the xmp along with the files. The problem is that LR is now creating a new keyword for every word I have in the list!

I think one of the issues is that ";"  is an illegal caracter in LR, but I'm not sure how to fix it without having to rewrite the entire thing. Also, is this  the only issue?

Changing the keyword list only will not fix it because I have thousands of images with these keywords already, and it would be impossible to redo them all.

My plan is to fix this and delete everything from the catalog before I import the files again.

Lightroom :: Keyword Synonyms Created As New Keywords On Import

Feb 6, 2013

I just exported a large batch of images sized for submission to Alamy.  I had the images that were created by the export, imported back into Lightroom.

The problem.  All the keyword synonyms that were exported in the images, created new stand alone keywords in the keyword list - bad.

I had all my keywords nicely organized into 12 neat groups.  Now I have a couple of hundred top level keywords because of the synonyms.

Can this be prevented?

Lightroom :: Why Doesn't Add Camera To Keywords For Images

Oct 25, 2012

I used to use Photoshop Elements and that adds a keyword to its catalog showing which camera took the image. Lightroom doesn't seem to do this. Lightroom :: Display Of Keywords For Multiple Images Error In LR5

Jun 17, 2013

In LR5, when two images are selected in Library view, the results in the Keyword Tags panel are incomplete. In my instance, two images were selected. They have some common keywords and those are properly displayed. However, the keywords assigned to only one image appeared with an asterisk in previous versions of LR, a behavior I would like to see continue.

In my instance, one keyword for, we'll say, Image A only, appears but with no asterisk, it should display an asterisk. And, one keyword unique to Image B does not appear at all when both images have been selected, it too should appear with an asterisk.

I'm on a Mac running 10.8.4 and LR CC.

Lightroom :: Auto Import Metadata - Get LR To Read XMP File?

Sep 15, 2013

I shot using an eye-fi card. The card autmatically generates a xmp file with geodata in it. LR auto imports these images and adds lens correction and a copy right tag.

What I can't do is automatically is get LR to read the xmp file and include this in the catalogue. I am having to right click images and select read metadata from file.

There must be a better work flow then this.

Lightroom :: Import Legacy Metadata From A Text File?

Jan 21, 2013

For over 15 years I've been using a cataloging system written in VB6, as the writing is well and truly on the wall for VB6 I'm considereing moving to LR, but it's not clear if I can import all the existing data.

The data is not embedded in the images for the most part because we are talking old 5x4 neg scans etc.

I have access to the source code of my existing program and can therefore export the database fields in any format, CSV being the most obvious choice but I suppose I can write the code to export to anything.

So my question is, is there a mechanism to import such data, either when the photos are originally imported or assign the data to them post-import. And please don't suggest cut & paste, there's 20,000 pics
