I can't delete pics from disk. Error say finder doesn not support the volume. Using ext. hard drive and not in collection. New macbook pro with LR 4. Never experienced this problem on PC with LR 3. It appears this is a problem for other users.

View 16 Replies View RelatedLightroom can't send items to trash when deleting files on an external drive if the trash bin is empty for the relevant drive on OSX Lion. This was in LR3 and now in 4. You can get round this by making sure the trash is not emptied after deleting a random file or folder but there has to be a better way!
Also it seems to be a lightroom problem more than OS as Bridge can delete the files with no problem.
When exporting images LR no longer recognizes my hard drive or external hard drive, only sees the desk top icon. I tried a new catalog and an old catalog and still the same.
View 4 Replies View RelatedSomehow I ended up with three catalogs in LR 4 -- Catalog.lrcat, Catalog-2.lrcat and Catalog-3.lrcat. My original catalog in LR3 was Catalog.lrcat. When I upgraded to LR4, Catalog-2.lrcat was created, and this is the catalog that I use. I'm not sure how Catalog-3 was created, but all of the images are grayed out and have question marks on them.
I would like to free up some space on my hard drive by getting rid of -- deleting -- Catalog (104MB) and Catalog-3 (103MB). Is this not recommended? And exactly how do I go about deleting a catalog?
Any easy way to select all my unflagged (unpicked) images and then delete them from the hard drive in LR4.
For example, I recently shot over 400 images of sports for a local paper, and after editing and saving the JPGs for publicaation, I only want to keep about 30 images as Raw files. These were all "picked" (flagged) some of them were given colour labels.
I tried selecting them and then inverting the selection to show the unflagged ones for deletion, but this didn't work.
deleting many photos at once. I have far to many bad shots I want out of Photoshop and off my hard drive too.

No change in elements version (10). how to move my pictures from my computer hard drive to an external hard drive (this will NOT be a back up) but the primary locaton for my pictures. I will keep elements program on my computer and when I want to work on my pictures or download more pictures from my camera I will connect to the external hard drive.

I opened Lightroom.
Noticed there was a question mark by the photo folder I needed.
I synchronized the folders. Nada.
I rememebered I moved the images (first line ^^)
I re-imported the images from the external drive into Lightroom.
These images (other than one that was marked previously with a blue label) look completely untouched - completely original files - even though I spent hours working on them.
I am glad the images weren't deleted BUT re-doing 600 images will be a MAJOR FAIL if I can't figure out how to import the images with the settings / developments I did beforehand.
I have my LR library and catalog on an external hard drive. I have a new iMac with a 3TB hard drive and I want to move the library and catalog from the external drive to the computer's hard drive. Is this something that can be done with a drag and drop?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have just had a new 1TB internal hard drive installed in my PC and then the original smaller internal 500GB hard drive cloned onto it. The new 1TB is now Local Dick C and the smaller 500GB has been changed from C and is now Local Disk F. PSE11 is running from the new C and all my pictures are on both C and F but the catalogue is pointing to F. I want to delete all of the old files on F to free up space since they are all cloned to the new 1TB C, so I want the PSE11 catalogue to point only to the pictures on C. I have tried creating a new Catalogue and importing my pictures from C. The images come in and look connected to C but, when I close PSE11 and then reopen that new catalogue, the image path reads F, as does the original catalogue. So, now I have two catalogues apparently point to F but I want to: 1) have only one catalogue pointing to C; 2) the delete catalogues pointing to F; 3) then reformat F: so I have a clean 500GB old hard drive for future expansion.

Is there a way to do it? So as soon as I return home, I connect my hard drive to the desk top and work with it, etc.
When I first installed LR4, I used an external HD, which I called Photo Library, for all my images. I also had a second Ext. HD, which I called Photo Library Backup. Unfortunately, Photo Library crashed. I have now replaced it with another, which I now call New Photo Library. For many of my images in LR, when I access them, I get the message that they are either missing or offline.
My question: I now want LR to find ALL my images on New Photo Library. There are 4 folders which I recently downloaded, which are on New Photo Library, but most are not. Many are on Photo Library Backup, and those LR can find. But I'd still like them all to point to New Photo Library.
All the images that are in LR are now in the HD called New Photo Library.
What is the advantage of publishing to hard drive. Why not just export to hard drive?

I was running out of room, so I moved the photos to an external drive and removed them from my lap top. When I go to look them up in LR, it can see most of my photos, but not the ones I had worked on previously in LR. I ca see these photos in Finder, but I cannot get LR to 'see" them. What do I do?

At the momeent I am using the Drobo as back up until the 3tb becomes full. That time has come and I want to use the Drobo as the main drive for my images which contains exactly the same files as the 3tb. I also copied the catalog file onto the Drobo so I thought that all I needed to do is open the catalog in the Drobo and it will automatically access the files in the drobo drive but this is not the case as it still accesses the 3tb files. Can I delete the catalogue and reorganize my hard drive the way I want it then re - import it all to LR? If so how do I do this. I want to add an external HDD. From what I have read already, I am supposed to import the photos to my new drive, no problem with that. I also don't want a new catalogue.
Question. Let's say the newly added extenal drive is not connected and i want to search from some pictures, let's say of my one son, Gideon. But I know I have pictures of him on both drives, will LR tell me to connect the external drive also? Does it keep track of where my pictures are in such a way that it can tell me which drive to connect, should it happen that I later on have 2 external drives?
I have just recently replaced the hard drive on my IMac. All files and applications have been re-installed from the time machine back up drive. LR shows up on the dock but when I open it it comes up with:"The Lightroom catalog named “Lightroom 3 Catalog” cannot be opened because another application already has it opened" and "Quit the other copy of Lightroom before trying to launch."
Do I have to reinstall LR3 from the LR DVD? I do not want to use loose the catalog structure and edit info.
I'd like to have access to my photos and catalog from both my laptop and my desktop computers. Will this work if I put Lightroom 5 on an external hard drive?

I don't have Lightroom doing anything in the background like building thumbnails, but instead is just sitting idle there for hours. When I close LR, it stops imediately.
