AutoDesk Smoke :: Basic Motion Graphic Builds With Logos And Mask Shapes
Nov 18, 2012
I'm trying to do some basic motion graphic builds with logos, and mask shapes.
Is there an easy way yo bring in mask shapes, timed animation position or scale keyframes that I have in AE... Like Copy keyframes, or mask shape from AE, and Paste into Smoke...
I've been combing through several tutorials, but I can't seem to find a straightforward way to blur logos. I am looking to track and blur a logo throughout a shot that's already in my sequence. Occasionally instead of a blur, I 'clone stamp' the logo with a nearby area from the image to make the logo disappear.
I'm trying to use motion vectors that I rendered from Maya 2011 using Mental Ray's 2D Vectors for Toxik preset. The vectors work for blurring in Toxik and Nuke but when I bring them into CFX, the Motion Blur node goes crazy and shows arrows going off in all different directions. Is there a different format for rendering motion vectors from Maya for CFX or is this a Smoke 2013 bug?
I tried different things, like pixel spread, shrink, etc but I don't seem to get a better key than in my screenshot...."I know there is a way in Autodesk Smoke that you can use to paint the hue underneath your faded image. Its called the wash paint if I'm correct."
I don't know how that should work though.... how to get rid off the white edges but keep the blur?

Is there any way to turn on motion blur in Axis on the time line like you can in Action?
I looked in setup and it doesn't seem to be there, hoping I'm just missing something and I don't have to hall this text into action and back each time it gets updated.
I've got a load of text whizzing about on 3d paths and an overall camera move. The thing is i want loads of motion blur on the text but NOT on the camera move itself.
I'm specifically looking into using motion vectors to control the position of a texture. For a better idea of what I mean. See this video, especially at 1:08

I'm sure some people will call this the "Paperman" effect.
I see a lot of information out there on how to use motion vectors to do motion blur, but not much else. I'm sure they are capabable of soo much more! All that movement information from 3D in a 2D environment sounds great!
I have motion vector channels correctly exported from Maya and I'm wording which CFX combination I would use to composite a texture in a way that it was controlled by the movement information of the motion vector channel.
I've been unable to import ProRes 422 files son I have to work with the H264 native files, which suck. But now I tried to import a couple of PSDs and a TIFF and they don't appear in the media hub nor can I drag-and-drop'em to the media library.
I have footage that contains GS footage. I also have a graphic I want to put behind the two. I can achieve this with a vertical comp in my time line and the timeline axis effect. But when I try to connect the two with CFX I get an error and my footage looks wonky.
What's the best way to pre-build graphic elements and save them to be used in a composite? This is what I've done so far: used a color generator on the timeline then added the wipe effect. Within the wipe effect I created as series of shapes (which turned out to be animated which I didn't want). What I want to to do is use just 1 still frame of this graphic with its matte in a composite but I'm not sure how to get that into my connect fx or action. I tried saving that wipe effect but once in connect fx I can't access the wipes. Can I save the wipe effect as a gmask?
when I add a modular keyer to any clip and try to add a G-Mask from the G-Mask node; no "Add" button appears in the interface. So I can't add a mask to a comp. What am I missing here?
I have a greenscreen shot, which I keyed using the modular keyer inside action. The key looks good. Then I export the front (on black) and the matte. When I now grab the just rendered out files, and put them back into action, I get a black outline....
I tried to render out the front on white, but then I get a white outline.
I also tried dividing the clips before exporting, but I still get an outline.... what can I do?

The hot key to draw a straight line in a mask? I'm wanting to create a gMask for a letterbox matte but can't remember what the hot key is to keep the line straight or 90 degree.
I got a clip in my timeline and i apply an axis fx. Inside axis fx i create a gmask. The alpha works but when i select this clip and create container then the alpha become solid black. I tried to apply a new axis fx but that doesn't work at all.
is there any way to add shapes, in the "basic shapes" bar?
or maybe in any other locations.
I use a lot of predefines shapes, that are saved in various files. i wanna make a way to directly import these shapes, whithout open files and copy/paste the dsired shapes.
Still on the basics, here's a demo video that includes adding a macro form and sizing of some selected shapes. I had fun doing this one but it's hard trying to squeeze everything into a short video (to keep video file size low).
I know that the AJA Kona 3 card has 2 outputs. Can Smoke send one eye to one channel and the other eye to the other of the Kona 3 card? Dual Stream output is what I am really getting at.
Is there any way that Smoke can see/output sub-blacks and super whites? Can't find any way of seeing them on my scope, Smoke just clamps everything. It won't even see anything below zero in order for me to make a correction on it, everything seems to be clamped on import. I'm using ProRes HQ footage.
What is the best plugin to do spline warps in smoke?(need something like the distort in flame) I notice revisionfx don't make a warper for smoke on mac.
I am experimenting with Smoke 2013 pre-trial and I am having issues with importing images and video with alpha channels.
1. If I have a layered Photoshop file or png with an alpha channel (a still frame lower third), I see that I can import it as a multi layered clip, but what is the best way to have it in the sequence to show up properly?
2. If I have a QuickTime in animation format or Pro Res4444 format with an embedded alpha, how can I import that file to show and cut it on a top layer to animate above my video?
For several months I have had random shapes appear in my files when using vector masks. The scrambled imagery only appears at random and at certain zooms (over 25%) and will disappear upon restart of Photoshop. If I flatten the file, it will retain the scrambled imagery, but otherwise it seems to not actually corrupt the data, just the view on screen. I've been fighting this for months and have replaced drives, video cards, and it still persists.
