AutoCAD Inventor :: Add Tolerance To Holes That Are Created By IFeatures

May 22, 2013

I've got an iFeature created that's very handy.  It's basically a reamed hole with a counter bore for a purchased locating pin.

Here's the rub:  Is there a way to specify a tolerance to that hole that will come through the i Feature?  As in, I can draw the hole with a diameter of 0.501" within the definition of the iFeature.  That's easy.  However, when I do a print, I'd like to be able to just snap a leader to it that will have the "Use Part Tolerance" box checked and will reflect the correct tolerance.

As an aside, one of the reasons I want to do this is because I use Hole Tables a lot.  In a hole table, I can manually go in and change the call out for the hole to show the correct tolerance, but in order to keep the grouping together, I have to do EVERY hole individually.

AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Assemble Fasteners To All Holes Created In Single Hole Feature

Jan 18, 2012

I have a part with multiple holes created in a single hole feature (i.e. not patterned but made by selecting multiple sketch center points).  As desired, the holes all have the same size since they all fit the same fastener.  Is there a way to easily assemble fasteners to all the holes?  Currently, I am using insert for each fastener and this gets tedius if there are many holes.  Additinally, if the number of holes changes, a manual update is required.  I'm hoping there is something that works similar to associative patterns.

AutoCAD Inventor :: IFeatures - Producing A Slot

Jul 23, 2012

I am trying to produce an iFeature that can be used as a punch/slot within a sheet metal component.

I have had minor success creating basic dimples before (simple revolved features), but this time I require a more detailed feature. I haven't been able to produce this part (see attached) as an i Feature. I believe it is because I have used a loft.

What alternatives are there?   (I feel if I could get a good grasp on the limits of iFeatures that I could really make my modelling more efficient and versatile).

To be a valid Template, the interface Sketch must contain exactly 1 Hole Center.

I have a sketch with a hole center on the sheet metal part I want the iFeature in. And I tried putting a hole center on the sketch in the failing ide files but I still get the error & cannot use many of my round, square, pocket_obrounds, press rib or boss  iFeatures. By 'exporting' the parameters, I have been able to get the values to show in notes and drawing view labels but I can't find a way to add them as a 'New Property' in my hole table.

AutoCAD Inventor :: VBA - Unable To Change Tolerance Precision?

Jul 28, 2010

All the values I put in to set my tolerance are being rounded to three decimal places even though the value is four place and I am setting the dimension precision to four place.

For Example:  I have a hole of diameter 2.0466.  It is to have a tolerance of +.0005/-.0000.  When tolerance.setToDeviation is called, the .0005 is strangely forced to .001 and is set as this in the part file.  The precision value had already been set to 4 at this point.

I am using the following code in Inventor 2010:

    'Create hole feature
    Call oCompDef.Features.HoleFeatures.AddDrilledByThroughAllExtent(oLinearPlacementDef, dDiameter, kExtentDirection)
        'Get hole feature just created

I need to change one dimension using iLogic.  It changes due to the path taken to manufacture the part.  In a nutshell majority of the time the "OD" has a +.004 / .000 tolerance and the model is drawn at the minimum size.  There are cases when the "OD" has a  +.005/-.005 tolerance and is modeled at the nominal size.   I've learned some of the iLogic to make the change I'm after but not all.  I'm having trouble setting ModelValueType to change the model size.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Increase Tolerance Value - Simulation Will Change

Jul 22, 2013

I have noticed that as I increase my tolerance value in CONTACTS in the simulation settings my results will dramatically change.

My initial settings are 0.004" with SEPARATION as default. After completing the automatic constraints, I will manually bond all the necessary components such as nuts to bolts and welds to the plates.

Then if I change 0.004" to 0.5" and leave it as SEPARATION, to pick up clearance holes, etc., the result will resemble the way the assembly should behave.

But if I change the separation to 1.0" (and nothing else) then the simulation will run with results that are not correct, giving large deformations and very high stresses.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Why Don't Holes Show Up

Dec 30, 2011

I have an existing extrustion with holes in it.  All in one sketch.

I go to add an off shoot from the existing main body in the sketcher.  In that off shoot I add a circle

in the middle of the off shoot to represent a hole.  So fa so good, or at least I thought.  I exit the sketch mode

and my extrustion looks fine with the exception of the hole is not there.  Why?  Why doesn't Inventor recognise the

circle sketch as hole geometry like it does in the originally created sketch?

In Solidworks, given this same scenario, would have recogized the circle as a void and thus created a hole.

I ended up deleteing the hole out of the main sketch and doing a seperate hole cut feature.  I am sure I am missing something and in the process of learning would like to know if indead I did not do this the correct way.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Holes In Curved Surface

Sep 30, 2013

Basically I’m trying to create a circular cut in a flat pattern for a hole made in a rolled piece of sheet metal.

I have created a "case" (this is what we call it) to mount an axial fan, it will require holes for mounting the motor plate. When I create these holes in the rolled case assembly they appear to be fine, but when I flatten it they are turned into two sets of semi-circles or ellipses.

This is only a problem when we run the parts on our Laser; the laser will attempt to start the cutting at the end of each of these "semi-circles" causing a hotspot where the two semi circles meet. This causes the hole to be slightly smaller than intended in this area causing great difficulty inserting bolts, they normally require drilling.

Our material thicknesses vary from about 3mm to 8mm.

I’ve included a crude example of what I’m trying to achieve. To really see what I mean, place the file into a Drawing file and zoom into the hole. I couldn't add the file, with only 3 features the file was 5mb in size.

By the way, I have a temporary solution, it's just a little complicated. (My solution: use square holes first in the un-flat, use the diagonal lines from each corner of the square in a sketch on the flat pattern to place a circular cut on its mid points.)
