Lightroom :: How To Search And Sort By File Size

View 2 RepliesHaving problems with the updated new file dialog and I'm not talking personal problems. I switched it to detail view and widened up the name column so I could see the whole name. I could actually live with that setup however the next time I opened the new file dialog all the columns returned to their default size and the sort also reverted.
Is it just me or does the new file dialog not remember any changes to it's layout?
When I import, LR for some reasons seems to always default the sort to added order, not filename. Its a real nuisance, anything I can do.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm using Lightroom 5.2RC. Not sure if this started happening with the 5.2RC version or if it's been an issue for a while.
While in Library mode, when I choose a library search filter preset, say all 5 stars, and then toggle the filter off and on again, the search criteria randomizes to something wildly different than what I was just searching for, for example, adding text and metadata to the search queries when I only had star attributes selected a few seconds before.
I've experimented with turning the filter lock icon on and off and that seems to have no effect. Switching between folders in my catalog and toggling search off and on, results in the same random search criteria being generated.
Lightroom 4.2 – the situation is this, I have a number of pictures of group shots with many people. I tag each person in each photo. I show my photos to these people and they would like a print of photos with them in it. I am an amature photographer currently located in India where most people have no cameras, so I normally oblige if someone wants my of them pictures printed. On one such occasion I took a week long trip with some friends. After showing them the pictures I tagged “Print for Raju”, “Print for Priya”, “Print for Varun”. The problem arises now when I try to search keywords in the “contains all” section, “print for varun” doesn’t do an exact search. Rather if Raju wanted a picture of Varun printed, that picture would have the tag “Varun” and “print for Raju” and which would make the photo included in my search “print for varun” even if varun doesn’t want the picture.
Is there a way to search EXACTLY what I type? If my picture has 15 tags, “contains all” will search all those tags and if it can piece together the three words I am searching for out of all of the tags, it will reveal results inconsistent with my desires.I realize now that I could use collections instead of tags for compiling pictures to print for people.
Search results in LIGHTROOM exported as text file.
I want to seach LIGHTROOM and then get a text file of the results of a search. I find noting on this.

I have many pictures (about 10'000). Now i need a search (smart search) with pictures where only my mother (is marked)
On all my pictures each person is tagged. For my mother the Person Tag is called "mother"
I created a saved search with the criteria Person include "mother". The problem now is that also pictures are shown with my mother and other persons. But i would like only pictures from my mother without other persons. Something like... "Person is mother and not person "sister" and not person "friends" etc.
Surely this is possible, but I've yet to figure out a way to do this. Can it be done?It would make it much easier to review/scan your library contents.

View 8 Replies View RelatedIs there any method to sort sketch blocks in a part file? All of our sketch blocks are numbered with a profile number. When we create a new multi-body assembly we will often derive 50-100 of them into the master file. It would be great if we could sort them by profile number.
The next best solution would be the ability to create sub-folders to place them in by type (sort of like assembly folders), but I'm pretty sure this isn't possible.
I was *so* hoping that we'd finally be able to filter (or create a Smart Collection) based upon file size.
There are many reasons why this would be useful but the thing that trips me up every once in a while is that I'll forget to flatten my layers in Photoshop and the resulting tiff could be over 500 MB! Everyone once in a while I'll manually find the large files, flatten the layers, then re-import them into LR - in the specific case I mentioned the file was reduced to 17MB.
I am running LR3.5 on an iMac. I created a slideshow yesterday that contained 40 images, and exported as a PDF.When I emailed it to three friends and myself, it bounced (too large) from three of the four friends I sent it to.
How do you check the file size of a PDF slideshow? how to share a slideshow without bumping info size limitations?
LR 5 shows them as 16mb files. PS CC shows them as 91mb files. Finder shows one as 95mb and the other as 234mb.
I'm pretty new to LR and have been doing LR editing and then using NIK plugins or Perfect Photo Suite and sometimes PS, always saving them back to LR and printing in LR. Often I wind up with 3 or 4 files. Part of this is because after printing , I export the file to my "printed" folder which allows me to easily find all I feel were good enough to actually print at some later date. I'm sure some of this is that I still am not completely trusting LR because I'm still surprised with things like this from time to time... I'll get there.
But how can I figure out why these file sizes are so disparate?
In lighroom 4 my image shows as being 9.9 MP. In mac finder it shows as being 59.2 MP.

In LR5 I wish to sort by file name. However my camera names files as ABC123, ABC124, ABC125 etc etc. Lightroom sorts such names as ABC3, ABC2, ABC5 etc because the numeral part of the name is looked as as an ascii not a numeral. I think!!
However whatever the reason, sorting such file names doesn't work. As each import may consist of several hundred files, renaming manually to avoid numerals isn't an option.
Is there a naming system that can be automated that would result in this type of sorting resulting in what a human would expect?
Filenames such as Garden(1), Garden(2) etc are no better by the way.
I would like to be able to sort a set of photos by those that have Develop Adjustments and those that do not. For now, I don't want to sort by the type of adjustment.....just whether or not an image has one.

So I looked at some reviews of lightroom. Can I sort/rearrange my photos. And how. As the folder is 30gb big with subfolders and subfolder in that. Most of the 30gb is duplicates.I want to have it sorted by date. I can always manually change a folder name. But need to get rid of the duplicates and have it sorted.I downloaded the trial, and tried to import photos. But is get to 199 pics and then it stops.
I have just downloaded a batch of images into LRM 5 - with earlier versions in 'Library' I have been able to go quickly through all the images using P or X.
I have just found that in 5 when P or X are used, the image either shoots to the start or the end of the group. So to move on to the next image you have to sort back to where you were previously - this is a real PAIN and makes a mockery of Quick Sorting'
i am using a PC with Windows 7 - upgraded from LRM 4 - at the moment everything else seem to be working OK!
The default always seems to be by capture time and I often rearrange and rename slides.
I have searched the menus but how do I get the slideshow to sort by filename, not capture date?
In the thumbnail view the newest pics are at the bottom, the oldest at the top. But in my list of folders on the left panel, they're sorted by name, and I get figure out how to sort that list of folders so the newest ones are at the top. Like it is in Picasa basically. How do I perform this elementary sorting operation?
View 27 Replies View RelatedI'm using nested Collection Sets and Collections in LR 3.4 to manage image selections for a large book project. I'd like to create web galleries from groups of images (a Collection Set) to share with others working on the project.
Is there a way to have LR sort the images in a Collection Set (all lower level sets and collections) by the collection and/or set name? When I display the top level Collection Set all the images show up sorted by file name. I can change that to any of the sort options under View | Sort but none of those are at all useful.
Here's the tree structure of part of the Collection Set (these are all Latin plant names):
Rosaceae [collection set]
|
--- Rubus [collection set]
| |
| --- Rubus arcticus [collection]
| --- Rubus armeniacus [collection]
| --- Rubus chamaemorus [collection]
| --- Rubus idaeus [collection]
| --- etc.
--- Sorbus [collection set]
|
--- Sorbus acuparia [colleciton]
--- Sorbus scopulina [collection]
--- Sorbus sitchensis [collection]
I'd like to sort all the Rubus images together, in named sequence by Collection, and then within each Collection sorted by file name. Then all the Sorbus, etc.
Am I missing something in how Collections work? Is there a way to sort within a Collection Set as I need to?
I don't mind starting with a sort by name or time added. But then I'd like to move a few around. I'm going to make a web gallery, and sometimes want to tweak the order of presentation. is this possible?
View 7 Replies View RelatedVery large DNG files from the new X100S camera?
I am importing raw files from the X100S, converting them to DNG files, and they come out at around 55Mbytes per picture. When the quicker startup info and the Raw file is included in the DNG file, the size goes up to around 70Mbytes.
Specific environment: OS X latest version 10.8.4, iMac about 3yrs old.
After scanning a silde as a TIFF, when I import into the Lightroom library the file size is only about 1/6th the size of the file scanned onto my hard drive. A 50MB scan becomes an 8MB LR file. If I take the file into Photoshop it is still 50MB. I tried saving the photoshop file with a different name and then bringing into LR but it still ends up at 8MB. I get the same problem using both VueScan 9.0.90 and Silverfast 8.0 scanning software. How do I keep the original file size?
LR4.3 is up to date
OS-X 10.8.2 is up to date

Imaging software is VueScan 9.0.90 and Silverfast Ai Studio 8
