AutoCad :: Put Dimension In Paper Space To Check Length Of Line?
Nov 30, 2011
I put a dimension in paper space to check the length of a line and after, i wanted to clear that dimension but it didn't dissapear. If I zoom out or zoom in the screen, the dimension still remains in the same place and it's not scalling. What can I do to clear that dimension?

Wile using acad2011...
In model space I set the units form my dwg (cm), draw a line (100units). Next i go to paper space, create a viewport. When the viewport scale is set to 1:1 the ploted line is 100mm in length (not 100cm). Why is this so? How should I correct this? Changing of units in model space does not effect the length of the line in paper space.

I am attempting -- without much success -- to put my dimensions in paperspace. The problem is that sometimes (almost always) the dimension value is in paperspace. That is, when I do a Linear Dimension of two points of an object while in paperspace the resulting value will be a few inches instead of many feet.
My model is drawn at full size; my viewport is set to 1/4" = 1'-0"; I am using ACA 2012.
I am not sure if it instructive, but I have found:
- The only time it comes out correct is if my first point is at 0,0. But if the second point is 0,0 it will be wrong (paperspace value). Bizarre
- most of the "wrong" dimensions have the "Associative" property set to "No". The box is grayed out so I am not sure how to change it.
- If I MEASUREGEOM, the value is the correct model space length but if I do a linear dimension using the same two points the value is in paperspace.

I created several dimension styles to use in paper space. All of these work perfectly, and accurately if my dimassoc is set a 1. However I wanted these to be associative dimensions. When I change the dimassoc to 2, the associative dimensions aspect of this works, but the dimension text is multiplied by the scale factor for some reason.
For example, the dimensions should read 50' and now read 4800' when was scale factor is at 96 for 1/8" scale. How do I go about setting up my dimstyle to be associative and accurate? Typically I have several different scale viewports on each sheet in paper space, so I need multiple dimension styles.

I am drawing in a viewport on a layout sheet rather than directly on the model so I can work on the same model but show different layers. However, when drawing lines, instead of the box thay appears containing the dimension of the line remaining close to the cursor so it is always visible on the screen no matter how zoomed in you are, it is fixed half way along the line so it disappears off the screen so I cannot read it. This doesn't happen when working directly on the model and is very frustrating more than anything else. Is there a way to change this?

It's not possible to work with annotation dimensions on paper space?
Using the traditional way and neither. Because AutoCAD 2010?

When I change a dimension in one viewport the alphabetical text size in another viewport enlarges automatically (not the numerals) yet when I look at the properties it still says the right size. How can I stop this from happening?

I have an odd thing going on with my dimensioning in ACAD M3013. I did not have this issue in any previous version.
I will set it up: all objects are drawn in Model Space. All drawn 1:1 scale. All annotations such as titleblock, notes, dimensions, etc is done in Paper space. We never do it differently. Viewports are created in Paper Space to a traditional scale, sometimes "custom". ACAD already knows the scale of my viewport, so when I go to dimension, all the dimensions are already correct. I have gotten spoiled in fact that they are correct. NOT ANYMORE! ccasionally, about 3-4 times a week, a dimension will be incorrect, like to an inproper scale. It only happens for a few of the dimensions in any given viewport. That is to say, in one viewport, dimensions will be scaled differently giving the incorrect value. I avoid picking objects in Paper Space to determine my Dim origins, but just picking a feature may give the wrong results. Happens with all 3 machines in our office.
Surely there are unimaginable variables to check and change, but this seems random and feels like a problem with ACAD.

In Autocad 2006, is there a way to control the length of the dimension line when it extends outside of the dimension distance itself? In other words, when a dimension is small, and the arrowheads flip to the outside of the dimension parameter, the text and the extension line outside of the dimension seems to go to far outside of the dimension area..
Can I control how far outside of the dimension area that this line and text are placed? They seem to go to far out on my drawings. I prefer them to be closer to the actual dimension area instead of extending so far out.. Didn't know if there was a control for this and where to find it.

My goal is to be able to select a line and a dimension and then have the line's length appear as the text override for the dimension. I have the code to substitute the variable "dist" for the dimension text:
(setq dimselected (entsel "
Select Dimension:"))
(setq newlength dist)
(command "dimedit" "n" newlength dimselected "")
but am having problems extracting the line's length to the variable and setting setting it equal to the variable. To make things more interesting, the value needs to be in inches with fractional inches accurate to 1/16".

it's been awhile since I have been back to autocad. I draw a line an exact length then when I try to dimension it with a fraction it rounds up. I can't find the setting. It is say 5 1/2" but will dimension to 6"..

How I would change both the model and paper space thickness of a line in AutoCAD 2004? I've tried changing "line thickness" and "line weight" in the properties dialog box but it doesn't seem to matter whether it's 0 or 9,999,999 or any number, it just looks the same, in both the model space and paper space views.
I have a drawing someone else did that uses polylines of different thickness so I have tried to figure out how they did it. Again, looking at the properties dialog box it seems to make no difference what I set the "line thickness" or "line weight" properties to...the line just stays the same size regardless.
I want to change line thicknesses because I'm designing a surface water pipe layout...I want the pipes to be a lot thicker than the lines that represent the actual building so that they will stand out when I plot the drawing.

how to edit the line space distance for the dimension text. I can change the style, size and several other features. But the line space distance is the one thing I can't seem to edit. The only solution I know of and use is exploding the dimension and then the text turns to mtext and the option becomes available. But then if the section changes to a shorter/longer area, i have to go through several steps with the exploded lines. how to edit the line space distance for the annotation in the dimensions. i have also attached a pic of my issue as well.

Is it possible to override a dimension with some sort of formula or function that relates to the length of the dimension?
A simple linear scaling might be possible by inventing a new unit with the appropriate conversion ratio, but that wouldn't work. What I need for the dimension to display a length 400 less than the actual length.

Is it possible to change the length of a line based on the length of an attribute?
I'd like to make the line a MINIMUM length of X" (I haven't decided how long yet--but know I'll need a minimum). But then after the user fills in the attribute, I'd like the length of the line to change to the length of the attribute plus a small amount (again, I haven't decided yet how much extra).

I was wondering if there is a way with DB's to have a line "follow" or "grow" with the content/value length of an attribute. Maybe some method of linking the attribute width to length of the line? Essentially, it would work just like turning on the underline setting when typing in mtext editor (or any program with an underline option for that matter), expect that the line could be placed anywhere, and would not have to reside directly below the text.

In 2012 Autocad, cannot change from model space to paper space, or paper space to model space without locking up in several drawings.
In 2012 Autocad, cannot change from model space to paper space, or paper space to model space without locking up in several drawings.
I can log into another user's computer and open the file fine. But when i use my computer or a brand new computer fitting all Auto CAD specs, it locks up. When I plot I have to reset my settings to the PTE standards every time.
I now get CAD errors when CAD is not even open. Also VTPSUHM barely works. I generally have to restart my computer several times to get it to work.

I am a landscape architect trying to xref in civil backgrounds. I have noticed twice now from two different civil firms that some of the civil symbols (dynamic blocks) are having visibility issues in paper space. No the viewport layers are not turned off or frozen. No the views weren't placed using the sheet set manager. Yes the blocks are created on layer zero and yes the associated layer is not off or frozen. I don't believe these blocks are annotative blocks. They appear, as expected, perfectly clear in model space. I just toggel over to paper space and "poof" they've disappeared.

I'm trying to create a block that reads the x and y coordinates of a point from the end of a leader. Which is fine and easy enough if I use the block in the same space.. ie model space or paper space (layout tab).
However I wan't to be able to capture the coordinate from the model space, through the viewport, and pass it onto the block in Paper Space. Is this possible?
Or is it a case of having to use a more LISP based approach?

I have a solid hatch that is in model space (actually in an xref in model space). When I use multileaders (in paper space) and point into the hatched area, that part of the multileader becomes hidden. As if it was a layering or object arrangement issue.

I have several viewports rotated in paper space. When i set them to let say 1:100 scale go to paper space and then click into viewport it comes back to zoom extends of model space and i have to set it all up again and rotate it.
Second problem is that I've created wipeout in model space when i go to layout (paper space) ti looks just how i want it.
When I go to preview or plot it doesn't recognise any wipeouts?
