Any way to create a dynamic link between the property set attached to a space and excel?
I have a lots of spaces that has a property set attached, some of this property changes often. So if it was possible to create a excel sheet that presents each property for each space and then I could change the property in excel and put it back to Architecture it would save me a lot of time.
Is there a way to control which of two 'Graphic Property definitions' are used via a formula property with a IF, Then, condition statement?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have created a new property set definition and added two manual property definitions and applied this to all objects. Every object on the drawings has distinct values for these two properties. These property values show correctly on the Extended Data tab of the Properties palette.
I have published to DWFX with AEC property set data set to 'Include'. In the resulting DWFX in Autodesk Design Review I can select each object and see the standard properties but not my special property set data.
I am using some custom property set definitions to add information to spaces. However as I insert spaces I find that I have to go to the extra step to add the property set to the object using the Extended Data tab in the Properties Palette.
It is not a huge deal but sometimes it is forgotten and schedules are not reporting properly, or the display theme is not correct. Although there are tools to quickly add them I would like to know if there is an automatic way to add them while creating the spaces/zones.
On a related note. There is a property set definition that is in each file by default called RoomFinishObjects. Is there a way to purge this? I don't want to attach finishes to my objects. But it seems to be embedded in the file.
Is there a way to preset the reach of the sprout on Location Property Definitions in Property Sets?
For example, I have upper cabinets that aren't over a Space, because there isn't flooring underneath them. Because of this, the sprout reports "Space Not Found" in the cabinet schedule, and I have to go in and manually pull each sprout out until it latches onto a Space.
I would like to set all sprouts to automatically reach out 2'6" from their insertions point.

View 2 Replies View RelatedOn my Property Set Definitions I have a attribute table called "ROOM_NO". This is where I enter the full number/character of the room, in my case the value usually looks like "101A", and sometimes "A101B" for Room number.
I was asked to do another table to separate the fields.
ROOM_PREFIX ROOM_NUM. ROOM_SUFFIX.
Separating the room number in 3 attribute tables to "A 101 B"
I was thinking referencing the ROOM_NO table in each box and filtering out the numbers and character. For example in ROOM_PREFIX I would reference ROOM_NO and filter out the number and the suffix letter through a formula. And in ROOM_NUM I would Filter both alphabetical character.

I struggled for a while this morning with trying to data link to a large door schedule in Excel. After several failures, I searched online for answers, and read in another forum that AutoCAD won't data link to more than 2000 cells.
My door schedule is about 2050 cells now, and will be about 4000 when done. I defined a set of about 1,000 cells in the Excel spreadsheet, and AutoCAD linked to it no problem. So, I tend to believe the poster who stated the 2000 cell limit, but I can't find this.
I FINALLY decided to get my head around the Sheet Set Manager (kudos to Kate Morrical's video series).
I understand the need to create custom properties, and I can see that you can either "add" or "delete" custom properties, but is there any way to CHANGE the property after it's been defined?
For example, if I create a custom property complete with a default value, but discover later that I made a spelling mistake (eg. "Darwn By" instead of "Drawn By"), is there any way to MODIFY it?
I have two related properties... One is a formula property, the other is a manual property.
In the formular property I'd like to set the value of the manual property.
I've created a dynamic block with two visibility states. The second state is a copy of the first state, but some of the attribute definitions have been moved, along with some of the geometry.
When I insert the block, then toggle between the two visibility states, the geometry changes as I would expect, but the attributes stay in the position dictated on the first state.
How can I make sure that the attributes move for the second state, as I need them to.
Basically I have a rectangle and want to change the dimensions of it. There are a couple of attributed definitions that I want to stretch the and change it length but I alsowant the attributed definitions to move with the right hand side of the rectangle and the stay a constant distance from the right hand side. Unfortunately when I use the stretch action it filters out the attributed from the object that I can stretch, any way to include these AD’s with the stretch action
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm messing around with tables and data links, practicing. I copied a range of cells in Excel, and did paste special to create a linked table.
Now I can delete the table object, but I cannot delete the link, cannot detach it.
When in Data Manager if I right click on the data link and click delete I get the error message "The data link is being used and cannot be deleted".
I have tried detaching, and the detach does not seem to take.
Now also, the table will not update from the source xls.
Win XP, AcadLT 2011, Office 2010. Using compatible setting for saving spreadsheet, for Office 2007 (not xlsx).
If I create a linked table by starting with the Table icon, choose "from a data link", choose the excel spreadsheet, etc., then I am able to later update the table from the spreadsheet, detach, delete the link, etc. But I can only delete the link if the table is not selected when I open the Data Link Manager.
But the one that was created following the directions from the Autocad video, with the copy, paste special, that link will not detach nor delete.
When I link in an excel document to my model all parameters in that excel gets the unit (mm).
How can I change this? For instance I want some of the parameters to be an angle.
I am new to dynamic blocks. I have figured out how to use the Properites block for "preset" definitions but we offer a product in infine sizes (within limits). For example the width may range from 30" to 200" in fractional increments which is impossible to set up presets. Is there a way that a person can set up the properties block so that a person would be prompted to enter required information, I.E. Width = xx", Height = xx" etc.?

I have a client that wants everything in CTB format and in AutoCAD Architecture. I can get the drawings into CTB but the materials plot way too heavy and when I go in the styles they show Full Saturation or Wide, Thin from the STB plot styles.
The Drawing is in CTB and I am pulling my hair out trying to get the couple materials used set to Color based plotting.
So I've done a reasonable amount of work with dynamic blocks. I have a block with a rotation action and grip to arbitrarily align it. However I realized when trying to combine it with an alignment grip (which actions on the basic or fundamental block rotation angle) that there didn't seem to be a way to some how link a dynamic block rotation action or one of the custom angle properties to a the fundamental block rotation angle. Thus there are two additive rotations at work; the dynamic block one with its grip and the fundamental rotation property.
This can cause some confusion when one person aligns with the grip and another via rotating the block's fundamental property and would also be problematic in the generalized sense if one was trying to select or programmatically read back the net angle alignment.
We have a whole bunch of spreadsheets that we use for calculations and parts of those spreadsheets are linked to a ton of CAD Drawings via data links.
We would like to be able to deliver the CAD drawings to the client without having to send our calculation books (just the output tables). In other words, is it possible to embed the table data and remove the excel link for the final delivery?
I'm trying to see if I can write a rule that will link a custom property at the part level in a template and have it update when I copy the part and drawing to a new design. Below is the formula I'm using and it works in the original files but when I use Design Assistant to create a copy for a new design, this formula will not update.

Everytime it says "1 data link(s) do not allow their data to be written out." thats when i try to write it to the excel file.

We have tremendous problem in our office while we open the CAD files which have linked to excel tables. It takes endless loading time if any computer has excell sheets opened. We use copy / paste special ( linked ) command to brought excel tables to the DWG files. OLE OBJECT command has worst result about linking excel sheets. How do we control ( link option) in this stution as linked versus unlinked?

View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen trying to insert a table linked to an Excel 2010 file, it works up until row 28, however, as soon as I add a 29th row to the table it no longer inserts the table. When I try and insert it, I press ok and nothing happens. I tried inserting it as a smaller table and changing the data link to a bigger range after it was inserted, it just didn't update to a larger range.
Is there a way of getting this to work without having to insert it as two different tables?

I made a table in excel selecting and naming fields, added the file in windows OBDC manager, able to make the connection through dbConnect autocad, created label ...
Now I need to put the information in the database autocad text entity and already there I'm not getting more done
I want to link an excel sheet with a drawing, so changing the excel changes the drawing.
I used this awesome site to learn about going to Edit->Paste Special->Paste Link->AutoCAD Entities...but I don't have that choice. Just the one that makes the OLE image. While that will work, that is less than ideal. It appears in just normal paste, but not under paste link.
