Jan 27, 2013I want to save it to a JPEG so I can view it in my pictures.Is there a way to do this. I do not have a choice when I save as.

I have set the size to 24000x30000 pix at 1000 dpi..now my problem, when i go to save the gimp file as a jpeg i get this error message "JPEG image plug-in could not save image"

Jun 13, 2013I've been a GIMP user for a couple of years and have just encountered a new and unexpected problem with version 2.8.4. I'm attempting to export a file to JPEG format, and am receiving the message:
"Saving 'FILENAME' failed: JPEG image plug-in could not save image."
I ensured I had adequate disk space, tried saving to different locations (including other drives on our network), tried resizing the image, and nothing will work. The message just recurs each time, no matter what I try.

Jun 17, 2012I have Gimp2.8 in windows. Under 'save as' it shows only xcf and 3 other related formats but not jpeg etc.
My friends using 2.6 in ubuntu have all the formats to save as. Is it that in windows you cannot save to any other format.

May 9, 2012I have used gimp for a few years, today i installed windows 7. i was excited to try gimp on win7 but unfortunately its the new version of gimp that i hate . anyway, when i try to save an image there are only a few formats available: xcf and other GIMP formats i guess. there is no gimp brush format or bmap or jpeg or anything! I am making a timelapse for youtube.

May 16, 2013For some reason Gimp 2.8 forces me to save in xcf format. Most times I want to save a file in jpeg or png format. Having to save as xcf, and then export to jpeg or png is a pain in the unmentionables. Especially when reopening the file for editing, requiring another pointless dance with the export system.
Is there some module, upgrade, improvement, fork or other means by which export is merged with save/save as functionality, thus removing the additional steps in the process of saving a file? Ideally it should involve nothing more than hitting Ctrl S for an a file that already has a name. Put another way, something that works the way everything else does.

Apr 11, 2012I've searched for hours for directions on how I can use my 3D template in GIMP. I purchased the template from a stock photo site. It already does have a 3D appearance with proper shadowing etc. I am creating a 3D book cover. So I only want to fit the jpg image I created,. the flat 2-D one, to my blank 3-D book cover template. I also want to add text to the spine of the book, or an image of this text if that's how it's done.
This would be the same process I think with any sort of 3D template and 2D image. For example, some people create boxes and other items in 3D. But I don't need to know how to create the 3D effect. I already have that in the template I purchased. I just need to know how to add my jpeg image to the template so that it fits properly.

Dec 26, 2011I have a jpeg image of a motorcycle on a pure yellow background. I want to make the yellow transparent. Naturally there are a lot of spaces within the motorcycle image that contain yellow.
I followed instructions I found...
Removing the background of an image
1) add an alpha channel to your layer
2) use colors/color to alpha and use the background color
This results in the checkerboard being applied to the motorcycle, not the yellow background. I assume that's okay.
This makes all the pixels with the background color transparent, and those with a close color partially transparent.
Then:
- select the background with the magic wand,
- grow the selection by a couple of pixels to ensure that the border of the sprite is in the selection (the most important work of color-to-alpha is on the border pixels, so they shouldn't be protected)
This selects only the area outside the bicycle, but I don't mind reselecting smaller areas, if I can.

Oct 20, 2013I am trying to open this image [URL] ... that I downloaded the full sized image and it doesn't matter how many times I download it or open it in Gimp it shows up in Gimp corrupt and gives me the error "premature end of jpeg file" but Windows Photo Viewer views the image just fine! what is wrong when I open it in Gimp???

Apr 24, 2013I got this workflow,
1) From LR export to PS
2) Do all essential editings.
3) Save. File become 'xyz.tiff' now. (I want to keep this as master copy)
4) Crop to 4r, Save a Jpeg copy as 'xyz 4r.jpg'
5) PS save it as a copy, but do not automatically open the Jpeg copy. The tiff remains opened. I have to manullay Open, browse to it, and open the Jpeg. The 'Open Recent' list also do not list 'xyz 4r.jpg'.
6) Do 4r sharpening for the 'xyz 4r.jpg', save it.
Basically the files I want to keep and worked on is like this: NEF -> xyz.tiff -> xyz 4r.jpg -> xyz sml.jpg(maybe)
Now, it there a way in step (5) to have PS save the JPEG copy, and automatically open it? I don't care if the Tiff copy remains opened or not, I am done with it.

May 28, 2013I got a new computer (Windows 7) at work this April and as of today, when I work on any of my JPEG images in PS CS5,suddenly it has defaulted its "Save As" to JPEG2000. How did this default change and how do I get it to default save as. JPEG again? There was nothing I noticed and no warning as to why this has changed, I didn't touch a thing!
(Last week, Adobe had to work with our IT manager to fix a problem that started occuring with my new Adobe Acrobat Pro 11 program. They had to log into my computer and change a registry thing to get it to work properly again...also something that changed without warning!!)

Jan 12, 2014I don't know if I'm encountering trouble with gimp or pdf complete. I have 2.6 and I'm trying to save a 5x7 image as a 5x7 pdf. As far as I can tell in doing everything correct. However the pdf always saves scaled as 8.5x11 page with a 5x7 image so when it prints on the 5x7 paper it's tiny!

GIMP :: Save Image With Layer Size?
Dec 27, 2011I'm always cropping pieces of a large composition, then saving, then undoing and repeating. I noticed that GIMP has an understanding of layer size. If I could only save the image based on the layer size, I wouldn't need to crop every time, then undo. It would just know!
Aside from the redundancy, sometimes changes are made after cropping and saving and I am unable to return back to my original document size after exhausting undo's. Which means that everything else in the image is gone.
GIMP :: 2.8 - Unable To Save / Export Image
Aug 7, 2013I cannot save or export an image from GIMP 2.8 at all. No matter where the mouse pointer is on the save/export window only a caret is displayed and not a cursor. The exception to this is when I hover over the vertical slider in the directory pane and I am able to move the slider on left click and drag. When I was using 2.8.2 (see below) and attempted this operation the cursor changed to an icon resembling a text document. The icon does not appear in 2.8.6
The problem has only occurred in the last 10 days. It first happened to me about a week ago. At that time I was using GIMP 2.8.2. Today I uninstalled this version and installed 2.8.6 with no improvement. I also tried deleting the .GIMP2.8 directory (as recommended elsewhere in this forum) with both versions but to no avail. As implied I have used GIMP (for more than 18 months) without a problem until the last week and a bit.
I am using Windows 7 Professional 64bit.

GIMP :: JPG Image - Cannot Save Cropped File?
Jun 26, 2012I open a jpg file in gimp and use the crop tool. I see the cropped part highlighted and the part to be discarded as a surrounding shaded area. I am happy with the cropped part and open a file-save-as dialog through the file menu. I type in the file name and think I am done. But when I open the saved file, it looks the same as the uncropped file that I started with in the first place. What am I failing to do to make the gimp save my change? I guess the answer is that I didn't really make a change but only thought I did. So how do I actually change to the cropped image?
