VideoStudio :: Chapters Info Wiped When Authoring DVD 4X
Nov 16, 2011
I have setup and renamed the chapters in the timeline using the Chapter Point Manager. I enter the Share section to author the DVD. Create Menu is check marked. I enter the Add/Edit Chapter to Automaticall add chapter info. I click OK and click next to choose a menu template and discover my renamed chapter info is gone and set to the default Chapter 1, chapter 2.........
I go back to the project to check on the chapters points I renamed and discover all the renamed chapters are gone. Is this a bug?
My system is running Win 7 home 64bit

Corel have just released the alternative authoring module for X3, in response to our complaints about the existing one. It is in fact a reworked version of Movie Factory 7 Pro, but now has the SE (Special Edition) letters worked into its title.
I have been one of the lucky people who have had the full version of MF7 since its original limited release. (For some unknown marketing reason, Corel limited MF 7 Pro to Asia/Oceania and possibly Europe.) I also acted as one of the Beta testers of this SE release. Like its predecessors it works extremely well.
The release, unfortunately for some, is being done by the same method as the other updates for X3: via the Get More function. I have not yet been given a URL where it can be downloaded separately. In fact, I am rather doubtful that such an URL will be released since Corel obviously wish to restrict downloads to those who have a copy of X3.
I suspect a downside is that for new users of X3, it will again take 3 days for the download of MF7 SE to appear. (This strangely enough will include me as I just bought a new computer yesterday, and have installed X3 on it. But as yet -- unsurprisingly -- I don't even have the template packs showing in the Get More tab! But I guess I can install the full MF 7 Pro on this machine...)
MF7 SE has a virtually identical appearance to the full verions of MF7 and its predecessors, and a close similarity to the burning module of VS X2 and its predecessors. It will thus be very easy for users of previous versions to use.
It should be noted that the main limitation of this SE version is that it requires the user to first produce a final version of a video in X3. Then you open MF7 SE and insert that video or videos for authoring as normal. It will not accept project files from X3.

I've completed a project in X3 and burnt a DVD using X2 after reading some of the negative reviews of X3 authoring. I did burn a copy using MovieFactory 7 SE but found it was glitchy (stopping and jumping) which I attributed to my inability to lower the burn speed from 'Maximum'.
The on-screen quality of the MovieFactory DVD is better than the quality of the X2 authored DVD despite the fact that all settings appear to be identical! Looking at the titling, it is noticeably sharper in MovieFactory.
Settings on both are:
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 576, 25 fps
Frame-based
(DVD-PAL), 16:9
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 7000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 256 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)
Also, the files on the MovieFactory DVD are slightly larger suggesting there is some extra data (quality?) on it.

I am using VS X2, very happy with it. I have been burning a few SD DVDs with AVCHD and very happy there, too. The authoring options and menu templates is quite limited when compared to my options when creating a standard DVD.
I need to know what is the best additional program I should use to have more options when creating AVCHD discs and Blu-Ray when that time comes. Is it movie Factory 7? IS MF 6 more compatible with VS X2 and will it give me the same features as 7?

I'm trying to create a blu-ray movie that contains AVCHD videos of various vacations that I've been on over the past year (just your typical collection of home movies), but I've had problem after problem in trying to create the damn thing. I've used VS Pro X4 to create four individual movies (representing four different vacations, each saved as vsp files); I then created my "menu file" to compile all four movies into a single blu-ray with each one having menu buttons that then go to chapter sections. Then, due to VSX4 never completing a successful burn, I simply had it create the Blu-Ray folders and then used ImgBurn to burn them to disc.
ANYWAYS, what kind of project settings do I need to be using in VS? I will be playing the disc in a PS3 (not sure if that matters as opposed to a regular BD player). I finally managed to produce a successful burn, but it was only able to play once in my PS3 - for some reason after it initially played fine, it wouldn't play again even though there was no damage to the disc. The disc was a BD-RE DL by Maxell. I had previously tried BD-DL Verbatim discs, but I was never able to finish a burn with those.
I'm just trying to figure out why I'm having so much trouble getting my movie from my computer to a playable disc!! Dx
Here are my current project settings:NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)MPEG files24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fpsUpper Field First(DVD-NTSC), 16:9Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps) LPCM Audio, 48000 Hz, StereoAnd here is a screenshot of my Share > Create Blu-ray properties: click.
Blu-ray burner that I'm using: Matshita BD-MLT U240AF. It is connected via USB cable to my Vista 64 laptop. All of my drivers are up to date.

I have run into a roadblock -- I am having trouble authoring my DVD. I have watched the tutorials and read (and re-read) the User Guide.
I used my Canon HF S200 to shoot video of family reunions. It is about 2 1/2 hours long and I have about 32 chapters. I am ready to burn a DVD. but my chapters weren't appearing in the DVD Preview.
Further investigation showed that my project is 10.01 GBs and that my DVD only has 4.38 GB usable space.
It doesn't make sense to me. I rent Hollywood movies all the time that are nearly 3 hours long -- and those are certainly much more detailed than my little video.
I really don't want to split this project into 3 DVDs == that would be stupid.
How can I adjust settings so that my DVD fits -- and all of my Chapters appear in the DVD Preview prior to burning? I would like wide screen setting.

It seems I can't do this simple thing. Using Pro X2 I rendered together 4 mini videos on different subjects. Total time 40 minutes. I hit Share>Create Disc> DVD>Add Chapter (I added 4 chapters)>OK>Selected one of Thumb Nail Menus templates>Preview... and the menus shows only one chapter thumbnail, saying 1/1. I've done it over and over again and can not get my 4 chapters to show on menus template.

My PC got a virus and I had to reinstall VideoStudio 11 afterwards.
For the first time since, I've burned a multi-chapter DVD and when I play it there is no audio on Chapters 2-4 but it sounds fine on the menu music and the first chapter. Each chapter is an AVI and plays fine in VS and then in the menu preview.
I've reinstalled the software a couple of times and tried a different DVD+R but still no audio on half of the disc.

Any way to add more Chapter pointers on the actual DVD menu itself. It seems like the provided DVD menu templates, and I've installed the extras in VSP X4, only have 4~5 chapter pointers per DVD menu page. There's plenty of screen space to add more chapter pointers but how to do it. I tried clicking on one and doing a copy, but can't seem to go any further than that. I must be missing something somewhere. I want to have 6~12 links to chapters on each DVD menu page. I don't need a preview image for each chapter pointer, just a simple text pointer is fine.
Is there a way to do add more to the DVD menus?

I'm having problems on two different PC's with creating a Share/Create Disk/ DVD project in Video Studio 11+. On one PC after I create the DVD project (three separate videos each with its own menu, etc) and save it, when I return later to actually burn the DVD the chapter names are gone. The rest of the information seems to still be there.
To try to get around the above problem I moved the videos, music, etc to my laptop (also Video Studio 11+) and there when I add the three videos to the Share/Create Disk/ DVD project and then click on Add/Edit Chapters, the video does not open up to allow me to move the jog bar and add chapters. If I click on the auto add option Visual Studio crashes.
PS...I have the same experience on the laptop with Video Studio 12...

Before I was able to transfer my niece's wedding video from a Sony miniDV handycam into Ulead and create the perfect wedding DVD. Now I can not remember exactly all the steps, but what I do remember is that just following the product's manual did not work. I can recall at each stage (Capture Phase etc) there was a set of steps, a recommended work flow. I think Steve (Sjj1805) might have pointed me to that work flow, and when followed exactly that was the key to getting the software to work properly (things like lower field first, capture in AVI format, select DV type 1 and so on)..
(BTW I will still be using ULead Video Studio version 10) ps computer with Ulead on is 1.79 Ghz Duron, 1.5 Gb of ram and I use an external usb hard drive to store the large video files on, windows XP pro OS.
But I'm currently using a later computer with Vista, an i7 2.67 Ghz processor, 6 Gb ram and some bundled software called Power Director to get old VHS tapes transferred via a composite video - USB interface cable into computer video files. At moment I'm letting that chug on with its default settings, so from my 3 hour VHS tapes its creating an mpeg file which it has automatically chopped up into 3 separate mpg subfiles (I didn't ask it to, I can probably find out the 'flavour' of the file), each is about 3.8 Gb. The Power Director software has got its own editing and mastering and burning facilities, but I wish to use Ulead's. Perhaps I'm (it is encoding ?) at too high a resolution, but the only quick advice I saw was to encode at the highest possible quality.
If possible I would like each of the old tapes to be on a single DVD, I can not remember if Ulead can take care of that, or you have to use something like DVD shrink?

Just a heads up on an old issue which still exists in the burning module of X4. Apparently nothing has been updated from X2 other than reintegrating it with the editing software. Unspecified is maddeningly vague but If you get this message during the authoring stage it may be due to a glitch in some of the menu templates. I have found that using certain menu templates if you uncheck the "motion menu" box it will crash the production at the final stage with this message occurring. If this happens you must leave the motion menu box checked (which is the template default) even though you aren't using a motion menu. It appears to have no effect on the finished product. I have found this glitch with a number of the text menu templates that I like to use. I know it took me some effort to figure this out back in X2.

In making movies I sometimes need to pause the DVD authoring process (Share, create DVD, with various clips in the timeline), and be able to pickup the procedure from the point of pause later. Not infrequently, after I've shut down the computer and restarted after a day or more. If I close the process, there's a message box displayed that says "saving project" but it doesn't say where nor give the opportunity for specifying a file name.
If the authoring process is re-started without computer or program shutdown and no intervening different work, the authoring process re-starts where it left off. But if there's a shutdown or diversion to other work, getting back the paused activity seems to be a lost cause: in the opening authoring panel there doesn't seem to be a 'get saved project' option available despite the various add video files/project files/other media buttons'
So, I set up a special test file with a unique name, made sure all the preference boxes pointed to the same working file space and did a sample run, closing the author process before getting to the burn stage. The save project file box appeared briefly. But . . . one cannot find the saved file in the locations specified by the preference boxes either in the main menu or the author panel preferences icon. And even if it was found, re-loading it seems to be a problem (see remark above)
This situation exists in VS11+ and also in VS14, so it seems to have existed for some time.
So, the questions:
1. under what name does the author panel save a partially completed work?
2. where does it save it?
3. how does one re-load a saved, partially authored work?

I finally have my project done. I click Share, then try to change the bitrate lower it says I am 2.5gigs over. When I change it nothing happens on the left side, it still stays the same. Also it does not import my chapters that I have set in the editing mode?
I have saved it to a video file, in case it may be easier to do it that way? I have a difficult time finding it in the their programs library. X12 use to automatically import your chapters from the editing mode when they were set.
Either I am confused (which can be easy) or it is more difficult to figure things out in X3.

I have a single project in X5 with which I want to have several chapters on a DVD menu. The trick is that I want to have all of the chapters on the first DVD menu that comes up, not on a sub-menu to the main menu. The only way I have been able to accomplish this is to break the project into separate projects per chapter, then load each individual project into the Create Disc sofware through the Add Media option. This is a big hassle and something I do not want to do very often. Is there an easier way to accomplish what I am wanting or am I out of luck with this software?

The last version of VS I've used was V10. Just installed X5. I'm making a disk that has 2 videos in it. I want 2 menu options, one for each video file. The way I used to do it was to create 2 projects. In each project I'd edit the video as I need. I'd then create a 3rd project and add both projects with the edited videos in them.
Is this still the way to create a disk with multiple videos in it or is there a better way? If I do it this way will I get any audio sync problems? Had that with older versions.
Also, can I edit 2 videos in the same project without having them both in the same timeline?

been using Videostudiopro X5 for few years typically just for weddings and I do not use chapters. I need to edit and produce a dance recital this week and wondering if this is possible:
Producing 2 hours to a DL disc and will have 34 total dances. I will set a chapter marker for each dance. When it comes time for the menu, can I have 17 chapters on 2 pages for total of 34? I would like to have one menu page with 2 submenu pages, 1 submenu page for Act 1, 1-17 with song name and another for Act 2, 18-34 with song name.
I can do this with Sony Vegas, but prefer editing with VSPro.....

I upgraded from the old Video Studio 10 Plus to the Corel Pro 3X. I am now in the process of downloading all the Get More updates. While I am doing this, here is my Menu/Chapter problem.
1. I created the first video (part 1). I somehow have a main menu, and the the second menu has my chapters to select. Yay! I saved the menu to My Favorites. The DVD works great, a person can select a chapter to play, etc.
2. Now I am trying to create the second video (part 2). Somehow in My Favorites I have two menu templates from the first DVD I created. I have tried selecting each one and am trying to create a main menu, and then the second menu with 4 chapters. But each time I end up with 4 chapter menus, but I want the second menu to have the 4 chapters on it that you select a chapter thumbnail that your want to view.
I hate to start from scratch because I like the fonts, etc. from the first DVD, which is part 1.

I recently created a dvd which includes 'chapters'. I 'create Video' (DVD) file then 'create disk' to DVD folders on hard disk and then use Ashampoo to burn to DVD.
My 'Create Disk' has two menus, the top menu for the 'only' Video file and then the next menu which includes 2 chapters. When I do a 'Preview' BOTH menus appear (I click on the small window of the top which shows 30 seconds of the video file and then the second menu appears with my 2 'chapters which also have small windows displaying 30 seconds of the relevant part of the video file).
ALSO in the 'currently displayed menu I have 3 menus in the drop down - 'Main Menu', '2012 trip', and Main Menu: Note Menu (where this came from). So it all looks good as I expect. HOWEVER the resulting DVD NEVER displayed the second menu.

I'm at the stage in Trevor's guide entitled 'My guide from Mpeg Capture to Burn'
Burn a DVD
stage 11/ add menus and chapters as required.
I have navigated to the exact points and done add chapter for each point, but the Thumbnails are not the best possible for the indicating the section's contents.
Post says double click on the thumbnail. I do that, navigate in the preview window to a more representative scene. Then it appears all I can do is 'add chapter', then it appears on the timeline as an extra chapter. My question is has it really increased the chapters, or is it just that UVS only has this way to show the new Thumbnail ?

I usually create several smaller .vsp projects for managing purposes and in each project I create several chapter points by inserting the green arrow icon as described on page 96 of the user guide. I then combine a couple .vsp projects in order to fill a dvd by the following sequence:
1/ start with a new blank project
2/ click on 3 share tab up top
3/ click on create disc / dvd
4/ add 2 vsp projects or more
5/ Click add/edit chapters to confirm proper chapters points have carried through from previous vsp projects
It is at this point where I notice all chapter points have been deleted from the individual vsp projects which is very frustrating.
I have also updated with SP1 & 2, and I have checked to see that the software is up to date via the Corel Guide message center and it says that it is.
I have also noticed that if i create a DVD of one project, the chapter points stay intact, however the name of the selected clip changes to untitled.

I'm using VideoStudio proX5. Previous versions of the VS program have allowed me to opt out of using a preset image template for the menu pages and instead to choose a background image of my own to put behind page headings and video thumbnails or text titles. I can't see how to do this in VSproX5. Any background image I introduce is always partly covered by unwanted areas of template and the right-click menus won't let me delete or move them to the back. I just want a plain uniform background and to be able to choose the coolur.

When I choose a DVD-menu the default chapter names are "chapter01" to chapter99" where 99 is the last chapter number. I do use the German language version. The it is "Kapitel01" to "Kapitel99".
I do not want to have the word "Kapitel" in each line of the menu. I only want to have the chapter number. "01" to "99". Not the short numbers which count from 1 again on each page of the menu.
Is it possible to change the text "Kapitel" to blank or to delet the text to get only the chapter numbers als default chapter names? Can I configure it manual in any configuration file. I think that the word "Kapitel" comes from a German language file? Can I change it to blank there?

I use VS Pro X4 sporadically, but I seem to recall that when previewing my work before burning a DVD, I was able to see my chapter's/menu's that I created - in the Adding/Editing Chapter option. I would then click on their remote control and select/test out my "links" before burning a disc. I must be doing something wrong because when I choose Preview, my main screen custom menu doesn't appear.
If I play around a bit, I can select "Top Menu" on the remote and click a number - which brings me to the chapter (but again, I can see my main menu/chapter screen - the screen that would appear when someone loads my DVD to play it).
