View 2 RepliesWhy is it that when I create a dimension across geometry the dimension shows true, yet if I create sketched geometry in the drawing view it does not?
What I need to do is create an arc of swing for a door. So I create a sketched arc and then want to dimension the arc radius of the door, yet the dimension shows not true. How do I make it true? And why can't I snap to model geometry in the drawing view?
When I create a new sketch on any given view and utilize the 'Project Geometry' command, not all geometry will project onto the sketch. It seems random; I've tried multiple times using different orders in which to choose the geometry. Sometimes certain geometry will project, sometimes not.

I have a situation where there was a modified balloon with an overridden part number that was causing some confusion. Is it possible to toggle a setting, like how you can select Overridden Inventor dimensions, to find any overridden balloon objects? Need to save some time performing a manual, visual search.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI want to add the Balloon Renumbering function to our templates using iLogic, but when I run it I get an error message saying: "The parameter is incorrect. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070057 (E_INVALIDARG))". I have narrowed it down and think it has to do with the following line: partInfo(i - 1).Number = drawBOMRow.Item(itemColumn).Value. When I remove that line I don't get an error message, but every balloon is set to item no 0. The function I want to achieve with the code is to renumber separate part files against the assembly BOM.

Any easy or more reliable way of getting balloons to stay in the direction you want?
In the image i've attached you can see what normally happens when dragging a balloon in position on the left and what i desire (and accomplish after a lengthy fight) on the right.
Is there a way to make a balloon (3.30.4 in this case) go into the desired direction without having to fight with it?

I need to either add a custom balloon to a 3D wiring harness (made of individual wires) or add a split balloon (showing item number then sheet number) to my layout. What I have now is a 3D harness with all my connectors shown on it and a balloon calling out what connector it is. I want to attach a custom split balloon to my connector callouts to reference the wire and sheet number of another sheet in the same project. I should also mention that there are tons of connectors that as far as Inventor is concerned is the same model.
I've already created a user symbol to attemp to work around it but I can't attach the custom symbol to the existing balloon.
Secondly, why can't I attached a balloon to the 3D harness anyway. I also can't add a balloon to the nailboard view either!
How do you show associated BOM quantities on balloons in the drawing?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI want my custom property to defined as item #. That Item # then is represented in the balloon.
reasoning is that then engineers wont have to check drawings anymore for the guess work involved in matching the part balloon to each individual part in the assembly being called out.
I can then focus on creating a BOM that shows the different item#'s and the user can quickly go through it.
We want to ensure that a balloon callout exists for every item in the parts list (BOM) in our assembly drawings. Is there a way to easily do this?
Currently, if we have an assembly with 30 parts, we manually search for each of the 30 BOM balloon to verify that none were missed. Since the balloons are not in order, balloon 5 could be on page 2 while 6 is on page 8. This method is often time-consuming and error prone.
It probably goes without saying, but if ballons are missed, then assemblers have nothing to show them were the parts go and either come ask us or guess.
I'm using Map 3D 2012 with Oracle 11g. I created an enterprise project with an industry model with water and wastewater modules. After this i created my feature classes and defined the utility model linking the geometry feature class to the attribute ones (ex: WA_POINT to WA_ARMATURE, WA_VALVE, WA_HYDRANT etc.).
At this moment i have to import a large amount of data from *.shp or *.sdf files, but theese files contain geometric and attribute data together.
How can i import the geometry from the shp or sdf file to the geometry feature class (ex: WA_POINT) and the attributes to the attribute feature class (ex: WA_VALVE), while creating the reference between the geometry and attribute feature classes?
I tried bulk-copying the geometry, but it doesn't create the coresponding attribute feature.
How to make Quantity to be represented less precise in the balloon.
I mean to make less zeros after the dot. The upper balloon row is Quantity.
In Inventor 2012, you could choose Balloon, select a part, click at some location and the Balloon was placed and finished. Now in Inventor 2013 you have to right-click and choose Continue. The same applies, when you want to place a Leader Text (and maybe elsewhere as well).
Why do we suddenly have to make two additional clicks compared to Inventor 2012. It doesn't work, that you can press Enter instead of the additional mouse clicks.
And why is the Open Drawing moved to second level. The Marking Menu is of no use, especially not in the tree browser.
Why do you Inventor designers make such changes that make Inventor more annoying to operate compared to the previous version. It should be the other way around....like the brilliant inclusion of Open Drawing.
The company I am working for has dragged their CAD kicking and screaming into the late nineties and have upgraded to 3D! Recreate their drawings using 3D models, I have noticed the symbol gallery doesn't provide such things as Rev Balloons or Rev Triangles.
View 1 Replies View RelatedHow do I attach text to a balloon? For example, I want to add the text "2X" alongside the balloon to denote that there are 2 instances of this part.
I can't believe that you need to make a text box each and every time you need to do this! There has to be a simpler way.
is there a way to explode a sketched symbol??? what i would like to do is place a sketched symbol with text from a custom iproperty, once placed it loses the link to the custom iproperty and is just dumb text.
View 6 Replies View Related1) Is it possible to add a pull down menu in a prompted sketched symbol to select predetermined values instead of typing them ourselves? I would like for the symbol to behavior to be similar to a cad dynamic block.
2) I'm looking to know if we can add simple rules in prompted entries? What I wish to accomplish is to have a default value that fits our need 80% of the time and for exceptions we can write in a different value when prompted. I know we can edit text after inserting symbols but we are rushed quite often and manual editing can be forgotten.
I am having a small issue with getting the correct text from a sketched symbol in an IDW. I can populate the dialog box OK when i hard code the Sketched Symbol definition. The issue i have is the sketched symbol may have been inserted 3, 5 or more times and i need to extract the text from the last inserted definition. So by setting a simple counter i can count how many time the Sketched Symbol has been inserted and then by running the code below i can read the text.
Set oPESS = oPEDoc.ActiveSheet.SketchedSymbols.Item(oCount)
oSSPE1 = oPES.GetResultText(oPES.Definition.Sketch.TextBoxes.Item(1))
oSSPE2 = oPES.GetResultText(oPES.Definition.Sketch.TextBoxes.Item(2))
oSSPE3 = oPES.GetResultText(oPES.Definition.Sketch.TextBoxes.Item(3))
oSSPE4 = oPES.GetResultText(oPES.Definition.Sketch.TextBoxes.Item(4))
All fine so far but and here is the real issue if ther have been other sketched symbols inserted in to the IDW the code above doesn't work.
What i need is a single line to replace the first line in the above code that will allow me to define the sketched symbols name and then by using the .item(oCount) (as above)to say this one extract the text from that sketched symbol.
I have imported a sketched symbol of 3rd Angle Projection symbol, however, it changes the centrelines to normal lines when placed in the template. Is there away round this problem?

Is there anyway to report a coordinate of a part in a sketched symbol.
I have a plan view and would like to be able to point to specific part and among other things, report its elevation.
While editing and updating my idw drawing, somehow a sketched symbol disappeared. I really don't care about that. But this sketched symbol had a hatch in it (a fill actually) and this fill seam to be painted on my drawing right now. I can't select it, so i can't delete it. The only way it vanishes, is when i delete the whole view, with all of the dimensioning etc. i put on it. Anyway got a clue how to delete this hatch without deleting my view?

Can we change the justification of the leader or text, so it does not finish centered on my text? I want the leader to connect outside the text box to correspond to our presentation standards.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a symbol that gets placed in a certian location on a sheet. If the sheet changes size i would like the symbol to relocate itself. Usually i could just find it, delete it and replace it but this one is different. It has 16 prompted entries that may have been populated by the user.
Easy option=Be able to move the symbol.
Difficult option=Load 16 prompted entries into the a dynamic array and replace save the symbol in the new location.
I did some reading on attributes, would adding an attribute to the sheet location allow the symbol to move with it.

I have created a sketched symbol for use in a drawing and inserted the symbol into my drawing. My user defined symbol appears in the symbols list but I cannot seem to delete it. How do I now delete this user defined sketch symbol from my drawing?

I have a lot of small parts to generate and I need to put them on A0 sheets. I have created customer borders (4 pane, 6 pane & so on), so that I can place multiple parts on one sheet.
I have several bits of information that is unique to each part, but must be indicated, so I have created sketched symbols that has model properties in. Effectively each pane on the sheet has it's own "mini title block" that displays the information unique to each part.
I also have assemblies, so therefore I need to display the BOM. I find that the BOM for the assembly "snaps" neatly into the corner of each pane, but I don't seem to be able to get the same effect with the sketched symbols. The positioning of the sketched symbols look "tatty" and once it has a leader attached (which I switch to not visible), the sketch symbol seems to snap to some sort of invisible grid.
Ultimately, I will be delivering the drawings in AutoCAD format so it will be possible to zoom up and see these mis-alignments very clearly. That makes things look very unprofessional.
Any way to position the sketched symbols neatly.

I would like to use a multi-value custom iProperty 'item_finish' in the part or assembly model to drive an iLogic rule.
'item_finish' would be 1-24 from the list.
The part file would have an embedded spreadsheet with column A corresponding to the 'item_finish'.
The spreadsheet would have column B containg long text descriptions of the finish process.
The ilogic rule must take the 'item_finish' number, find the corresponding row and then return the B column cell text to a user parameter 'defined_finish'.
The 'defined_finish' parameter can be called in a sketched symbol to describe the finish.
It appears this is all possible, but I cannot find enough information describing the snipped code requiremnets to accomplish the goal.
I am currently working on creating new symbols. Now I want to keep the look of the symbol (see attached) but I want all the text to be automated as the text is currently "prompted entry".
Now when I go into the edit the text within the symbol sketch, I need the "view label properties" from the drop down menu but its not there! Is there a way that I can get the "view label properties" into the drop down menu??? What I am after is to attach this symbol to a view and the symbol will automatically show the name of the view and the scale.
OR........ If there is any way that I can get default view label to look like my symbol?
I am trying to create a sketched symbol on the fly that has custom properties in it. I am also creating the custom properties on the fly. I need to get the actual expression for the property into the sketched symbol not just a value. I need this so that I can export the drawing as an autocad .dwg that has attributes in it.
