Photoshop :: Sunlight/shadows

Aug 7, 2009

I want to place a sunlit object from one photo into another photo where the sky is gray and the light is diffuse.The surfaces which are half sunlit and half shadow in the first photo would appear unnatural in the second where light is diffuse.  Does anybody know a technique where these light extremes could be evened out on the object?

Photoshop :: Sunlight From Windows

Apr 24, 2008

Im a CS2 user and have a photo

As you can probably see the problem is with the brillant sunlight pouring through the windows. I have played around with the curves, but it just looks too dark and still white light through those windows. I was going to find a new background for each window cut out and replace and then play with the curves to bring the light down in the rest of the room.

GIMP :: How To Make Object Look Like It Has More Sunlight On It

Aug 10, 2012

image editing in general, so I'm not sure what how to really say what mean because I don't know the correct terms (If there are any).

The most I can do to clarify what I mean is offer two examples. The first is a picture I found:

[URL]

The sunlight hits her head at the very top right of the image and transitions from white (direct sunlight) to brown (indirect sunlight) to black (almost no sunlight). Also, the light directly touches her hands and legs (white) and then transitions to indirect (pink).

The second example I can offer is on this very forum. On the header, if you look at the larger GIMP dog balloon (I think they're dogs, anyway...) you can see the white oval on top of the purple-ish nose. If you look at the top of the nose, right before it transitions to the black outline, you see an almost reflection-like effect.

Is there a function in GIMP to do this? Or, at least, some sort of work-around?

Photoshop :: Drop Shadows

Apr 23, 2004

I found great use with the Drop Shadow ability. Especially when used with text; a nice soft, lighty blurred drop shadow would do wonders for the overall image.

But too many times do I see graphics with that ugly, heavy, and greatly offset dropshadow. Sure enough it actually DETRACTS the realism from the image.

Photoshop :: Gradient Shadows?

Oct 10, 2006

Iwhen I do a shadow I put my subject (selection) on a new layer. I then use Command Delete to turn it black. Transform>Distort to lay it down and place it where I want it and finally the layer opacity and Guassian Blur to feather it. If you really want extra realism you should taper the shadow from dark next to the subject to light at the far end. Finally my question - How do I taper the density of the shadow from dark to almost completely transparent?

Photoshop :: How To Remove Shadows?

Sep 13, 2005

I'm editing some photographs in Photoshop and because of the sunlight, all my subjects have a dark shadow covering part of their neck/throat areas and shirt collars. I used the both the healing brush and patch tools to fix up the shirt areas and they look fine. However, whenever I tried using these tools using non-shadow areas of their neck as sampled areas, the results always look bad. Their necks, even though shadows are removed, look like plastic or plaster rather than real human skin. How would I remove these shadows from their necks without causing an unrealistic looking skin?

Photoshop :: Drop Shadows

Oct 14, 2008

I don't get drop shadows. I can apply a drop shadow to an object on a layer, then if I apply a drop shadow to another item on another layer the drop shadow on the first item is changed to be the same as the new drop shadow that I am applying to the second object/layer.

Why does a new drop shadow, on a different layer, affect a previous drop shadow on a separate layer? How can I apply different drop shadows to different layers?

I have it all set up with the transparent background and it looks as it should in .psd format, but when I attempt to save it as a .gif (appparently this and .png are the only formats that support transparency), the shadow ends up looking like black and white. Is this just the drawback of .gif colors or what?

Photoshop :: More Realistic Shadows

Mar 2, 2006

I work with virtual shoe samples, that means that many times I have to draw shoes from sketch and make them realistic. Observing real shoes, I noticed that when an area is going away to background, it does not only gets darker, but also loses a bit of its saturation and contrast. So my doubt is how to make a gradient loss of saturation and contrast. Maybe it could be done both with brushes or blending options (which I already use for shadows),

I've got drop shadows on layers to help accentuate the edges, which is working fine. However, many of the lines overlap and when the shadows go over the top of each other they tend to "multiply" and get darker as they overlap.

I've tried changing the blending modes from multiply, to normal to ?. Do to I go about not getting the shadows to build up?

Photoshop :: Shadows On Web Elements?

How do you add a shadow to an element in a webpage? This effect is very popular and I see it on a lot of websites out there. For an example of what I mean, take a look at the Blogger site. See the shadows on each side of the content box? That's exactly what I want to do, but I don't quite grasp how it's possible, especially if you are using a background that isn't a solid color, such as a tiled pattern. How could you create the shadows to work seamlessly with any background? What kind of code would you use to implement the shadows once you made them?
