Photoshop :: Lasso Lesson

Jun 18, 2009

I sometimes get lucky with the magic lasso, but often times both tools kind of select stuff i dont want. In windows you can hold ctrl and select/deselect certain files in windows even though they are not next to each other. I thought i read somewhere that holding alt or ctrl (windows) will do the trick but it doesnt. Anyone know if a good online tutorial or have any tips on learning to use lasso?

Photoshop :: Polygonal Lasso

in my line of work i depend a lot on the polygonal lasso tool for cutting out even the most detailed of photos. but sometimes the polygonal lasso's 'rope' icon gets in the way of my cutting path making the procedure rather difficult at times. i know there is a way of removing that 'rope', but i just don't know how.

Photoshop :: Magnetic Lasso

Apr 20, 2009

my magnetic lasso stopped working how it use to.

Adobe Photoshop 7.0

When you click on the magnetic lasso tool it doesnt always let you select what you want to select, sometimes it will say "Warning: no pixels are more than 50% selected. The selected edges will not be visible". Other times instead of actually selecting anything close to the area I selected it just makes a circle looking lasso instead, which typically eliminates the sharp edges I would like to select at times.

I know at some point in time the magnetic lasso allowed me to select every sharp edge and every detailed spot I wanted, so what did I click? I tried reinstalling photoshop and that didnt help.

Photoshop :: CS2- Wand/Lasso

Oct 23, 2005

I want to select some object from an image using the Magic Wand or the Lasso tools, how do I select just that image without it including unwanted elements, or not including everything I want.

Example, picture of my truck, I want to take the truck out and put it on another image, but everytime I try the wand, it either takes things I don't want, surrounding background elements etc, or doesn't take the whole truck.

I just can't seem to get it to select everything and ONLy what I want. Isn't there a way to just outline on the very outermost regions the element I want?

Photoshop :: Can't Pan While Using Lasso Tool And Tablet?

Mar 29, 2012

Photoshop CS5
Wacom Intuos 3

When working in a layered document (PSD) and making a selection using the Lasso Tool and/or Polygonal Lasso Tool I am unable to pan by holding the SPACE bar. Yet, if using the mouse, panning works great.Sometimes very early on in making the Lasso selection, using my tablet, I can pan if I'm patient - gotta hold SPACE and attempt to pan and if I wait long enough it'll actually do it. But after I've placed a bunch of points, forget it.

The larger the doc and the more layers it has the worse it is.

Photoshop :: Magnetic Lasso Tool

Mar 22, 2013

I've been suing the magnetic lasso tool to make a selection of a group of people; there is a lot of going between legs and over heads, etc.  But invariably when I get about half way through the selection the magnetic lasso tool acts as if I've completed the selection, i.e. I tap the image and the point of the last tap suddenly is connected with my point of origin.  I have done this several times, making sure that I didn't tap too hard or anything like that, but that seems not to be the problem (I'm using CS6/Mac 10.6.8, for what it's worth).

So, my question is: is there a way to erase part of the selection?  I know about the add to/subtract from the selection; but that's not getting me back to where I need.  For example, the line that cuts through my group, the line going from my end point to point of origin, well, if I can delete that line and continue on from the end point that might resolve this problem.

Photoshop :: Fonts / Filters / Lasso

Aug 16, 2005

Is there anyplace where I can acquire good fonts or filters to apply to text? Most of my current ones only change it's color, size, or the lusture of the edges.

I'm also sort of a photoshop noob. I was wondering if there was any way to exclude something from a lasso. For example, I get an image where someone is carrying an object that makes a white area between the body and arms. I magnetic lasso the whole thing but it includes the white space which I dont want when I move the image to another picture, is it possible to exlude that white space somehow?

Photoshop :: Magnetic Lasso Best Tool?

I have two layers overlapping, and want to select only the overlapping section. I made both layers less opaque so I could see the exact intersection lines. I've been playing around with the Magnetic Lasso Tool a bit lately, and it's reminded me just how great it is. I think it's one of those selection tools that's often overlooked. It does an admirable job especially if you follow up with the new refine edge controls.

Anybody else got any views on the tool?

Photoshop :: Magnetic Lasso Problem

Apr 19, 2008

The first is the original image that I would like to remove the background from. The second picture is my attempt with the magnetic lasso. It left areas that are very rough, particularly near the base of the flower that seem to include portions of the background. My question is how would a pro do this to ensure smooth boundaries all around and if this is the best that the lasso can do, what else do I need to do to fix the areas that are rough?

Photoshop :: About Using Magnetic Lasso Tool In...

May 4, 2008

I seem to be having a problem using the Magnetic Lasso Tool In Photoshop CS3 Extended as when I get half way around an egales beak zoomed in at 66.67% and start to single click around the tight corners the photo is covered over with a white background and the palettes to the right of the Photo e.g.

layers, channels, paths becomes white to and all you can see is the paths that the Magnetic Lasso Tool has made around the beak until you click any key on the keyboard but the annoying thing about doing that is that the path automatically becomes selected there for I am unable to draw the paths around the rest of the beak does anyone know of a patch of some kind that will correct this error?

I have been trying to use the magnetic lasso tool in Photoshop 7 to select part of an image. I want to extract as much detail as possible, so I have been zooming in real close and laying down a lot of anchors mapping out the image. When I am nearing completion, I get an error message saying that it is too complex to complete. Is there a way to adjust the magnetic lasso tool, so that it will stop giving me an error, or is there a better why to select a complex image?

Photoshop :: Any Way To Carry On Lasso Selection Once Released It

Jun 8, 2012

Is there any way to "carry on" a lasso selection once you have released it?

What do I do if I make a mistake with the lasso tool right at the end of a big lasso? How to I delete the little bit it messed up and carry on where I left off with the selection?

Also, how do I "add" to a lasso selection? Say I have made a magnetic lasso selection and it selects my t shirt ok but cuts across the neck line of my t shirt (thus cutting off my head) because it cant tell the difference between the background and head. How do I then use the manual lasso to cut around my head and join the two pieces together into one selection?

Photoshop :: Combine Quick Select With Lasso?

Mar 19, 2013

The Quick Select Tool is great at selecting irregularly shaped objects with well-defined boundaries, and the Refine Edge dialogue box is good at making small, important adjustments to complex "soft" borders like a person's hair. But what I most often need to do is isolate a figure that has good contrast against part, but not all of its background. Imagine a person in a tan shirt standing partly in front of a dark green bush and partly in front of a tan house. The QST will be great for the bush, but it always explodes the selection to the house or cuts the guy's arm off.

Is there a way of getting more or less the selection I want, and then using the plain old lasso tool to add or subtract finer manual selection?

While using the Lasso tool often (10% of the time) it will complete the selection pre-maturely, with a single left click. Similarly and about the same frequency it wont start a path at all and I will need to click again to begin the selection. This has been happening for 5months since I upgraded to Creative Clous and Photoshop CC. Im running a more than capable machine.

Is there any known resolution for this?
