Illustrator :: Can't Find 809C In Pantone Coated Swatches Gallery
Jul 25, 2013I can not find Pantone 809C in my Patone Coated swatches gallery. I know that color exists but for some reason Illustrator only goes up to 807C.

Aug 12, 2013I'm trying to include PMS 2077C in an Illustrator CS6 file. For some reason, when I search 2077 in the Pantone Solid Coated find field, nothing comes up.

Feb 11, 2014I have a Pantone + Solid coated book that has 336 new colors in the back. Specifically pms 2028 C. The problem is when I try to find it in the PMS charts in Illi CS6 or PS CS6, those 336 new colors are not in my Pantone + Solid coated charts. I ran the adobe updates and it updated what it needed but I'm still unable to find it. Am I looking in the wrong chart? The name matches that of my PMS book so it just doesn't make sense. I scroll through the Illi chart and also try to use the "find" section.

May 16, 2013Problem in AICS6 trying to find a certain Pantone color. Why Adobe, Pantone or both have never learned to count? Here is a sample of the Pantone list in the "Swatches" palette: PANTONE 133, PANTONE 1205, PANTONE 1215, etc. and it gets worse. Is there a way to tell them to go into numerical order? Why aren't they already in numerical order? That is the whole point of giving anything a number: order.
In the totally unrelated and incompatible application InDesign you at least have the option of typing in the number you want. In AI you have to scroll through the random swatches until you stumble on it. Now, they are in order. There are rules to this sort of thing just that there are rules for grammer and spelling. If Adobe claims they are in order that is the same as saying they have invented their own language and grammer. Worse, they have invented their own number system. Feb 14, 2012Bog-standard install of CS 5.5 Design Standard suite on a Mac, OS 10.7.3, everything is up to date.
No networking, all apps insatlled locally, Swatches reside in /Applications/Adobe Illustrator CS5.1/Presets/en_US/Swatches/Color Books.
I'm logged in to an admin account.
I've tried saving workspaces with the Pantone Solid Coated swatch open and marked "persistent" and nothing seems to work.
Illustrator :: Pantone Uncoated Swatches Look Washed Out
Aug 7, 2013I'm somewhat green on the print side of things. I understand that pantone coated vs uncoated are formulated for printing on coated or uncoated papers.
why do the uncoated color swatches in the illustrator color book look so washed out? The coated swatches look very vibrant. Is this just a visual approximation of how the colors will look after absorbed into uncoated paper? They just look so dramatically different, I can't really match a rich color I'm trying to reproduce with any of the uncoated swatches (for a projecct being printed on uncoated paper stock).

Jun 19, 2012I've made a design in Ai CS6 (with colorspace) and have used several Pantone swatches. From a few Pantone colors I have used only a percentage of the color, for example the design consists of: 75% of Pantone 485 C, 32% of Pantone 1345 C and 100% of Pantone 154 C.
In the process of the design I have used several other Pantone colors which are not used in the final design, but they are still in the Swatch tab/list. So when you click on the triangle (upper right corner) > "Select All Unused..", the Pantone colors that are only used as percentages (Pantone 485 C & Pantone 1345 C in the example) are being selected as "Unused" ?!
I have been using Ai CS4 before this version and in that version this wasn't a problem.I could you percentages of Pantone colors without the swatch being selected as "Unused".
I really don't want to manual delete every unused swatch by dragging it into the trash bin.It would be such a time wasting handling.This is really inconvenient as I am working for a print and design company and need to save the Pantone colors that are used in the design, even if they are only a percentage of the Pantone swatch.

For example, I type in 654, but it automatically goes to 7654, so I have to highlight the text and delete the 7 in order for it to show 654. CS 5 didn't have this search issue, but its a problem with several of the colors that I have to use.

Sep 27, 2012I have my Pantone Solid Coated palette open in Illustrator but can't find the Pantone colors from 7548 to 8002 (they actually jump from 7547 to 8003, and I want to use 7737), my list is sorted by name.
The only thing I think might be the problem is that these have a transparant White value, and all the rest hasn't so maybe it's in another swatch ?

My solution would be to convert (script internally, without actually making any changes in document) swatches to grayscale, compare them and pick the darkest. But how to convert swatch defined in undefined mode (they might be in lab or cmyk) to grayscale?
I found in 'js scriping reference' a method "convertSampleColor", but I have no idea how to use it. Any examples?
Illustrator :: Unused Deleted Swatches Come Back After Deleting / Clicking Add Used Swatches
Jul 12, 2013I am proficient in Illustrator, but this has been one of a few enigmas. Every once and a while in a file, I have noticed that after deleting a color that is definitely not in use(ie there are no strokes, fills, stray paths etc) using these colors. I have made sure of it. I will delete the color from the swatches and as a final pass I like to add used colors and sure enough that color will come back. I tried making sure it's not checked global, didn't work, some I don't even think are global colors, and in fact they are generally CMYK. I often notice that Black and C:0 M:0 Y:0 K:100 don't like to delete from the swatches among some other colors when you delete unused swatches. I thought perhaps they were in guides or something but it's truly unexplainable, and generally with a fresh file if all colors are deleted it'll still leave black white and gray.
Or ways to troubleshoot better other than creating a debug file and deleting lines of code as recommended in the older forums?

Aug 24, 2012I am new to offset printing, working for a church that is creating a great new graphic identity. I am working with a local graphic designer to print our newly designed items, and the first item we sent to print was a small envelope for donating money. Our designer showed us a digitally printed proof that looked very close to our colour, PMS 268 C. But, once they were offset printed, they were much lighter, close to PMS 268 UC. I was very disappointed, and realized I should have requesting coated stock, and I feel my designer is to blame for not mentioning this to me/showing me a misleading proof. Now we need to get a letter head printed, and she tells me that to match a Solid coated colour we must use glossy paper (she says glossy=coated). It is mind boggling to me that a digital printer can produce deeper, richer colours on uncoated paper than an offset printer can. I certainly don't want a glossy letterhead, but I cannot settle for such a inaccurate colour match. Is there anyway to get a match to a coated colour on uncoated or at least non-glossy paper?
