I am working with an application (written in Delphi) that interfaces to AutoCAD via AutoLisp and automation. The app is localized using translation strings that are stored in a database. We are working on translating the menus and dialogs on the AutoCAD side. The menus are no problem as it is easy to change the Label property of the menu items in code on the fly. However I haven't been able to find anything similar for the dialogs. Other then rewriting the DCL file on-the-fly is there any way to programmatically change the labels on the dialogs?

I would like to link an AutoCAD table to an Excel file with the first method described in this page:
[URL]
I know the filename of the Excel spreadsheet and the range as well.
Is there a way to make a script that links the table and then detach the link after that ?

I figured out how to entmake a Block with attributes based on user input for insert point, rotation, etc.
My block is a detail bubble that is a circle with a tail, that cuts the object and shows direction of cut. I will include that with this post.
My problem lies in this. I've used dynamic block features such as linear for the tail length, and the cut length, and angle for the direction of the tail.
My old routine was simple, it would ask for detail point and angle. From that it would insert a block that was just the bubble and draw the tail and cut with a polyline.
Since then I've been able to use entmake, which is a lot more powerful for creating entities in AutoCAD. But for the life of me I can't figure out how to add the dynamic properties of my "new" detail block that has the tail, cut and bubble in one.
what I need in the entmake statement to make this create programmatically instead of inserting the block, then modifying it, if possible.

Is there any way to grab the Object ID or name from a layout tab to use in a field? I wish to link the layout name to a callout block so that if the layout tab changes position and name (inserting a new tab), the call out block will update no matter what page it is on. Without using the Sheet Set manager.

I want to move a large 3D steel file on top of a 2D architectural background. The ISSUE is that when i move it (in plan view "aka top view") the X,Y coordinates change AND the Z coordinate changes... But, I want the Z coordinate to stay the same . I wrote a LISP file that doesnt seem to work (SEE BELOW):
(defun C:MoveXY (/ PT1 PTB PT2)(setvar "CMDECHO" 0)(setq PT1 (getpoint "
Specify Base Point or [Displacement] Displacement: ")PTB (getpoint "
Specify second point or <use first point as displacement>: ")PT2 (list (car PTB)(cadr PTB)(cddr PT1)))(command "_.MOVE" (SSGET) "" PT1 PT2))
It seems my issue comes when i get to the command line (ssget) seems to mess it all up . How to use the ".Move" command with the (ssget) function?

I have been looking around the web to find a quick lsp routine that will take all the xrefs in a drawings and move them back onto layer "xref" or "0" depending on what the design team wants.
The ones I have found don't work or move all the xrefs to separate layers.

I want to know the correct way to find the offset origin of a layout in an AutoCAD drawing. Let say I have a drawing that has many items on it. And I create a layout showing just the items in the lower right corner of the drawing. I want to know the offset origin of this layout relative to the Model space.
I came across some LISP commands that are supposed to do just that:
(vl-load-com)(setq activelayout (vlax-get (vla-Get-ActiveDocument (vlax-Get-Acad-Object)) 'ActiveLayout ))(setq activeplotorig (vlax-get activelayout 'PlotOrigin))
Unfortunately, the commands don't seem to work because it always returns (0.0 0.0). That cannot be right.

I need to select all the viewports in the drawing and to make some changes with them, I'm planning to select them all with ssget command. If I do that I will have one viewport for the paperspace itself in every layout. One of my question is, how to know which viewport is the paperspace itself?
Second question is, how to get the name of layout in which one is the viewport? It is important to me that the lisp is really fast, so I'm planning to do the most of stuffs with vla commands.

I find that the command to move objects to a different layers runs very slow in one of the drawing. I want to find out what wrong with the drawing and how to speed things up.
I have a LISP program that batch processes a large number of drawings. One of the step to process each drawing is to change the colors of some objects according to the status of the objects. I do this by moving the objects to a later that has the right color. So far the program only takes 2 to 4 minutes to process each drawing. But the program takes close to 90 minutes to process one specific drawing. I track down the problem has to do with the command that moves the objects to the right layer, like this:
(vl-cmdf "_.chprop" (ssget) "" "_layer" "ABC-Prod-Good-Pcs" "")
This command takes a very long time to finish, like 40 minutes each time it runs (to move 1200+ objects), and the program needs to run it twice for a total of approximately 80 minutes.
Please note that the drawing itself is not the largest drawing, and it doesn't have the largest number of objects to be moved either. It is close to the top-5 drawings in term of drawing size and the number of objects to be moved. I cannot say that the drawing size or the number of objects to be moved are the cause of the problem.
I tried to "speed up" by moving 200 objects incrementally. That didn't work. I tried to "speed up" by moving 100 objects incrementally and saving the drawing after each 100 objects are moved. That didn't work either; actually the speed is slightly slower than simply moving 1200+ objects all at once.
I don't know what to do. I believe there may be something unusual about that drawing. By the way, the reason why I choose to change color by moving objects to a different layer has to do with the fact that I have found this is the best way so far. I tried to change the color of the objects directly. But I find that the color of some sub-parts of the objects are not changed (because their color is by-layer). That's why I choose to change color by moving objects to a different layer.
How I can check the drawing, any different way to change color that is better.

I am having trouble moving an object a certain distance. The distance is defined by a pre-defined variable. I just can't figure out the syntax for the autolisp command.
Here is the bit of code if written, there is more code not shared here that defines the points for the polyline .
;-- the varaible box_height is defined earlier in the routine
;-- Draw the polyline for the top of the cabinet
(command "pline" p1tt P2tt P3tt P4tt P5tt P6tt P7tt P8tt "c")
;-- Assign the new part a variable name
(setq cab_toppl (entlast))
;-- Extrude the polyline to make the top of the cabinet
(command "extrude" cab_toppl "" cab_intw "0")
;-- Assign the new part a variable name
(setq cab_top (entlast))
;-- Rotate the top of the cabinet down to the floor of cabinet
(command "rotate3d" cab_top "" 2 p1tt p2tt 90)
;-- Move the top of the cabinet to the final location
;-- HERE IS THE PART I'M HAVING TROUBLE WITH. ESSENTIALLY ONCE THE PART IS CREATED I'VE NAMED IT CAB_TOP AND AM NOW TRYING TO MOVE IT IN THE Z AXIS THE DISTANCE DEFINED BY THE VARIABLE BOX_HEIGHT WITHOUT USER INPUT
(command "move" cab_top "" "0,0,0" (list (0 0 (box_height) "")
;--THIS PART IS OKAY
(setvar "CLAYER" oldlayer) ;restore active layer
(setvar "BLIPMODE" 1)
(setvar "OSMODE" 135)

What I'd like are the coordinates of two nodes the object contains...
Is it possible to apply the autocad cursor in some why with the node object snap to get their coordinates?

I’m trying to create a view port, which covers my entire layout (white/ page area) using the following command
(command “mview” ‘(0 0 0) ‘(297.5 210 0))
However as you will note 0,0,0 is not the very edge corner of my layout (white area) and my white area is smaller then 297.5x 210mm (standard A4 landscape size)
How to obtain the exact measurements and starting coordinates to fully fill my entire layout page (white area)?

okay, I need a way to get a list of layout tabs without vl-, vla-, vlax, or LAYOUTLIST functions. Why? You ask?
This is for lisp funct that will run in AcCoreConsose. Apparently the console doesn't yet support these.
Also, need a way to check Effective name of dynamic blocks without vl-, vla- or vlax- funs also.

Any LISP routine that can create multiple paper space layout tabs and can name them incrementally. I have a template and I wanted to copy tab2 of my layout multiple times and name them incrementally. I have a code shown below that comes close to what I need it to do but it creates a "New Layout" instead of copying the tab I need it to. Please see code below:
(vl-load-com)(defun c:LAYOUT+ (/ *error* prefix i n acDoc oLayouts layoutName) (defun *error* (msg) (if acDoc (vla-endundomark acDoc) ) (cond ((not msg)) ; Normal exit ((member msg '("Function cancelled" "quit / exit abort"))) ; <esc> or (quit) ((princ (strcat "
** Error: " msg " ** "))) ; Fatal error, display it ) (princ) ) (if (and (setq prefix (getstring "
Enter layout name prefix: "))

I have a drawing with various layouts that when I do a Zoom Extents the drawings is reduced to the size of a point.
I have done all the usual, ie: look for extra entities that are "out in space" so to speak and there are none.
I wonder if I have a block or image which may have an insertion point "out in space" and if this may be the issue.
Is there some way to Select all entities or Blocks (insertion point) that may exist outside a particular area ie: drawing limits.

I have used Autocad since 1991, and my current job required me to use Microstation. One feature I liked from Microstaiton is the ability to select and open an external DGN reference, and then match the view of the parent DGN. In AutoCAD, you can also select and open an xref, but the DWG opens to the previous saved view, and not to the desired view that matches the layout.
My thought was to experienting with lisp or scipt and export the "Viewctr", "Viewtwist" and "Viewsize" variables to a text file, then importing the text file and using the "Viewtwist" as my "SNAPANG" value, then "Viewctr" as my "ZOOM, CENTER" value, and finally the "Viewsize" as the "Enter magnification or height:" value.
But, alas, have no time, and not quite the knowledge to duplicate MicroStation's open-xref-and-zoom-to-view feature.
