How to move 2 points towards (or away) from each other at the same time? After selecting the points with the direct selsection tool, i seem to remember that there was a quick key command that would move the points either towards each other at the same time or away with a similar command.
View 9 RepliesI have Illustrator CS6 for mac ox mountain lion. I was working with a vector image and everything was working fine. Now when i try to move any anchor point, it acts as if its not calabrated, for lack of better terms. If i try to move it one way it snaps twoards another, or if i try to adjust the hadles, they do the same. it doesn't follow my direction like it did befor. Its now impostible to use!
View 2 Replies View RelatedOn my Mac OS X (2010), running Excel 2011 and Adobe CS6, I'm having major issues with the points in a scatter plot not rendering as vectors once moved to an Adobe program. The entire plot will transfer as a vector, except the data points themselves! Oddly, even the shapes in the legend are vectors! When I save a plot from a powerpoint presentation as a pdf, the data points look pixelated in the pdf. When I copy paste the plot into illustrator, same thing. It is totally infuriating.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have some blocks with a point connected to them, the point is free movable, moving the point does not move the block, but moving the block does also move the point. each block has 1 point connected to it.
what i want is to move the point of the blocks i select to the same location. (without moving the blocks themselves)
I am using autocad 2011 (tried to upload the block in question but doesn't seem to be working)
Civil3D - have surface from contours (plines), breaklines, etc. Have been able to edit TIN to add points or move them in the past (I think). Recently, I can't add or move points through the TIN edit. I'm guessing something I changed (maybe recent update), variable, etc

1. How do I know when 2 or more points are exactly on the same vertical or horizontal line?
2. How do i get them to align?
3. How do I move 2 or more points together? (Control select and drag)?
Any routine (perhaps a lisp) to move, rotate and align text with one swift command?
Something like this video below.
What happened to the option/enter command in the move object dialog that has been around since the early days of Illustrator??? Instead of having to mouse click the "copy" button in the move object window, one could just hold down option with Return or Enter and the Copy command would happen rather than a simple move. Immensely useful for prepress work!

View 14 Replies View RelatedI upgraded to CS6 (v16) from CS5 and am having trouble with one feature so far. In CS5 I could create objects and move them around the artboard with an indicator that would come up to show me where I wasplacing it. For example a light green indicator would show if the object is centred (with the text 'centred' also visible) or a line extending from this point to the object to indicate how far away it was. Illustrator would also do this for the relative position to other objects as well as the edges of the artboard which made aligning things very easy.
These indicators have disappeared in CS6 and I can't seem to get them back even when using different align options. How can I get this to return in my copy of Illustrator CS6?
In the screen grab here, you can see that "errors" in gradient smoothness coincide with control points..or maybe between certain control points....is there a way to prevent this error from happening?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI draw with the pen tool a rectangle... When I click with the direct selection tool on the left side anchors, none of them have the corner widget... The right side anchors / both have corner widgets appearing.
I have tried clicking the left-side anchors and converting them to 'corners' both nothing happens..
I try to select and move a layer using the Move Tool, another layer is immediately selected and moved instead.
Also, if I have layers inside a folder and try to move one of those layers, the entire folder is selected and all layers within that folder move.
I have not grouped any layers together.
I'm using Mac OS 10.4.8 with PS 9.0.1

I need to copy and paste path segments in order to create uniform serifs for letters. (For example, specific path curves).
So imagine I have a horizontal segment and a curve segment. I mouseover each one seperately and I can see they have anchor points where I want them to merge afterwards. I drag one towards the other to make them intersect. Then I try to select both anchor points and press CTRL + SHIFT + ALT + J, but it displays this error: "To join, you must select two open endpoints. (...)" Which makes me think I'm not really selecting both anchor points when they're overlapped.
I have the idea that they can't overlap, because my path segment won't detect the anchor point in the other path. They're just visually intersected but not connected.
If I try to join them when they aren't overlapped, they will join but distort the original shape of the path segments. I select them both with the Direct Selection tool, pressing Shift to add the second anchor point to the selection, which won't work when they're overlapped because Shift + Clicking will deselect the anchor that seems on top.
I also tried various shape modes in pathfinder and nothing works.
How can I properly overlap and join / merge them?
(I'm using a white fill so I can see the shape forming as I add more anchor points so I'm sure they aren't joined).
I want to move two opposite anchor points in opposite directions so that they are equally spaced. So if I have one anchor point I want to move right and the other left how can i make sure that they have equal spacing apart without having to resort to rulers. Is it possible to select both points and get them to move in opposite direction together?

I thought these tools were for selecting individual or small groups of anchor points so that they can be edited. Seems like I have a lot of unnecessary points, but when I try to simplify the picture gets all messed up. Any other way to fix this?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a workflow where I will link a few PSD's and the other designers can modify the PSD files in Photoshop while I'm working on different content in the AI file. This allows us to work simultaneously and be more efficient with time, since my AI edits aren't dependant on them fixing up the images - it works great.
What I really need is to link an AI file and be able to snap to points on it while I'm creating a separate AI file - The linked AI isn't changing much but I need to see any updates made to it so I can adjust my AI accordingly - but it requires precision and I have to be able to snap to points/edges.
I've wanted this since Illustrator 10 and I can't believe there's no possible way to link to an AI or PDF and be able to just snap to the points, obviously AI knows about the points and lines, the linked content scales and is vector based. By default I can see the AI file but it has the "X" over it and all I can snap to are the edges/corners of the box it's placed in. This doesn't work for me and I have a hard time believing I'm the first person in the world to want to do a simultaneous workflow. I don't want to be able to edit the linked AI at all, just snap to its points.
I know that to merge different sections they have to be on the same layer / sublayer then you should cut them so they merge or rather it's not closed. That is exactly what I did and the little gap you see in the image, I can't get those two to merge together as one seamless object ?

View 5 Replies View RelatedIn the above image, I have four symmetrical corners of an ellipse which I'm trying to join together into one ellipse that is perfectly symmetrical. I am trying to line up the anchors perfectly (one corner at time) and then do a join, yet the result is always slightly off. I've been selecting the two points I want to join and using Path -> Average, then Path -> Join to do this, yet as mentioned it's not coming out precise.

I've turned off "snap to grid" and "align new objects to pixel grid". I've even copied and pasted the artwork into a new "default" file. I've also restarted AICS5. I know how to do this, but my way is by using direct select and going in and picking out points and joining them which is going to take ages. Is there any way to say select a range of anchor points on a path (not the whole path, but not individual points either) like shift clicking a range of files in windows explorer? Are there any other ways I can go about this in a more time efficient manner? I am using the Creative Cloud.

View 21 Replies View RelatedAs the topic says, I need to make 2 points in two different objects to stick to eachother, so for example when I rotate a line which is "connected" to a square object in one end, the line will rotate around that point.
Also, if I have lets say two square objects and I "connect" one of the corners of one square object to another corner of another square object, where the points are located exactly on the same location, I need to be able to rotate any of the square objects around the point which is connected to the other square.
I've read a couple of methods for deleting variable-width tool points on a path (NOT path points or paths.)
None of them work for me; is there some trick to doing it?
I have read: A) Hover over the unwanted point (with var. width tool) and hit Delete and B)Select unwanted point with var width tool and hit delete.
Both moves result in the entire path being deleted.
Is there such a thing as a corner anchor point with handles? It's quite a common thing in other vector programs (i.e. Inkscape), but I can't change the direction (angle) of the curve leaving/entering a corner anchor point.
