L/R 4 shows my folders and subfolders but oddly, when I go to folder 2012 on my hard drive, it shows 25,000 images loose in the folder, no subfolders. I did move these folders to an external drive and then put them back. Maybe that messed things up.
View 1 Repliesonly have 200 photos in V4. I made the mistake of moving and deleting folders on my hard drive and not in LR, now my folder organization is a mess and doesn't match. Can I delete the catalogue and reorganize my hard drive the way I want it then re - import it all to LR? If so how do I do this. Does this remove the folder organization in LR, as it is not correct either. My catalogue has not been backed up yet. I have HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook and Win 7.?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded my external hard drive and named the new drive with the exact same name as the original, lets call this HD-1. My entire LR gallery is on this drive. After doing a complete backup to the new drive I opened LR and all Folders and Collects were in their place as they should be.
The Problem -
When I imputed new photos, a new duplicate hard drive appeared with the exact same name HD-1 and holding the newly imported images (which were placed in a subfolder at time of import)
- So now my Catalog shows two hard drives called HD-1. For sake of this discussion I will label them HD-1a and HD-1b. HD-1a has the original photos and HD-1b has the newly imported photos.
- I tried draging the new subfolder of photos for HD-1b to HD-1a but I get a message that the folder already exists, even though it doesn't show in the HD-1a folder structure.
- I created a new sub-folder in HD-1a and was able to drag the photos into it. I then deleted the empty folder on HD-1b. As soon as this was done the duplicate hard drive, HD-1b disapeared.
- I thought this solved the problem but as I was working on images by opening them from LR into Photoshop, the HD-1b drive reappered in my catalog with the PS created files in them.
- So it looks like LR will put any newly created or improted photo file into HD-1b. I can't seem to find a way around this. For some reason LR doesn't want to write new files into HD-1a even though it recognizes it and has no problem reading the existing files.
I bachup with an external hard drive(ehd), itcotains folders fro 2007 to 2013 plus a "test"folder. when i plug it into my computer and open light room,in the left hand pannel where the ehd appears, it shows all the folders except 2009 ,2013 and the "test" folder. why doesn't L.R. read all of the ehd.,,
View 4 Replies View Related(I'm using Corel Video Studio Pro X2. ) My video projects exceed 4.7 GB, so I've tried to "create DVD folders" to the hard drive so that I can run them through DVD Shrink. However, Studio Pro prevents this, with a pop up warning that the project exceeds DVD capacity, and allows no option for rendering it solely to the hard disk. (I have deselected "Create Disc")
Is there a way to save/render large DVD folders to the hard drive with this software?

I opened Lightroom.
Noticed there was a question mark by the photo folder I needed.
I synchronized the folders. Nada.
I rememebered I moved the images (first line ^^)
I re-imported the images from the external drive into Lightroom.
These images (other than one that was marked previously with a blue label) look completely untouched - completely original files - even though I spent hours working on them.
I am glad the images weren't deleted BUT re-doing 600 images will be a MAJOR FAIL if I can't figure out how to import the images with the settings / developments I did beforehand.
I have my LR library and catalog on an external hard drive. I have a new iMac with a 3TB hard drive and I want to move the library and catalog from the external drive to the computer's hard drive. Is this something that can be done with a drag and drop?

How do I move numerous folders and subfolders of photos to a different hard drive?
The hard drive I want to move to shows up in the LR Library Left Panel under Folders, but I can't drag and drop the photos from the C Drive to this D drive.
I have been working with LR for about a month; and I've uploaded about 2000 photos I have taken since about a year ago; organized by folders for year and date. I just realized LR has been putting almost all my photos on my C Drive. There is one folder of photos in LR on the D Drive. I don't recall how I got that folder to go on the D Drive while the rest are on the C Drive.
I don't want any data on my C Drive. I use my C Drive primarily for my Operating Systems and applications.
I have my desktop and laptop with LR5 CC.
How do I configure a unique catalog in order to be used in both computers?
Is there a way to do it? So as soon as I return home, I connect my hard drive to the desk top and work with it, etc.
When I first installed LR4, I used an external HD, which I called Photo Library, for all my images. I also had a second Ext. HD, which I called Photo Library Backup. Unfortunately, Photo Library crashed. I have now replaced it with another, which I now call New Photo Library. For many of my images in LR, when I access them, I get the message that they are either missing or offline.
My question: I now want LR to find ALL my images on New Photo Library. There are 4 folders which I recently downloaded, which are on New Photo Library, but most are not. Many are on Photo Library Backup, and those LR can find. But I'd still like them all to point to New Photo Library.
All the images that are in LR are now in the HD called New Photo Library.
What is the advantage of publishing to hard drive. Why not just export to hard drive?

I was running out of room, so I moved the photos to an external drive and removed them from my lap top. When I go to look them up in LR, it can see most of my photos, but not the ones I had worked on previously in LR. I ca see these photos in Finder, but I cannot get LR to 'see" them. What do I do?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI recentely upgraded to LR4.1 and it seems to have done something strange with my Folders. As you can see in the earlier version all of my harddrives are displayed as panel items in the folders panel. However now it's only displaying the boot drive and i have to drill down to the volumes folder to get to my hard drives..This is pretty annoying since i work on multiple hard drives.
I have read in earlier versions that people found a workaround by using the "Promote Subfolders" option until all drives were displayed. However this option doesn't seem to be in LR 4. None of my hard drives are compressed, and they are all internal.
It may be worth noting that when I went to create a new catalog it didnt show any hard drives begin with.

For some reason have a lot of my pictures been saved on two harddrives on my computer.
I now need to delete all the copies so I only have pictures on one harddrive.
How will I know which photos of the duplicates I can delete, so that Lightroom can work with them later on?
And, if I delete the original file, can Lightroom use the copies?
My start up disc is filling up and I have to delete a couple of thousand DNG's. When I go to do so, I am told that metadata has to be changed before I can do so. What do I actually have to do ?

At the momeent I am using the Drobo as back up until the 3tb becomes full. That time has come and I want to use the Drobo as the main drive for my images which contains exactly the same files as the 3tb. I also copied the catalog file onto the Drobo so I thought that all I needed to do is open the catalog in the Drobo and it will automatically access the files in the drobo drive but this is not the case as it still accesses the 3tb files. I want to add an external HDD. From what I have read already, I am supposed to import the photos to my new drive, no problem with that. I also don't want a new catalogue.
Question. Let's say the newly added extenal drive is not connected and i want to search from some pictures, let's say of my one son, Gideon. But I know I have pictures of him on both drives, will LR tell me to connect the external drive also? Does it keep track of where my pictures are in such a way that it can tell me which drive to connect, should it happen that I later on have 2 external drives?
I have just recently replaced the hard drive on my IMac. All files and applications have been re-installed from the time machine back up drive. LR shows up on the dock but when I open it it comes up with:"The Lightroom catalog named “Lightroom 3 Catalog” cannot be opened because another application already has it opened" and "Quit the other copy of Lightroom before trying to launch."
Do I have to reinstall LR3 from the LR DVD? I do not want to use loose the catalog structure and edit info.
I'd like to have access to my photos and catalog from both my laptop and my desktop computers. Will this work if I put Lightroom 5 on an external hard drive?
