View 1 RepliesWhen inserting a content center part for which we have to choose a material, we would like to have a custom material as a default (material with name: "No material selected"). So when selecting no material for this part (for example when the user forgets to select a specific material), the default material (in this case material "No material selected") will be active. In this way, we can see in one view across the BOM which parts have no material assigned yet.
How can this be achieved in the content center (editor)?

I have recently started playing with the new materials and appearances browsers - what a nightmare.
So I created a custom library as described in the "Materials and Appearances" whitepaper from Autodesk.
Bottom left corner of material browser > create new material
> edit material: change its name, density etc
Why can I not add it to the new custom library - from document materials?I tried to drag and drop - no success.
I tried to right click > add to > xxx material library - no success. It does however let me drag and drop to the "favorites".
Inventor Professional 2014.
Windows 7 64 bit.
I have gone thru what appears to be the correct steps in creating a custom material library a total of 3 times.
Once I finish customizing the library while in Inventor, I add it to my project file and make it the "active" library. I test it with each of my part & assembly templates on my local machine without an issue. When I log into another work station, locate and add the new library to their project file Inventor gives me a "no materials found". So I go back to my machine to check and the library is no longer valid for me either.
I can see the library on the server, the file size is 3.6MB so it has substance. I cannot figure out what I am doing that is causing the library from locking up completely when I try to use it with another work station. Also, if any way to make my library usable again that would save me about 8 hours of work.
all of our stations use the "generic.ipj" project file.
I've made my own material library containing a short list of materials from the Inventor default library. And I have set my Project ipj to use it as the default library. All works OK. But, every time I make a new project ipj I have to go find my custom library adsklib file to add it to the project. Is there a certain folder the adsklib file need to live in so that new projects will pick it up automatically?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhere the proper location to store custom images for new custom materials? We do not use vault and I currently store everything locally. I found where Inventor stores all of the material library images in C:Program Files (x86)Common FilesAutodesk SharedMaterialsTextures. In that "Textures" folder there are Inventor material images stored in folders named "1","2 "and "3". Should I paste my custom image in all three folders, or a completely different location? I need Inventor to find this material and image for every new project so I save it to my library but I do not know where to store the image.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am looking for ways to add actual custom materials - not (just) in appearance, but in actual material properties (elasticity, etc). I have looked at wiki and searched this forum (and others) but I haven't been able to find anything of the sort... but the properties of the few aluminium alloys available are not those that we use... besides that we need them at specific temperature ranges (and honestly, I haven't been able to find any temperature controls in the FEA yet either.) And.. is there a more direct, faster, way to assign materials then [big I Pro button] > iPropperties > Physical? Right click on the solid and selecting "material" seems so much more ideal.

When I implemented Inventor Pro 2013 I added all our custom materials to the Inventor Material Library. This library is not local but on a shared network drive that everyone in my company can access. You can clearly see that it is not locked and is write enabled. I dragged the local material to the library and I shows up in the library. When I close and exit Inventor and re-open, it is no longer available.
You can clearly see by my screen capture that the new material was added to the library. Why isn't is updating the library?
I have managed our Inventor styles and libraries for Inventor since 2003 (R5) and I never had as much problems getting my mind to wrap around this new appearances change that Autodesk has made. I have wasted 4 hours this morning trying to add a simple custom material to my library and I cannot.
I have created the Custom library of ISO bolts by adding the Material to existing ISO library using the Material Guide.
The goal is to make bolts black and anodized to be more specific with purchase orders from very beginning.
After the adding the material everything is working good except the auto drop. There is a wide Table pop ups with a lot of unnecessary info.
Is it possible to choose the columns to represent there? I mean leave just Material or Part Number ?

I duplicated one of the standard plastic materials in Revit's lib and replaced the color with a cutom image (first tried jpg then png). I had to tweak the transforms to get it to fit the screen. Looks great in the camera view but when I render the transforms are off.
Here are some images to illustrate the issue.
I am trying to take a custom counter I created as a family and have it show a material in my project. It seems that no matter how I apply the material parameter to the family type object, type or instanced, the material does not change in the project when I apply any new material. I have opened up other countertops I have used from the Revit Default Casework Family and I can't seem to find a difference in the setup between mine and Revit. I wanted to use an instanced parameter so I can change the material per room where the object is used.

In short, custom content center parts are incorrectly categorized as "Content Center" and automatically released - as there is no property that we can use to identify these files.

I am trying to create custom Materials in Inventor 2013. I have been able to create the custom appearances I want use on the materials and store them in the Inventor Materials Library.
After creating the custom appearance, Ive created new materials. When I try to change to new material appearance from default to my custom appearance, upon hitting the 'apply' button I get an error message which reads, 'failed to updated style'.
Can't seem to locate the Inventor Material Library....under Default in Projects, the Inventor Material Library is highlighted in Red. Where I need to browse to inorder to locate it?

We are a mid sized company the builds our parts from raw materials. Steel Coils, Steel tubing, Steel plate, etc.
We are have been migrating from MDT to Inventor over the last few years. We are now trying to implement Vault and integrate that data into our ERP system. We would like to model a part and assembly and check that into Vault then pass the BOM into our ERP system.
It all sounds good up until I looked at how our part files were structured. There is not BOM in an ipt that I have found phantom or referential. Here is my problem
It takes 1 lb of a .0625" thich steel sheet that is 6.5" wide. We stamp our product in a 200 ton press producing a finish componet.Problem 1- Part1.ipt (model of my stamping) does not have a lower level it is a component in Inventor there is no BOM that I have found.Problem 2 - Part2.iam uses part1ipt but we punch a hole in it and push material outward to create a lip so we can lap weld the next part. When I try to extrude this feature I can only cut the part I cannot add material or deform it in any way.Problem 3 - We also manufacture bent tubes. We consume 1.5 ft of part C to make part D. I cannot insert 1.5ft of a part that is 20ft long as we buy it. then we bend it. I cannot insert a 1.5ft part into an assembly and then bend it.
Major problem - even though I can change the dwg file or idw file to add a parts list Vault does not put this information in the Item master BOM.
We have a general template (excel file) for material list. Is there way to connect this template with inventor. Or alternatively change the inventor BOM list to suite our template?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a user that has created a new material which is now sitting as a local style. We require this new material in the library so that everyone can use it. I tried RMB on it but the save to library functon is greyed out. This is due to the styles being read only in the project file. So I have tried to change the project file so we can add the style and then I'd change it back again, but, even though I have checked out the project file from vault, it won't allow me to edit it. What else can be locking the project file? Is there some other way I can place the new material into the style library in the project file? There are quite a few of us that use the project file since we use vault, so I'm not sure I should create a new one with the same name and save over it.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIf I need to change the material of all parts in an assembly I find it convenient to do this in the BOM. In the 'parts only' view I add the material column, change the first one and just drag it down like in Excel.
There are however some parts where the material is greyed-out (see attached image) and I cannot change them in to something else. I already traced this to parts which are present in multiple different sub-assemblies. I guess that's also the reason for the blueish/red icon instead of a normal part icon.
If I open one of the sub-assemblies the part is fine and I can change the material.

Why Inventor rename some colors/material when migrating style library from 2012 to 2013? It's very annoying (and stupid in my opinion).
And Inventor said me "Some color/materail was renamed". Yeah good information but can you said me which color was renamed?!?
Does the developpers think about Vault when changing those color? What is the impact on the file (edited out of turn by example...).
Our customers have many colors who become differents when migrating to 2013 and it's not acceptable.
