InDesign :: How To Cut And Paste Text From A WordPerfect (X4) File
Mar 6, 2014
I have an InDesign 5.0 (ver. 7.0.4) book file that I am updating and need to cut and paste text from a WordPerfect (X4) file into several chapters of my InDesign file. What is the best way to strip or "scrub" the WP formatting codes out so there's no chance of corrupting my .indd chapter files or the .indb book file? In the past I would cut it from WP, paste it into a new Windows Notepad document, then cut and paste it back into my .indd files. Someone told me that this does not actually scrub the file.
I have text in a frame with a table in it, connected to a Word file. Every time I try to copy text in it, InDesign goes into a loop while it refers back to the original file. It does it a bunch of times, I assume (but don't know) once for every row in the table. The loop takes three or four minutes to complete and there's nothing I can do until it's finished... I want to break that link and just have it as a normal text box, rather than a placed one. How do I do that?
I am animating text so that it appears after a 3 second delay on page load. However, it does not seem to work at all. It worked for a paragraph of text, but it won't work for text that seems to be surrounded by other objects. I tried moving the animated object to the top-most layer, but that did not work.
i switched gimp 2.6 to 2.8 and new text tool behaves strangely, as i remember in gimp 2.6 when i try to change text content with selecting old text and pasting new text i could use same text size and same font with my old text without doing anything but now in the gim 2.8 whenever i try to change content of a text layer i need to choose again font and text size from toolbox options, but why do i have to do this, i have a text placed on my image with a certain font and certain font size and i just want to alter my text conten not the size of text or font , it changes automatically to back text size and font whatever i used last time in another work.
summary: i want to change my text content without setting my font and font size properties, i want to use my text layers old properties
Is there a way to export text from InDesign to Photoshop and preserve the type as editable text in an area text box, similar to the export to PSD in Illustrator? Designed many web site pages in InDesign, and now need to covert all pages over to Photoshop quickly.
I have hundreds of diagrams in Microsoft word that need importing to Indesign. I have imported the illustration part of the diagrams via Illustrator but i now need to bring in the diagrams' text labelling.
The diagrams have a lot of text labels which each appear in their own text box, but if I save the .doc as an rtf and import it into InDesign, it imports all my individual textboxes into 1 large textbox which I can't seem to separate them from.
If I select one of my labels in Indesign and copy and paste it, it is now a separate text box - great, but InDesign won't let me select multiple text boxes within it's large text box and it just is not feasible for me to be selecting each box individually to cut and paste it.
Edit: Each individual text box (within the large textbox they have been imported into) appears to have been anchored on import. If I release the anchor this does what I need in the same way as cutting and pasting, but again, indesign won't let me select more than one and it would take far too long to select each box individually to release it. So I guess I'm either asking for a different import methos, or a way to select multiple textboxes that have been imported into a single text box.
I'm printing a document trying to get two out of each page. I imported text, formatted it within Indesign cs3 and not it's time to copy the block and paste it onto the right side of the page. But the pasted version had a .50 tab at the first word which does not exist on the original side. How do I fix this?
First I am a new user of InDesign so it might just be me. I am trying to use text wrap and it works fine with a text box. When I try to do the same thing on another page with a link text, text wrap does not work.
I need to change the text "IA" (just what is between the brackets) with another "IA" (I can not show this graphically) where the "A" is shifted upwards 3 pt.
As a I have to do this hundreds of times in a document I was looking for a search-replace option but I did not succeed.
I have imported an OAM file into the first page of an app I am making in InDesign. The OAM looks correct on load but once the animation begins it gets really big and all I see is a tiny portion of the animation.
I have other text and graphics on that page I was wondering if that could be the cause.
In the past day I have run into a problem whenever I copy and paste any text inside Illustartor CS6. If I copy text from outside Illustator and paste in a file, everything is ok. But if I copy text from inside an AI file and paste into another AI file or to the same file, I get a bunch of extra text that gets displayed before the pasted text. In the example below I copied and pasted the text "This is a test" within the same AI file, and got the a bunch of information above the text.
After finally getting X6 to be stable and usable I have two things I'd like to mention..
First, I've been using a 3rd party file manager called Ztree for years and one of its most wonderful capabilities is to copy paths to the clipboard which alleviates opening/saving frustrations with the typical Windoze Explorer dialogs. Anyway, one of the first problems I noticed with X6 is that Paste no longer works in the Open Drawing dialog, while it worked just fine in X5 and as far as I can remember, all previous versions. I sure would like to get that back.
My second complaint is the File/Export routine and specifically the presets. I do a lot of exporting to PNG and JPG and use multiple presets for fixed size/print resolution image output in both file formats. During the typical export session, I essentially export multiple different drawings all of which are exactly the same size/resolution in CD and in the past (X4 and prior as I recall,) was able to just hit <Enter> when the Export dialog appeared once the preset was set to the one I needed for that session.
In X6 though (and to some degree in X5,) even though the correct preset is listed, CD doesn't appear to recognize it, i.e., the math for the size/dpi conversion doesn't take place which forces me to waste time selecting "Original" or some other preset first, waiting for CD to render the new version, and THEN selecting the conversion preset that was pre-selected when I first opened the export dialog.
Today I tried to paste some unusual text into a text box and Gimp crashed. Since then, I can't get it to open, even after several reinstallations.
When I try to open it, the icon on the dock bounces once, then stops. It doesn't open X11 or anything (X11 still works fine on its own, though).
I've been looking around Google for a while, and I found out how to enter the --verbose thing into the terminal, and this is what I got when Gimp tries to launch:
/Applications/Gimp.app/Contents/Resources/script: line 24: /tmp/skl/Gimp.app/Contents/Resources/bin/update-fc-cache: No such file or directory/Applications/Gimp.app/Contents/Resources/script: line 26: /tmp/skl/Gimp.app/Contents/Resources/bin/setup-gimpdir: No such file or directory/Applications/Gimp.app/Contents/Resources/script: line 30: /tmp/skl/Gimp.app/Contents/Resources/bin/help-locale: No such file or directory/Applications/Gimp.app/Contents/Resources/script: line 37: /tmp/skl/Gimp.app/Contents/Resources/bin/gimp: No such file or directory/Applications/Gimp.app/Contents/Resources/script: line 37: exec: /tmp/skl/Gimp.app/Contents/Resources/bin/gimp:
I have a layer with some paths and lines of text. I copied some of the paths and text and tried to paste in another layer or document; the paths are not pasted and all the text becomes a single line. When I copied only the paths, it is pasted correctly. If I copied only the text and tried to paste in another layer or document, all the text becomes a single line.
If I drag the selection from one layer to another using the panel, it works. If I drag the selection from the artboard to another document, it works. But these operations sometimes are not convenient. What I would like is to copy the items, target a layer in another document and paste there. With a large document with dozens of layers and a lot of text the drag and drop solution is not feasible.
I need to position some shaded text boxes within columns of normal text that all flow over approximately 30 pages. This is so that whenever I make text edits in the columns I dont have to manually go through and reposition the coloured boxed.
The method im using at the moment is to simply cut and paste the text box into the columns so that if I add or remove a line, the box moves with the rest of the text.
However the issue I'm having is the internal text box overlaps the normal text unless i hit return 10-15 depending on how big the box is.Is there anyway to avoid this?
I know how to do this on Indesign...but I do not have that programme at present. I am using photoshop CS3 and am wanting to design a tattoo. It is an outline of New Zealand with some song lyrics inside as inspration due to the Earthquake we have had in Christchurch.
Is it possible for me to do this in Photoshop (roughly), or not? I have tried to look but I don't even know what it is called for the task I am trying to do!
we have tried EVERYTHING. we use adobe indesign for our school newspaper and for the past 3 days we have been trying to get one of the articles (text) to wrap around a photo. the photo is a simple rectangle shape. for all of the other pages, the text wraps around photos perfectly fine. but for some reason on this one page it will not wrap around any picture at all. of course "text wrap" is selected for the photo and we also tried going to the text frame options and unchecked ignore text wrap. that still didn't work. we tried putting it on "detect edges" and that also did not work.
Any way to preserve spaces between text boxes or frames, in other words if i designed a template consist of two text boxes the space between the first and the second box is 9.77 mm then i removed some text from the first text box (auto fitting to content) so the height of the first text box will decrease and the space between the two text boxes (9.77 mm) will increase, what i want to do is to fix this space so if any text box decreased in height the other text box lefted up or down to fix this space (9.77 mm).
A client sent an InDesign IDML file. I opened it at exported its stories as .txt files.
When I tried to place the texts in a new InDesign CS5 document, the text displayed strangely. Mostly, I see rectangles with exes through them. It looks likethe headers of an unreadable format. Some of the characters are normal alhabetic glyphs.
When I open the text files in TextEdit, they display normally. If I copy and paste, the texts look fine in the InDesign document.
What could cause this problem, and how can I fix it?
How do you thread two different text box with two different text format? Eg. Text Box
1: Font Size 50pt...Text box 2: Font Size 10pt..
Once you thread the two text boxes; and delete the content in Text box 1, what ever the content that flows to Text box 1 from text box 2 should auto format to Font Size 50.
I am taking a long shot at this because I know its possible, but I cant seem to figure out how to do it. My problem is that I have a lot of resturants clients who have different menu (take out, dine in, delivery) that contain the same items over and over agian. Problem is that if there is a change in one you have to manually change it in other menus. I am wondering if there is a way to setup these menus where you change the text in one file (doc, txt, rft, incopy or whatever)? BUT the tricky part is that, each of these files have its own indepdent text & paragraph styles and that cant be disturb by the edits.
I cannot find a way to control buffering in a text box. Always text goes right to edge. How do I change the setting so that there is an automatic margin of x pixels around the edge of a text box in InDesign CC.
When I draw a frame, suddenly In-Design has started to put a slightly larger area around it which also repels text. I must have inadvertently invoked this feature somehow, but as I'm not sure what I did to cause it I can't work out how to rid myself of its effect.
If I have a paragraph of text and paste in photoshop, is there any ways to control the length of the paragraph inside the text box without distorting the text? I mean everytimes I have the text and need to press "enter" to create the form of text box.
I am currently trying to copy some text I entered from one text box to another text box and GIMP not allowing it. I can paste the text just fine into any other application, word, browser, etc. so I know the copy/cut function is working fine. I've even tried opening the Text Box Editor from the text box itself and no luck there.
What gives? And why does it seem like I have to jump through ten times as many hoops for basic functions as I would with another program?
I'm trying really hard not to bash on GIMP after only using it for a few days but I would be lying if I said my blood pressure is damn near through the roof.
My computer's power source failed and turned off while an Indesign CS5.5 file is open. Now trying to access the file, my computer (a mac) thinks it's still open. I'd like to either "close" down the file my computer thinks is open or delete the file (I have good copy on an external hard drive).
Every time I try to package out a file in InDesign its gets about 3/4s of the way through and then shows the "Cannot copy necessary font(s)" dialog box. I have read on certain discussions it may be a font issue. When I remove ALL fonts from my computer font library and use only preset Adobe fonts, Arial Regular for example, it works fine, then as soon as I use a font say, Helvetica Neue Light, I get the error. I have only recently upgraded to CC and all of the existing fonts in my library have always worked fine and never been a problem when packaging... However due to the tests with different fonts, it seems to be a font issue and not a links/filename issue like other people have had.
