Premiere Pro :: Audio Gradually Goes Out Of Sync When Video Imported Into CS5.5?
May 9, 2012
Audio sync problem I'm experiencing with videos recorded with the latest iPad 3 (well, that's what I'm calling it anyway).
I believe the iPad 3 recording format is 1080/30p with 44.1Khz / 16 bit audio, but when I match those settings on a Premiere Pro CS5.5 project (or try 48KHz audio as a test), the audio gradually goes out of sync. If the video is several minutes long, it becomes quite obvious, and by 10 minutes, it's terrible!
I should add the file plays back fine on the iPad itself and was imported to a Mac via iTunes. It also plays fine on the Mac itself in Quicktime.
On a related note, I additionally captured the audio using a Zoom H2n which i intended to replace in Premiere, but foolishly I captured it at 48KHz, rather than the 44.1KHz of the iPad video file. Should I resample it?
I actually managed to line-up the 48 and 44.1KHz waveforms from the iPad and Zoom in Premiere quite accurately, but again both gradually go out of sync with the video...
I'm running Premiere Pro 5.5.2 on Mac OSX 10.7.3.

I just finished an animation in Flash and imported the JPEG sequence and the audio WAV into premiere. For some reason the audio wont sync up to the animation and I cant figure out why. Everything should be set correctly. The audio was originally created in after effects and even when I imported the JPEGs into the audio file in after effects it still wouldn't sync.

After importing my mp4 video into Premiere Pro, the audio plays perfectly, but the video is out of sync and plays as if though it's in slow motion.I've been using this software for about 4 months and have encountered this problem within the last few weeks.

I have been editing on Premiere and just recently encountered this problem: the video and audio get out of sync AFTER I have imported my media into the program. I have been importing my media in the following process:
I upload the media from my SD card in my camera onto my computer.I watch the media in QuickTime and it plays perfectly. Nothing is out of sync and everything plays in normal time.I create a new project in Premiere and import the media from my computer into the new project.I go to play the media back and start editing, and find the video and audio are out of sync. The video is playing extremly slowly and the audio is playing perfectly fine. I have played around with the speed and duration of just the video (not the audio) and all it does is create weird skips in the video. I have also tried exporting the media to see if it would somehow render itself out, but nothing seems to work. The problem is not with the camera or the original media.
This is how the video looks when I play it straight from QuickTime after uploading the media onto my computer from the SD card.

I've been using Xsplit to record games while I play. I recorded a ~2 hour video and toward the beginning of the video it seems to be pretty a-okay but later in the video when I play it in premier pro, the audio starts falling out of sync. When I play the original raw video the audio and video are both on time.
I read somewhere that the reason why the audio was out of sync was because xsplit uses a "variable framerate".
Not sure if this is true or not, but regardless, I tried exporting numerous times and the audio STILL falls out of whack. I looked on xsplit and there was a setting that i could enable to force constant frame rate..

So I've recorded some footage on GoPro Cameras at 1080p at 29.97 fps. The audio is 48000Hz.
I've recorded audio using Two Zoom h4ns simultaneously. One is at 44100 Hz at 16 Bits and the other is at 44100 Hz at 24 bits.
Now I've tried both a 24fps sequence and a 30 fps sequence, but neither of Zoom recordings match the video, they start off in synch (because i synch them) and then fall out of synch (obviously).
Is it that they fact that they were recorded at different Hz or fps/bits affect it? Is there any way to fix it that wouldn't destroy the footage aesthetically?

I am trying the new audio sync feature in Premiere CC. I am highlighting audio from videoclip and audio from my external harddisk audio recorder. I can press the merge, but cannot choose the "sync by audio" option. I can also not choose the "synchronize" option from the list, as it is geryed out.
Anoter smaller issue , is that i have not figured out how to view the waveforms, i have solid color blocks.

I'm using Pr CC on a Win7 64bit Dell Precision M6700 laptop. I've shot and edited a number of interviews sans problemo but today I'm having problems with outputting a simple edit with audio and video in sync using the h.264 Youtube 720 preset. It's not terrible but enough to grate on the nerves! I attach a screen shot of both my video and audio setting. I've tried both 1 and 2 pass and plain cbr. It's now 2 in the morning CET, I'm knackered and I'm meeting the client first thing.

I've been doing some game recordings with Nvidia's new ShadowPlay. The recording says it is done in "1080p @ 60 FPS with H.264". The recorder outputs into a .mp4 file. When I watch the raw footage, it is all properly synced. However, when I import it into Premiere, it is always out of sync without fail. I know very very little about the program, and have been trying to learn as I go, but I can't seem to figure out how to re-sync it. For now I've been having to cut the sound into parts and adjust the rates manually to get it to sync back up, but this is insanely tedious.

After building a new machine with Premiere CS5.5, using NVIDIA Q4000 card, I'm having troubles wioth my audio being out of sync. I am exporting DSLR footage which the same sequence was previously fine on export on my old computer. Now, when I export, the audio is a few frames out of sync. There's something really funny going on. When I play the same video file in Windows media player, it seems to be in sync. When I play it in Quicktime, it's clearly out of sync. Also, when I upload it to Vimeo, it's out of sync as well.

When I export the same file to Mpeg DVD, it seems in sync.

I've edited together some PAL SD video clips, that I copied and pasted from my Sony DCR-SX53ES camcorder, and auto-generated music and when I preview the project through the edit screen everything is okay. I then selected Create Video File and DVD and the output file completed successfully, however, when I play back the file both the original audio from the video clips and the added music are out of sync with the video pictures by about 4 seconds.
This did not happen the previous time I used X4 with the same camcorder and on the same PC, how to correct it.

I just downloaded the VideoStudio X5 Trial, and want to crop a 10-minute video of my baby to the minute she's singing. Her grandparents would love it.
I noticed that when I imported the video into the timeline, the audio was about 0.75s ahead of the video, when in "Project" mode. In "Clip" mode it looked/sounded fine. When I render the video, it also has the same sync problem as in "Project" mode.
Here are the details of the video:
Video type: H.264 Baseline Profile Video
Total frames: 18,430
Attributes: 24 bits, 1280 x 720
Frame rate: 29.908 frames/sec
Data rate: 11965 Kbps
Audio type: MPEG AAC Audio
Total samples: 29,736,960
Attributes: 48000Hz, 16 bit, stereo
Bit rate: 96 Kbps

I purchased (USB-Live 2) to convert VHS tapes to DVD. I initially purchased "Ulead VideoStudio 11" to capture and edit video, but the software wouldn't work. I received the following messages: "cannot start the capture graph" or "cannot capture: copy protected material". I was unable to receive a solution from the Hauppauge tech people or the corel tech people, therefore I purchased the Pinnacle studio 12 software and their Dazzle DVC 100 capture device.
Using the "USB-Live 2" device and Pinnacle Studio 12 as my capture software and Ulead VideoStudio 11 to edit and burn, I successfully converted about 100 VHS tapes to DVD disks. Then the Audio would not sync. What happens is that for about 5 minutes the audio will be out of sync, then something happens and the audio will re-sync and stay in sync until the end of the project. But, with the next tape I try to capture the same problem occurs. When in capture mode I can start capture and let it record for about 5 minutes, then, start the tape in the VCR and the audio will be in sync. I wiped the Hard drive and reloaded Windows XP and all of my programs. I also replaced the sound card, but I still have the same problem. I think the problem is with the Hauppauge USB-Live 2 capture device. If I use the Dazzle DV100 there is no sync problem, just a lot of dropped frames. Also, now when I am capturing the video I have no audio but when I edited the project the audio will be on. When I installed the New Sound Card I disabled the onboard HD Audio and it is still disabled. The following are my computer specs.
Asus P5NSLI motherboard
Intel Core 2 DUO 2.66GHz
3 GB DDR2 800 MHz Ram
Nvidia GeForce GT220
Asus Xonar DG 5.1 Sound Card
Hard Drive: 2- 320 Gb drives
Monitor: eMachines E2024
WinXP SP3

I have read the thread regarding sound breaking up in ProX3. I have this same problem in ProX3 and ProX2. But all of a sudden I am also experiencing the problem of the video and audio being out of sync in files from my Sony Handycam HDR-CX350 set on Standard. The video files I take using either a Sony or Olympus that I mainly use for still shots work fine.
When I first installed ProX2 and then ProX3 my struggle was with the changes in menus and such as I had been using VS11.5 but the videos themselves worked okay. Now all of a sudden I am experiencing the sound problems. I cannot tie the changes in with any specific Win update as I just don't remember the sequence of events.
At one point I had installed a PowerPoint video converter which gave me a registry error message at the time but the sound problems developed much after that time.
Yesterday I downloaded a trial version from another company thinking perhaps I needed to move on but I believe the out of sync problem is worse with that software than with Corel software.
I am wondering if a setting got changed in how the software manages the video from the handycam but I guess I am not smart enought to see what it might be.

I am using VS 10 and I have successfully captured all the video needed for this project (DV format). My project is an interview where I used 2 cameras during the recording session. On one camera I used a microphone and I want to use that audio throughout the project for consistency. At the beginning of the session I recorded a timer from my laptop screen to better sync the video during editing.
I placed one camera video on the video track and the other on the overlay #1 track. I moved the overlay clip so it matched the frame of the timer on the video track. The 2 tracks synched up perfectly. How to cut back and forth from the second camera. I extracted the video track audio to the audio track thinking I could just cut the video track and the overlay track and slide the overlay track up to the video track. But, it won’t let me cut the overlay track. By the way, while not an expert,I am also not a first time user with the software as I have made a number of projects over the years.

I was following the old instructions on the recommended way of working with UVS10+ re DVD creation, i.e. do the work on the project save as a video file then come back into UVS10+ with a new project with nothing in the timeline (old computer Win XP, for burning I have a video editing profile) when ready to go into burn phase. In burn phase did the title, added transitions between the 10 clips, let UVS10+ auto add chapters between clips.
Kept all burn phase properties the same as the original, with smart render (no re-render of compatible MPEG2).
Burnt it on to a DL disc, all seemed hunky dory (but took ages to do the title) until came to play it, and then I found that the sound had gone progressively out of sync on the DVD.
The video files are kept on an external hard drive connected via USB. To be honest the old XP computer does run very slow now, as they all do with time as leeches attach themselves and drain speed and resources.
My question is what are the usual suspects for sync problems ? Data transfer from external hard drive ? Project settings in burn phase different from edit phase ?
Would it be better to create an iso on the internal C-Drive, then burn from the iso ? NB whatever USB port I attach devices to front/rear etc. I have always got the message this device can run faster, searched the net tried all the tips to no avail.
However this did not prevent me from creating single layer DVDs without sync problems in the past using this set-up/way of working, but PC is way slower now.
I guess the PC's effective speed might be in the frame ? How far back will the 'rot' go ?
Should I go as far back as putting the converted clips into the time line in the edit phase (totally new project), or will the VSP project/video files be ok, i.e. problem at data transfer/burn stage.
I'm thinking about re-doing the XP user profile to ensure that later installs have not cluttered all the profiles on the machine, i.e. including the video editing profile.

Using Pro X4
I have a video file, I have an audio file. Video is loaded in the video track, audio in the Voice track.
HOW in the ... do I sync them? I have the mixer on, I can see the wav graphics, I can see where I want them to line up but either the Video track must slide forward ( and it won't, it's locked on 0 ) or the audio track must slide backward (but it won't slide below 0 start) I've tried splitting, clipping... I can't get it cut just right. All I want is time frame 0 for the video to start at positive time frame within the audio.

I'm trying to edit a music performance shot with multiple cameras, both video and still, using VS X4. I'd like to e.g. insert (full-screen pan & scan) still pictures into the video stream with video cross-fading in and out, but I cannot find a way to get a satisfactory end result without breaking audio/video synchronization.
I've tried the following:
a) Put the picture on the overlay track. If I now put cross-fades on the overlay track, the fades are to/from black, not between main track video and overlay still, which is not the desired result. It is expected functionality, though, so no bug there.
b) Put the picture on the same (main) track with the video. First, I split the audio to a separate audio track to keep it intact. Then I split a piece of video out using chapter markers as guides and replace the cut-out piece with a still picture of equal duration. So far audio sync remains fine. But if I now insert cross-fades into the main track, it gets out-of-sync with the audio with every cross-fade (video gets shorter, probably to compensate for the audio missing in the still pictures?), and it is really cumbersome to manually repair sync after every transition.
Would there be any way to get cross-fades in for multi-camera processing without messing audio synchronization? Some nice function key (press CTRL/SHIFT/ALT etc. while dropping the transition onto the overlay track to force it to process between the overlay and the main video track instead)?

I have used the Media Browser multiple times with different footage shot to an AVCHD camera, and after bringing the 1080p video into CS6, I get audio dropouts and sometimes no audio at all, even though there is definitely audio with the footage.

I just bought VideoStudio Pro x6 from Amazon last night and got to tinkering around with it. I have a MP4 video that I imported in and half way through previewing it, the audio drops. The original plays all the audio fine, but VideoStudio just can't get past a certain point with the audio.
I copied this from my system info. Not sure what's needed:
I am on Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit (6.1 Build 7601)
Processor i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz
Memory: 6144MB RAM

if I export a sequence from the timeline and have it imported into the project it only imports the film but without any sound. With some codec I can play the clip as it should be in the windows 7 ultimate explorer but I sometimes also get automatically a HD-file and the sound files as way as a separate thing. I never had that before. In fact what I want to do is to create a sequence from my timeline and have that as a separate HD-file to use whereever in the project. Especially if the sound is not the original one but added by myself. I have done that before and I would just get my HD-file and could play it in the preview WITH sound. Now all I get is the picture but .... like I said: without sound. That is not normal. So is that a rather useless update or a failure in the program?
And how can I copy a sequence from a timeline and place it anywhere else on the timeline. Used to be so easy in a previous premiere version. Now copy and paste does not work at all anymore. And whenever I want to add a clip onto a layer, I have to shut all used layers, because otherwise the sound goes anywhere but where it should and might just place itself within another sound-layer.Used to be all much better and simpler in previous editions.

since I updated my Mac OS to 10.9.2, my Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 has a problem: when I import MTS-files (AVCHD) from a Sony video camera, I get the video, but I don’t get the audio! That’s strange, because when I import other video formats like mp4, everything is fine, and I get video AND audio.
I also tried Premiere CC test version, but there’s the same problem.
Before my update I had Mac OS 10.6 and Premiere worked fine.

the original clip is visible perfectly fine, however the edited version now just looks like three coloured bricks instead of an image, and in the preview is simply a blank screen. I can export the clip and view it fine that way, however the quality is much lesser.I'm about to give up on this entirely.

I am editing footage for a nonprofit and they gave me footage of an interview that is an MPEG Movie, 1920 x 1080, Frame Rate: 29.97 and Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.0. There is no in camera audio, but there was audio recorded separately in a .wav file. The interview was shot on a Canon 60D and I created a sequence from the .MOV file off the camera and put in the separate audio file. The problem is when I sync the beginning it will stay in sync for about 2 seconds before it slowly gets off sync the longer it runs. The video doens't look like it is running fast, but I have to slow it to almost 80% before the audio even matches for more than a second. I don't understand why they will not sync up.

So the option to add Adding Video/Audio Tracks to Timeline are "grey'd out" and what's even more strange is that they don't even have the one or two tracks that are usually in the timeline when you open new project.
