AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Corridor Grading - Slope To Surface
Dec 12, 2013
On my corridor I am using Link Slope to Surface, using a 3:1 slope. But it is giving me a 3:1 slope radial to the corridor - what I really need is a 3:1 slope between the contours themselves. On the inside of a tight curve, this makes a big difference. See the attached screenshot. Is there a workaround for this?

I am trying to create grading slope from a Feature line that was created at a constant elevation of 609m. I want to create a slope of 3:1 from the feature line to a surface I created. I recall in AutoCAD Civil 3D 2011 that you could create a slope directly to a surface. Is there a way of doing that in 2014 or did I simply forget a step when I created my Grading Groups?
I created the grading group using the Grading Creation Tool Pallet and selecting Set Grading Group. Then I set my target surface to the one I want to grade towards. I thought all I had to do than was go to Create Grading select the direction of grading and the slope. I thought the slope would continue to the target surface but it asked for a distance for grade that would throw off any volumes I want to pull off.
Did I have to create a new surface for my Pad at 609m than grade from that and how would I make sure my slope continues till it contacting the surface I want to target?

I am trying to grade up to the base of a retaining wall that is at a variable distance from my known breakline at a certain slope (i.e. 3:1). I know I can set a feature at the base of the wall and "manually" use a reference point and set the slope to 3:1, but I was looking for a more efficient way of doing this?
I am in C3D '09 right now, but we are in the process of upgrading to '14. Maybe (fingers crossed) this is in the updated version.

I am creating some simple grading objects from feature lines. I am targeting my existing ground surface with a 2:1 fill slope. My resulting surface shows me 5' contours, which I think should all be spaced out at constant 10' offsets, but they are not. When I measure the offsets I get different values ranging on 10.2' to 9.7' (depending on the section of the feature line I am looking at). How to make the slope build properly with a true 2:1 offset between contours? What good does this grading tool do if you can't get a properly constructed slope?

My corridor surface is not matching my corridor top links. see attachments. this is affecting my volumes!
The section-plan(surface red).png is showing the section editor and the plan view. the red highlighted line in section is the corridor surface and as you can see in plan view the surface is incorrect and wiggly.
The pdf is all my sections with the red linework being the corridor surface.

I have grading style set up to create a cut/fill boundary and the same thing for my corridor. I made surfaces from my grading and corridor and no longer need them. I need to keep the cut/fill lines for my design. How can I extract these lines from these objects? I tried keeping the grading/corridor on one layer and lines I wish to use on another so I can turn pieces of the grading off. However, it will not print the cut/fill boundary without printing all the feature lines created from a grading.

I am doing a overlay design for a runway.
I have alignments and profiles for the centerline and 12.5m either side. I would like to create a surface from a corridor by using the three profiles but extending the slope beyond the 12.5m either side.
I can easially create a surface between the three profiles and alignments, however I would like to extend the surface outward a further 10m in both directions at the same transverse slope. note that the transverse slope is variable across the entire runway.
I tried this using the "LinkOffsetAndSlope" generic link by making each subassembly 22.5m long and linking only to the profiles 12.5m from the centreline. However it seems it simply applies the levels from the 12.5m offest profiles at the full distance of 22.5m.

I am trying to build a corridor using a conditional slope assembly that considers the roadway and links into the lots.
The corridor is divided into 3 regions. All targeting has been assigned.
The first region appears fine. The second and third show no links beyond the roadway.

Designing a tailing dam I use a corridor model changing slope grade from 1:2 to 1:2.5.
There are assemblies and subassemblies with shapes defined for each slope grade, LinkMulti with no target, but how do I make the transition from one slope grade to another one?
In corridor properties I included two regions for each slope grade.
For grading there is a transition function. But the transition for corridors?

I am trying to visualize a road project. The problems is, whenever the corridor surface goes below the EG surface (when the road is in cut) the EG surface is the only visible surface.
I sort of need to subtract the corridor surface from the EG surface, or merge the both surfaces into one.

It has been too long since I created Grading Objects and Proposed Surfaces. I am working in a file with my existing surface DATA Linked. I am creating a grading plan. I have created three separate grading objects in the Site named Proposed. One in the building, One is a new ditch, one is a graded existing ditch. I need to make these three with the unaffected areas of the existing surface into a new surface. How do I accomplish that . All my grading objects appear to be individually accurate and are created with a Feature Line and Grade to Surface Styles.

I have two separate graded levees in my drawing. One has created a surface just fine, the other absolutely refuses to generate a surface. I've deleted the grading even the feature lines and re-did them. In my grading group I have automatic surface creation checked and the volume base surface checked. I show the surface in the prospector but there is nothing there. The one levee will show contour styles but this one ZIP!

I have a feature line that is below the surface of an existing earth dam embankment. I want to grade downward from that feature line at a shallow slope until it daylights somewhere down the embankment slope. How do I accomplish this? All I can get it to do is slope upward (cut) to the existing surface.

I attached 3 pictures describing my problem.
On the first one you can see the feature lines i'm about to grade. The closed line is a pond and the two lines on the right is a riverbed. The area between them is just land.
On the second picture you can see a part of the surface i need to get by grading. I need the pond, riverbed and land to be one surface.
On the third picture you can see what happens, when i try to grade the riverbed under the same grading group. The pond surface disappears while the grading stays.

I'm trying to replicate a dump surface from a cad file, but this one is rather different from what i'm used to (more simple and poligonal).
This one is curved and the top of the platform has inclinations has the picture shows.
I'm having trouble on finding the best way to aproach this dump surface. I tried to start from point 2 with the curved feature line and grade back 2% till EG and then grade forward 10% till it reaches point 3 at elevation (900) , but when i grade forward the sides obviosly dont hit my EG.

Please find the attached picture. It shows a surface with its data points. I extended the surface to the outer boarder shown by kriging. The slope of the surface that was added with the extension (past the data points) has an upward slope that was generated. I need the surface to stay level with the data points that are there.
How to avoid that added slope when extending a surface?

I'm modeling a simple corridor (12' lane 2%, 6' shoulder 6%, 4:1 to match EG). I used the "LinkSlopeToSurface" subassembly for the 4:1 to match the EG. Unfortunately our EG isn't always wide enough for the 4:1 slope to match it somewhere.
Is there an assembly that would use 4:1 as a standard daylight slope, but where necessary adjust the slope, max. 3.5:1, to match EG surface?

I am using AutoCAD Civil 3D to do a slope analysis across project locations. When defining slope categories, I am finding that the max slope percentages are astronomically high; ranges are being returned up to 360,000%--and I've only done three regions! I understand vertical slope but these percentages are not realistic by any means, especially through the areas in which I am working.
A specific example: between a contour at elevation of 792 ft and a contour at elevation of 794 ft at a distance of approximately 60 feet, the slope percentage being returned is in the 9000% range. There is not a sudden drop or rapid change in elevation between these two contour intervals to provide reason for this high of a percentage. I would expect to have a slope percentage nearer the 3% range.
The data source of the contour information is LiDAR being brought into CAD via the task-based geospatial option using MapImport. All data tables are being kept. Polygons are being imported as closed polygons. There are no surface errors being reported upon creation. The project locations were created in another program and imported into CAD using the same manner. The only thing that I can conjure up is that there is some sort setting issue.
