AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Widening Offset Clothoid
Jan 24, 2011Is it possible to make the widening get the exact offset to the spiral / clothoid. All I get is a linear line as shown in the picture.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Offset Alignment From Widening
Aug 5, 2013I have created a widening then created an 11-foot offset from the widening for some reason I cannot create a 22-foot offset or an d11-foot from the first offset. I can go as high as 22.5 but no more. There are no curves in the alignment only linear tapers. why I cant get to 22-feet?

Apr 18, 2012Im using civil 3d UKIE 64bit, having a serious problem with adding a lane widening to an offset alignment. It is a straight alignment approx 200m length, but when i enter the parameters that is asked, at the end it says no solution!

Mar 23, 2012I am having a problem with an overlay and widening C3D 2012 project. The sub assembly I have chosen is processing with the corridor datum surface cutting into the existing road surface, as would happen with a “milling” section (which I don’t want), I need it to overlay onto the existing surface only, with a nominal minimum thickness of 4” . I think this sub assembly is drawing the datum surface from the datum point of the widening on one side to the datum point of the widening on the other side, not sampling the "bottom" of the overlay surface.
See attached screen shot. Also attached are screen shots for some of the sub assembly and corridor parameters for my current settings. I am using the “overlaywidenmatchslope1” and “basicsideslopecutditch” subassemblies.
I have tried changing the sample point offsets and the insert point offsets without fixing this problem. I have not added any additional alignments for saw-cutting yet as I am trying to keep it simple until I get the assembly to process correctly with a fixed width.
I looked at trying the “overlaywidenmatchslope2” subassembly, but it is for non-crowned roads and would not work for this project. Are some of my parameters wrong? Is there another subassembly that I should be using?

May 14, 2012I am trying to create a station-offset label style that will drop the trailing zeros in the offset section - e.g. 15' instead of 15.00', but if the offset is not at a whole number, e.g. 15.01, etc. it will display the entire offset.
I created two expressions: IF(OFFSET-TRUNC(OFFSET)=0,.1/12,.00000001/12)
and this one: IF(OFFSET-TRUNC(OFFSET)!=0,.1/12,.00000001/12)
I then created two offset components, one called truncated, and one called full, and assigned the heights to match the expressions.
I have attached the file, the style is ACHD-Sta Off-Rt [copy]

May 3, 2012I've used the OverlayWidenMatchSlope1 subassembly to widen a new travel lane using the existing carriageway crossfall then I try to create another lane using the same assemble following the same slope but the insert point always starts on the existing ground rather the new levels from the first new widening lane.

Aug 12, 2013I am overlaying and widening an existing road, however the assembly is not behaving as I would like it too. Here is the cross section below, the widening, overlay and day lighting portions appear correct, how the Datum surface is off.
DATUM SURFACE - The datum surface is not following the existing ground in between the two road widening pavement portions. You can see the datum surface as a red line connecting the two paved widening below the existing crown of the road. I would expect the datum surface to follow bottom links of the overlay as well up through the crown, but this is not the case.
EARTHWORKS CUT/FILL SURFACE - The earthworks surface shows that the area between the existing crown and the unexpected datum link is being calculated cut/fill (cut presumably) which it shouldn't be.
ASSEMBLY BEING USED: Perhaps I am misusing the subassemblies, or link codes need to be modified.
AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Intersection Tool With Widening?
Oct 26, 2012Having issue with the intersection tool for a road widening with turn lane with new roadway intersection. Not repaving entire existing roadway, sawcutting 2' into lane then paving new turn lane. Do most people use intersection tool for road widening, or is it strictly used for new roadways.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Identifying Areas Of Widening
Jul 13, 2013I'm working on a windfarm access road (5m wide with widening at bends to 8m) and I need to identify the areas of widening.
I've got the centreline alignment and created the 2.5m offsets to each side. I have also created widening on the insides of the bends using the widening tools and used a linear taper at entry and exit. I now need to hatch up the portions where the road has been widened to demonstrate compliance with the specification and the only easy way I can see is to export to autocad and use the hatch tools (not tried to hatch between alignments).
Whilst this works it isn't dynamic so if the alignment is adjusted the widening alignments are also moved but the hatching remains.

Oct 22, 2012there has used a non-AASHTO curve widening formula to calculate automatic curve widening for an alignment? I'm trying to use our Agency curve widening formula which is a function of curve radius and central angle.
I'm not sure if it is even possible to use the central angle of the curve for calculating widening, or how one would go about using a non-AASHTO CW formula.
Attached is the curve widening formula that needs to be used. L will be a constant here.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Building Assembly For Shoulder Widening
Feb 1, 2013I am building an assembly for a shoulder widening. the sholder is 5' paved plus 5' stabalized tying to existing grade at a 4:1 slope. The two shoulder sections are showing up in the cross section but the tie-down is not. I have checked the target and it is set properly to the existing ground.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Assembly For Match Slope / Widening / Mill And Overlay
Mar 7, 2013I'm looking to make an assembly to follow the crown of the existing roadway which is to be milled and overlayed. In addition to being milled and overlayed there will be a curb bumpout which will be full depth pavement. The roadway does not hold a constant crown at 2%, it varies which is why I would like it to mimic the existing roadway cross slope. What would be the best way to go about making an assembly to model this. I have attached an image so that you may get an idea of the situation. I have a curb gutter line which I would like the assembly to target in both width and elevation. The single slanted hatch is mill and overlay and the double slanted hatch is full depth pavement (widening).

Oct 10, 2012When I use link offset to surface and attach on left side, still extend to right. I am targeting a slope stake line polyline that exists on both sides of the roadway, works fine on right side. Documentation indicates that a negative offset value is needed to use to the left. How do I use negative value and target a polyline?

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Footways With Offset Assembly?
Feb 12, 2012I designed a very straight forward piece of road consisting of a centreline, 2 channels and a footway either side. I played around with superelevation, assemblies and created a corridor. This all works fine.
Now when I add a taper to my offset alignments (for instance to widen the carriageway at a junction approach in order to add a splitter island), I noticed that the corridor stays perpendicular to the centreline. So this means the 2m wide footway I specified is not actually 2m wide, measured perpendicular from the curb. (See attached)
I have figured out that I can achieve this by attaching an offset assembly to the curb and attach the footway sub-assembly to the offset assembly. (So the curb acts a bit like a subsidiary string in MX). However, in order to make this work, I need to assign the horizontal alignment and Profile of the offset alignment to the Offset in the Corridor Properties Parameters (see attached). So far I have only managed to do this by creating a temporary surface which is wider than the curbs, so I can apply a profile to the offset alignment.
This seems a bit of a silly work around for such a standard simple highway design principle. Is there an easier way to create footways that are not perpendicular to the centreline?
Why is the superelevation I have assigned to the centreline, not projected onto the offset alignments? If this was the case, the offset alignments would have had a profile automatically?If you attach the offset assembly to the curb, why does it not automatically know it should stay attached to the curb? ie, remove the need to specify te horizontal alignment in Corridor Parameters?Is there a curb subassembly in existance that will project anything attached to it, perpendicular?

Nov 8, 2013We have been playing with offset alignments, and the tool appears very useful, especially in regards to laying out subdivision streets with curb, sidewalks, row, etc. In order to shortcut the process, I am hoping to develop a routine that will gather offset data for each type of offset, and then apply the appropriate styles, label sets, naming convention, etc.
We started going down the path of using Lisp or a recorded macro, but it quickly became obvious (through trial and error and some quick "googling") that another approach may be more suitable. I have attached a screenshot of an example of what we would like to automate.

For instance, our alignment line is the centerline of the road. I need a station and offset of the new right of way line points at different places in the drawing. I want to use the alignment stationing to have it automatically create the station and offset at the point I choose.

I can do an offset from Baseline, or a tie to an elevation in a profile. What I can't do is make the offset 21' from the tie location over an additional 21' to another tie point on a surface.
