AutoCAD 2010 :: Edit DXE Files With Text Editor
Jun 10, 2009
Is it possible to modify .DXE files with a text editor?
I want to quickly find & replace the file paths DXE's are looking for (rather than run eattext every time I have a new drawing), but after opening in Notepad or Word AutoCAD displays error "...not valid extraction file."
BLK's were nice because files could be renamed and the schedule would still work. Now, the DXE will look for the old drawing rather than the one which has been renamed. Copying a file or using a template is impossible because you have to run eattext & create a new DXE every time the file name changes.

the file is not optimized in any way, I probably made all sorts of bad decisions that have ended up with me having an unwieldy file that is hard to work with, but it's doing the job for me.
However, I have to make the same change to around 30-40 materials that I created which each have their own individual bitmaps assigned to them, as they all have different text on them.
I want to remove the opacity mapping from each one, but opening each one and making the change, then saving it, is ridiculously long winded with the file performing as bad as it is (running on an SSD with an i5 chip and 16gb RAM.....)
So I'd like to know if there is any way to, for instance, open all those materials in a text editor and manually remove the opacity setting. They are all in "scene materials" in my document.
Maybe I could add them to their own library, open a blank document with this library, edit them there, and move them back?
I just had 3ds max hang while I'd updated half the materials

Autodesk 2013 Inventor Professional.
1. When in style and Standard editor with default standard selected under Standard I am trying to display mass properties in my view label.Select View Preferences tab. View type Base. Next to Display select Edit View Label. When Format Text box pops up in the selection for text type I have two options.
a. Properties - Model
b. View Label Properties
2. Inside an IDW file right click on view and select edit view. When Drawing View box pops up there is the option to access Edit View Label next to View Identifier. When Format Text box pops up in the selection for text type at this point there are seven options.
a. Properties - Model
b. Properties - Drawing
c. Drawing Properties
d. Sheet Properties
e. Physical Properties - Model
f. View Label Properties
g. Sheet Metal Properties
Questions 1. Why are ther only two options in S&S Editor?
2. Can I add more options to S&S Editor?
I would like to add mass to my lablel inside certain templates and have it show when I display a views Base view label. Not ot have to maunually add it each time it is displayed.

Within the enhanced attribute editor dialogue, I am wondering if there is a way to open up the multiline text editor with a keyboard shortcut, vs.. having to mouse click on the open editor box? The reason being, I can quickly fill out attributes that are single line text, but get hemmed up with having to stop and open up the multiline....

We've just started using an attribute in a dynamic block and I'm curious if there is a faster way to edit the text, like how you just click outside the dtext or mtext editor to save and exit. the editor.
We only need to edit the value field, not any of the other attritubes. I really like how the dynamic block is saving us some time, but the outdated editor is really irritating, and it's not always convenient to hit Tab then Enter on the keyboard.
Is there perhaps an alternate editor, or a way I can edit the value text in the mtext editor by default rather than opening up the Enhanced Attribute Editor?

My office has just installed 2012 on a couple of extra machines. Our installs were fine before but for some reason we can't double click to edit text or attributes any more. I've checked MTEXTED = INTERNAL and DBLCLKEDIT = 1 but that's not it. We can type ED or ATTEDIT to edit attributes normally, or MTEDIT to edit mtext but we don't get the normal text formatting bar or ruler. It's just looks like were using the dxtext editor, but it's not dtext.

In autoCAD tools I am using Device ID to mark my receptacles GFI, WP, and Ect. I am using Light ID to mark my lighting fixtures. The problem is the labels do not match my current text style. These tags also do not work like room tags and other tags I have searched to resolve this issue. The command these tools are grabbing is AECscheduletag. Is there a way to change the text style and size for these tags.

If I place a dimension and have text above and below the dimension line (using X), and then grip edit the dimension text to move it for space/clarity on plans, the text above and below the line will mysteriously move closer to the line. If I have backgrounds applied to the text, which I normally do, the backgrounds will cover the line. Even without the background, it looks odd next to other dimensions that were not grip edited.

I downloaded an EPS image from Shutterstock assuming that I'd be able to replace the placeholder Latin text with my own words via Illustrator. Since then, I've learned from both StackExchange and this forum that the text in Shutterstock images is actually an uneditable "outline" and there's therefore no easy way to replace the sample text with useable text, nor is there a way to reverse-engineer which fonts/sizes were used in the original. This obviously makes Shutterstock images a lot less useful (glad I didn't subscribe!).
Are there any other Shutterstock-like services out there that sell stock EPS images that actually allow you to edit the text?
Attached is a screenshot of the EPS file that I downloaded:
As you can see from the image, I'm just trying to find an aesthetically appealing template for use on a web site that illustrates "three easy steps." I have no graphic design experience. I do have a trial of Illustrator though.

I am trying to use our standard room name block in two new files from a client but it is not showing up the way it is supposed to. It looks like a totally different font. I have checked the text options box and it says it's "romans", just like it is supposed to, but it does not look right. It also does it with regular mtext that I copy in from another file. Once I change it back it looks right, but when I pull it in, it defaults to Romans and @arialunicode MS. I'm assuminng that's what the block is doing as well, but how do I fix that?

For labels, is the font decided in the general tab under text style or in the text component editor under the format tab? Are there overrides? There seems to be multiple locations for fonts choices when creating a label and I can't find a nice black and white answer.

I have an external photo editor set up so when I choose "edit in" it goes to that editor, not photoshop. I am getting the following error "Unexpected error performing command: bad argument #1 to 'lower' (string expected, got nil)".
I have tried repairing and reinstalling the program to no avail. I have tried setting up a different program for the external editor, same problem.
This is working as it should in Lightroom 3.6.

trying to copy txt from an outside text editor and pasting them into an open, editable text layer in my workspace. The problem is that I can COPY the text fine, but when I click over to PS to paste it into the open editable text layer it either pastes the previous text from my clipboard OR it won't paste anything at all. I can then go into any other text field on a browser, spreadsheet document, a different text editor, notepad, etc and successfully paste the proper batch of text I wanted to paste into PS. Sometimes I have some rather large files open 50+megs when I notice this happen. I have to save my work and close out entirely of PS and then open it again before I can begin editing my original document again and successfully paste the text into the open editable text layer. This may last for a few COPY/PASTE sessions of additional text in additional text layers, but then begins displaying the symptoms I described above.
I am on Win7 on an AlienWare M17XR3 laptop with 16G RAM and AMD Radeon HD 6900M Series display adapter.I assume it's either in my PS performance settings which I have PS using 10413MB RAM and has over 350G scratch disk space. If it's not that I guess my laptop system performance settings which I've never tinkered with since I purchased it.

I have a filmstrip of 500 plus images. Sometimes I need to "Edit in an external editor" on an image, in my case Elements 11. On selecting, EDIT IN, the original image plus the Elements 11 editied image move along to the end of the filmstrip. I then have to go to LIBRARY module, grid view and move both of these images back to their original location at the filmstrip. That is ok if you only have a few images but time consuming when you have 500 images.

Is there a setting somewhere that keeps the Mtext Editor in the same place? I believe in previous versions if you specified "OldEditor" it would keep the editing box at the same size and same location that you specified. In ACAD 2012, if I change to "Old Editor" I get an error message - see attached.
I have tried MTEXTfixed at 0 or 1 with no luck. I do understand that you can zoom in and out to change the size of the text when editing.I run dual monitors and like to have the mtext editing on the screen without my drawing.
