I have Lightroom 3.6 and have lost some files in LIghtroom and on my harddrive. I can still see the images in Lightroom. I have tried to pull up my previous back ups but still can not access the files. Is there anyway to recover the images from LIghtroom?

I now need to delete all the copies so I only have pictures on one harddrive.
How will I know which photos of the duplicates I can delete, so that Lightroom can work with them later on?
And, if I delete the original file, can Lightroom use the copies?
I need to create space on my laptop hard drive. How do I move my pictures to an external harddrive? Terrified I will losse them or get the dreaded ...?
View 11 Replies View RelatedSince Windows normally places the pictures on a typical drive as "My Pictures" about four or five levels down from the root, any effort to import picture files into Lightroom requires multiple clicks to drill down to the "My Pictures" then (for example) year, month, date, etc.
Can I define a location as the default starting point to find the pictures? I don't see how to put that into presets. Or can a key shortcut be created to go straight to c:/users/name/mypictures/2013/April15 etc?
I transferred my LR3 files from my WD hard drive to my new Lacie Thunderbolt drive and now I can only get the preview and it says the file is missing. Is there a setting I need to change that I am not aware of?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI had an internal hard drive installed in my macbook pro 15 inch in place of my optical drive in order to give me more storage space. Per apple's instructions I then copied and moved Lightroom v3.6 to the new 1 TB drive. I then deleted Lightroom from the older smaller internal drive. Now when I open Lightroom in the new drive all the photos say file is "offline or missing' and can not be used. How I can use the files in Lightroom. 99% of them were raw files from either a 12 or 18 MP camera.

I shoot raw with my Canon t1i and jpg with my Canon SX-10.
Just last week I hooked up my external hard drive and Lightroom wouldn't connect to it. Usually when I hook it up, Lightroom opens up automatically. At least it use to.
I looked at the drive and it seems the tiff files are now called CR2 (Canon Raw I think). Why this happened and is there a way to get them back to where Lightroom will recognize them?
I can open them in Photoshop, but not Lightroom. I usually go first to Lightroom, then to Photoshop and back. Can't do it know though.
Lightroom can't send items to trash when deleting files on an external drive if the trash bin is empty for the relevant drive on OSX Lion. This was in LR3 and now in 4. You can get round this by making sure the trash is not emptied after deleting a random file or folder but there has to be a better way!
Also it seems to be a lightroom problem more than OS as Bridge can delete the files with no problem.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI store my images on an external hard drive. I recently upgraded from LR 3.6 on a windows XP machine to LR 5 on an iMac. I moved my catalogue fine, I think, as I can see all my images in LR 5 on the iMac. The problem is that I suspect there is some problem between the iMac and the external hard drive. I cannot import my RAW photos from my CF card into LR and onto the external hard drive. LR tells me "could not copy files to the requested location."
Is there some problem because I changed from windows to Mac? Problem bc I upgraded from LR 3.6 to LR 5?
I recently switched from Windows Vista to and iMac and I'm trying to edit photos in Photoshop CS6 and it won't let me make changes or edits to the photos stating that it can't allow me "write access" to save the changes? View 3 Replies View RelatedThe "pictures" section of my hard drive is a total mess! I am not sure why. None of my pictures are in folders. I would like to put them in some kind of organization. I am trying to get rid of pictures that I do not want to clear room on my hard drive. I deleted over 200 pictures in elements and happened to notice THAT I DID NOT CHECK THE SMALL BOX WITH THE SMALL LETTERS THAT SAYS" do you want to remove the picture from the hard drive? ugg. So all the work in vain. So I thought while I was going through the pictures on the hard drive I could at least organize them somewhat so they are at least in folders with say years or vacations etc. If I do this will elements be able to find the pictures and reconnect if I move them and they are in folders?

I just had a new hard drive installed. Everything was transferred over from the old one. Changed from Windows XP to windows 7 (64 bit). I re-installed Elements 9 but I cannot find any pictures, tags, folders - nothing. I have years of photos tagged! I get a message - no iems match this combination of filters. You can change your filter settings through view-media types or view - hidden files but I can't find this.

I opened Lightroom.
Noticed there was a question mark by the photo folder I needed.
I synchronized the folders. Nada.
I rememebered I moved the images (first line ^^)
I re-imported the images from the external drive into Lightroom.
These images (other than one that was marked previously with a blue label) look completely untouched - completely original files - even though I spent hours working on them.
I am glad the images weren't deleted BUT re-doing 600 images will be a MAJOR FAIL if I can't figure out how to import the images with the settings / developments I did beforehand.

But I guess I did it the wrong way (just searchimng for the files and moving them away). Then I imported again all my catalogs, but most of the pictures are "seen" AS DUPLICATE by LR and do not allow me any action on them. How can I fix it within deleting all the lrcat (libraries where all the changes done in the pictures are kept)?
