AutoCAD Visual LISP / AutoLISP :: Fail To Use Third Party Software To Select Objects
Oct 11, 2013I have a problem in using a LISP program to use a tool from a third party software. We use a third party software in AutoCAD to draw objects on AutoCAD drawing (HVAC duct work). Because the objects are stored in the drawing in the format that only the third party software can understand, we rely on using the tools from the third party software to operate on their objects. That third party software is designed for many customers, and we are just one of their customer. Therefore, we cannot expect the third party software to have everything that we want. We want to develop a LISP program to automate our process to meet our specific needs. That LISP program will need to use the tools from the third party software in order to operate on their objects. And that is where the problem starts.
We have a piece of duct that has a duct body and a piece number tag. I have the entity handle of the duct body in our database. And I can use it to select the duct body using plain LISP program. But I don't know a way to select the piece number tag that is corresponding to the duct body. I have examined the properties of the duct using (entget (car (entsel))). But I cannot find an obvious way to link from the duct body to the piece number tag. This means I have to use a selection-tool from the third party software to select the piece number tag of the duct that I have selected using LISP. Unfortunately, I find that the third party selection-tool doesn't seem to work if I call it right in the middle of a LISP program. On the other hand, it works if I use it manually (outside LISP) or if it is used right before the LISP program is terminated. I don't understand why it doesn't work in the middle of a LISP program. I asked the developer of the third party software, and he said that this could not be done without rewriting the entire software.
By the way, I call that third party selectin-tool by either manually clicking at a button or using a C# program to simulate a mouse click at the button. Either way, the result is the same.

Dec 6, 2011I have the below code (from a user here on the forum) which works great for aligning text, mtext and blocks to 2 points. For annotative entities, it respects the rotation angle for mtext and text.
ie I have an mtext object at 1"=20' scale and at 1"=40' scale. I run the command when the current annotative scale is 1"=40'. The object at 40' scale has changed, but the 20' scale is unchanged. This is working as I would like it to.
But for annotative blocks, it gets weirded out. In the above example, the block at 40' will rotate, but so will the attributes at 20' scale. But linework and hatching at 20' scale will be unchanged. it looks really weird. how to get it to play nice with blocks. Ideally, I'd like the block to be at different rotation angles in different annotative scales.

AutoCAD Visual LISP / AutoLISP :: Attribute Height Is Changing Each Time Routine Is Run With An Annotative Block
Apr 30, 2012I only do programming when absolutely needed so it usually only happens every couple years. I wrote this routine to count nested blocks inside of dynamic blocks to count parking spaces. The routine worked fine but was relying on the ltscale to scale a block containing an attribute for the total number of spaces. I want to update the routine to use an annotative block so the scale doesn't have to be set. I changed my block containing the attribute but now when I run my routine, the attribute height gets changed each time the routine is run. The text just gets larger and larger. Here is the portion of the routine where the attribute info is gathered and updated with the new value for that attribute. If you need the entire routine, I can post it with a slight modification so it will work outside our network.

But if I've got a lot of attributes to change, it takes awhile to complete.
I know about BATTMAN but I do not want to change the block entities in that way. The reason I want to change the attributes to colour 252 is because here at this company we do existing drawing in colour 252 and any new equipment on its proper layer colours.
