My parts list on my idw do not update when I make changes to the model. Specifically, I have deleted a bolted connection on my design and replaced with a different components but the parts list table does not update - all I see is a lightning bolt in the browser next to the parts list but I cannot update it here.

Was wondering what program people use to create parts manuals for the Inventor models.

This above snapshot shows my output
Here besides all parts/assemblies i get Semi-Colons and Numbers rather than consolidated view For this part in fig

Two different problems (questions). These are IV2012 files but the problems are the same in 2013.
Open the two attached ipt's. Launch the Measure Distance tool and measure between the blue an red face on the DimTest. It should read 1 inch.
Change to DimTest Derive using the tabs on the status line. Measure still gives 1 in. Change precision to All Decimals. The mouse pointer changes to calipers and the distance now measure 1.004 (which is correct)
Switch back to DimTest again using the tabs.
Measure again and notice the mouse pointer still shows the calipers which imply that it is going to return all decimals but the dimension given is still just 1 inch. Either the mouse pointer should change back or all decimals should stick.
OpenDimTest.dwg. Manage> Modify> Replace Model Reference and pick DimTestDerive.
ALL dims disappear and the origin indicator goes sick.
Completed a project. Wanted to show the customer the end result and go over changes on my laptop. Copied the directory to my laptop. None of the Nuts & bolts will show up on the laptop version. Got a new desktop computer. Same problem. My completed version doesn't show the content center items, Hence drawings & assemblies are always un-resolved. How can I get the Content center files to show up without deleting and reinserting the items.
Also how can I make the content center parts I place into the model reside in the local path.
In our “Parts list” (or BOM as we call it) on our .idw’s we have field for “LENGTH”. For example, we use round tubing. We would list the cut length of that piece of tube in the “LENGTH” column. As it stands now, we add “LENGTH” as a custom iproperty in the .ipt. Then in the drawing we add that property to the parts list to capture the length. This works fine, but I’m wondering if we can eliminate some steps by capturing the actual dimension from the sketch to automatically populate the “LENGTH” value. Needless to say, this would eliminate room for error (less typing) and will update the value automatically if length is changed or if the part is copied. I suppose the same would apply for “WIDTH” on sheet metal parts... How do I do this?
View 9 Replies View Relatedwhat I do need clarification on is the statement in this warning "One or more bodies which are thing being treated as solids". Does this mean that the bodies that were detected fall under the criteria for being a Midsurface or Offset and that the user has the opportunity to apply these commands in order to make the analysis more accurate? So if I were to ignore this and continue with my analysis, the members will still be treated as a solid and not as a shell and/or surface (which is what the Midsurface/Offset command produces)? The members I am using that have triggered this warning are HSS 2x2x0.125 x 12' long.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a pressure vessel which I am trying to analyse. Whenever I convert the solid into 'thin bodies', it loses some of the data. For example, a fillet and a supporting ring (refer to pic attached). I haven't been able to find any 'shell element' settings to adjust.
Also, I need to manually add contacts otherwise the vessel seperates into multiple bodies.
Even though the solid model is in contact, the 'midsurface' shell seperates it. Refer to part file attached.
I briefly tried to run the analysis as a solid model, but gave up as it was taking forever just to mesh.
Adding of a single bolted connection using design accelerator is painfully slow, each command is taking up to 3 minutes? It's in Inventor 2012 by the way

When working in detail drawings inventor progessivly gets slower, the more information on the drawing, the worse it gets.I was watching the task manager, For ANY command, the 1st core runs at 100% for up to 30 seconds, while this is happening, Inventor is dead.
EG, add a revision row, delete a symbol, zoom in or out, pan, add a dimension, move a leader etc.for each command/move takes 10 to 30 seconds to get control, it took me 45 minutes, to add a revision row and print 15 drawings this morning.
Thinwall tubing in the Frame Generator? On a daily basis we use 2x2 sq. Tubing .065 wall.
Everything in there is 3/16 and thicker. We wind up modeling everything and not using the Frame Generator at all
which would reduce design times greatly.
I'm trying to do a stress analysis on assembly with a mixture of thin bodies and solid bodies. The problem is that when I create the automatic contacts they are created as either all thin body or all solid body contacts. This of course causes the analysis to fail. It appears that there is no way to make a thin body contact become a solid body contact or vice versa.
I tried to run the entire thing as solid bodies but the I had to stop the analysis after 18 hours of continuous processing. (and a memory upgrade)
Inventor 2014.
When you measure something with the distance command, according to the type of file, the last zoom you did, your graphic card and probably the speed of the wind, the little red line won't show.
Normally when you measure something, a thin red line is shown were the distance is calculated. But in my laptop, and both pc's of my client, Inventor shows this line only in parts, not in assemblies. I've got a Quadro 2000M, my client got Quadro FX 1700 and 1800, all with the recommended drivers.
So I tried with 3 other laptops. On one of them (with a K2000M) if you do a measure right after the file open, it give you the line, if you zoom with the measure command open, the line disappear and won't show again until you close and open the file again. But if you zoom without the command active, the line is shown normally. But it's not working like that on all machines.
What is the best way to reduce the file size of an Inventor IAM 3D Model when exporting to a DWG format? My client only needs a couple of 2D views in order to take measurements in AutoCAD.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an extruded sketch pattern that I have tried to make modification to via the 'edit pattern' function. When making ajustments to the pattern and clicking ok Inventor is taking nigh on 2 hours to complete the function. Then I have to finish sketch which takes another hour or so. Obviously it should not be taking this amount of time. The part in question is a series of extruded holes, nothing excessivly complex, why this is taking so much time to complete ? I'd like to make an animation of a thin copper wire being wound onto a pulley. Is this possible in Inventor? I'm not sure Inventor will allow the thin wire to be bent. I can imagine other ways to make the animation, but I'd much rather have the wire bend around the pulley as the pulley rotates.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an assembly of multi-thickness, thin sheets, essentially welded together. (see image attachment)
One component is composed of land and bay areas, a single planar sheet where the edges are thin, and the central body is thickened.
I can get Inventor to treat the remaining multi-thickness, right angle components as midplane by going with separate bodies.
The top plate is a single planar sheet, and Inventor will not treat it properly as a mid-planed plate.
Will Inventor translate the constraints properly if I build the thin region separate from the central thicker region in order to produce feasible mid-planed mesh?
Question already posted by other in forum - using local control to develop multiple element thicknesses through cross section of plate (by thin face selection), one cannot verify that the smaller elements along the cross section are built properly through the entire component.
the legs seem to be missing bits. They were fine and then i added the seat and back and suddenly parts of the leg vanished??? Still not there when i render.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a mech/mfg-necessary pattern set on several parts, to the tune of about 90 slots and 500 holes each. Inventor is absolutely sucking it up handling these parts, and the assembly of these parts together is just a complete nightmare.
I have half-hour load times, constant crashes, and to top it off, they're iparts (used in an iassembly), which means I am constantly having to regenerate the whole part family with every change, a process that can take literally hours.
Are there substitute tricks, or display setting shenanigans I can pull? All of the features are individually needed somewhere, but no mgf machine needs all of them present at once.
how to show a good representation (quick and easy) of a knockout on a thin steel part?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am trying to replace a custom part - created from a content center part - with a copied part with a different name. (I am using the replace tool in an assembly.) However, Inventor is not replacing the part with the part I pick but rather the content center version of it.
View 3 Replies View RelatedOn the main sheet of my drawing I have the overall Parts List. Shows almost all parts except for the few that we don't want to list. On the second sheet I inserted a Parts List to show only parts that are shown in a detail on that page, made the rest non-visible.
On the main sheet there is an item (#13) that has a QTY of 3. Two of those Three are optional parts. What I'm trying to do is insert a custom part into the Parts List, give it an item number of 13A and put in the description "OPTIONAL", then do an Override in the balloon to show 13A.
I get it in the Parts List, Apply it, close it, save the drawing. Looking at the Parts List, item #13A is there, but item #14 is gone. I go back into the Parts List and 13A is there and there's a blue box around the item # and the description. I uncheck Static Value and number 14 shows up (item # and the description).
Then I go over to sheet two, open that Parts List and it lists 13A at the bottom with all the info I added in sheet one and it's non-visible. Go back to sheet one, open the Parts List and there is no 13A to be found.
I am working on an assembly that is designed around a box (bounding box) that could change size. I modeled the bounding box and placed it in a new assembly file. All other parts have been created within the assembly by referencing that bounding box with starting work plane and project geometry.
The problem comes in when I change the bounding box dimensions. The work planes for each additional part, which were defined by the faces of the bounding box, do not move when the sides move. Also, my projected geometry is not updating correctly. This is a simple box, with all 90° corners. So, all associated parts (at this point) are just rectangles.
I was using virtual parts to add nuts and bolts to a drawing in 2013
I can make a VP bolt in the assembly, no problem, set it's size, weight, etc.
In the VP itself, there is no option for number of bolts I want it to emulate. For arguement's sake the weight was 1 pound per bolt (they are big bolts).
I can go into the BOM and say quantity 60, hit done and save the assembly.
If i open the drawing, the parts lists shows 60lbs for the 60 bolts total - which it should when summing the weight.
The problem is the BOM/assembly. If the weight of my assembly (without bolts) is 10,000lbs, the assembly sees the VP weighing 1lb and says the total weight is 10,001 lbs. Am i going to have to pattern a fake part to get this to work right? Shouldn't the total weight take into account the quantity set in the Bom??
Is there a way to display the density of materials that are assigned to varius parts in the parts list on a drawing? I don't need the mass of the parts I just need the material density to show up next to their respective parts.
For example, if I have a part with [steel mild] material assinged to it (no matter the size) I need a column in the BOM on the drawing to show: 490.684 lbs/ft^3. "Worry when there's something to worry about."
today I encountered a very disturbing problem while using AutoCad 2014. I was preparing a complex 3d model and suddenly parts started to vanish on a certain zoom. It was very irritating but the biggest prolem is that after turning it off and on again, those parts are completely missing from the model (without saving).
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have an assembly with a lot of purchased parts. I need to create a buy out list for purchasing. I've done this many times in the past and have a template set up for this purpose.
So now the problem, In this assembly, I have subassemblies showing up on my parts only parts list.
One of the subassemblies cinsists of two purchased parts. Both parts are set to purchased in the Bill of materials. If I do a parts only list on this assembly, it works as expected, showing two purchased parts. However, if I put that assembly into a higher level assembly, A parts only parts list shows the assembly instead of the individual parts.

Been working over an idw MANY times due to project lag.Today I opened it up and tried adding balloons to an already ballooned assembly.
The parts list has not changed, and is "structured".But, if I try adding balloons, they tag each part, not the entire assembly.
Also, I verified this by trying to add another parts list, which defaults to "parts only".
I can't show my data set, b/c it's HUGE, plus it's proprietary.

I have a .idw that I'm trying to make a parts list on. I select parts list and highlight everything. There are two screws that are not showing up on the parts list. I cannot select them manually either. It's acting like they are not there. Even if I do a complete parts list (adding the assemblies parts into one big list), they still don't show up.
How can I select these parts? What is wrong with them that they do not show up in the parts list?
