I am currently working on a wallpaper and I have run into a bit of a road block. I was hoping someone here might be able to lend a helping hand or perhaps offer some tips as to how I might jump this hurdle.

I need the white outer glow to be used in the layer mask to appear as a gradient (glow effect). How do I achieve this?
I want to put an outer glow round the policeman. I've been trying but I must be missing one important step. I can get a glow or shadow rounf the whole square frame ...... but I want it just around the figure.
I've tried uploading the image here .... but it keeps tellin me that my photo (which is only 45kb) and is called McFadden.jpg is not a valid file type. The photo is a plain white background with an image cut out of a policeman on it. I want to put the glow around the policeman.
I'm trying to make a thin outline around my text. I read that outer glow is the feature to use but I cant seem to make it work. Is outer glow the way to make outlines or is there a different way?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to implement some effects in C++ for my user interface controls. I've figured out that Photoshop Layer Styles uses an anti-aliased form of the Euclidean Distance Transform for "Precise" techniques (Inner Glow and Outer Glow).
But what is the method used for the "Softer" technique for Outer Glow and Inner Glow? It seems this is also used for the "Smooth" technique when computing the height map for Bevel and Emboss.
I am in the process of creating a flier and I am running into a problem with my type. In my head line I am attempting to use an outter glow but when I do I get a choppy distortion on my letters. It isn't all that aparent when I look at it in photoshop but when I export it to a pdf you can tell and it is really obvious when I print it. There has be no noise added to any of the effects applied to the type. In fact the only other effect applied to the type is a gradient overlay.
I am using photoshop cs6 on a mac running 10.6.8
Are the light rays made using outer glow around invisible lines? If not how can I make the white light rays like that in photoshop or illustrator?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to make a neat planet image for some hobby stuff I'm working on. I have an image (2048x1024) as a texture (from the program Fractal Terrains). I can render it into 3D using Shape3D (AWESOME plugin, btw).
Now I'm trying to add the inner and outer glow on the planet. I guess I'm not well enough versed in PDN to follow it exactly... my results aren't getting me where I want to be (yet, I know it works because others are praising the author).
Anyhow, here's the link to the original Glow tutorial. Here's an example of the type of effect I'm looking for -- the purplish halo around the planet.
I am using Illustrator CS5. I am trying to put an outer glow on text that I have done the 'create outlines' to. My settings are Normal color is white opacity is 90% and blur is 10mm. I hit OK and nothing shows up. If I change the color I use then I get the glow. The thing is I need the white glow. Can I not use white or am I missing something else?

I've hit some kind of hotkey that turns raster effects off or something, but I dont even know where to start looking. I've used glows in the past and its always a bit wonky but now it just wont do anything.
I've been using spot colors, but have tried it without to no effect, and I run windows 8. I want to apply it to the compound shape hammer time, I thought maybe it was not working because of the compound shape so I tried getting rid of my inside shapes, but its not really changing.
I did just notice that there is a weird haze around the top hammer time on this image, but ONLY if you turn your head and look at the monitor from a strange angle can you really see it. So it might just be that I screwed up my glow settings here.
I'm trying to get the glow to be very strong for about half an inch and the fade out.
Since upgrading the AI CC (17.0.0), when applying an outer glow effect to objects, the effect sometimes expands its appearance involuntarily after saving and closing the file. The outcome is similar to selecting "expand appearance" from the Object menu.
When the saved file is reopened, the outer glow effect has become is its own object, grouped with the original shape. You can no longer adjust the effect in the Appearance panel.
I'm created a photo of an alien boy being beamed down to someone's house in a cone of bright white light from a flying saucer, and I tried to use the "layer style" to create the glowing light effect in this cone of bright light - but somehow I'm not getting the "glow" effect that I got before. I'm stumped as to what I'm doing wrong/not doing right to produce the glow effect. In other words, the outer/inner glow effect no longer works. Can anyone please help me?

The image above is some text with various blending options applied ... well a part of it.
I have applied and outerglow and a drop shadow to the text. But, I want that gap to be filled with white and to have no drop shadow as you can see.
How can I achieve that? I assume with some sort of masking? I want to ensure the text can be resized so rasterizing and painting that area white is not an option.
I'm not quite sure what I did to screw this up, but for the past few days, I can't fully airbrush blend/ remove parts of an image when layer masking (i.e. when airbrushing out @ 100% hardness, opacity, fill, flow... all the good stuff... the image I'm trying to airbrush out remains as though I've just taken the opacity or fill down to about 5%). I've tried messing with different types of brushes, but nothing seems to work.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am having trouble in Photoshop CS6 trying to erase outer edges on a pasted video layer I have a short animated video I am working on but when I paste an animated video from file I cannot erase the outer edges because every time I try to do this it converts the pasted video to a smart object and then when I only gives the option to rasterize the pasted video layer, after it is rasterized it becomes a static image which dosent have any animation at all. Is there any way I can erase the edges around the video layer without this happening?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm making this image that illustrates a famous dadaist quote and one thing im trying to do is make a couple words out of a painting. This is unclear so I will explain.
I have made a layer that only has rasterised white text on it. There are three words, each spread out about two inches from the other (vertically). One of the words has a pretty interesting blur effect on it (this is significant). There is a painting I like.
I want the white text to be filled with the corresponding areas on the painting. This means the text will actually be made OF the painting. Now i considered just clicking on the outside of the text hitting select inverse and just going to the layer with the painting and cutting out the selection of the text.
However, if you remember, one of the words has an interesting blur effect which will then be lost, but I want the blur to be retained. On that note, I know this has to be done via a layer mask over the painting layer, BUT i cant paste the white text into the mask nor can i retype it without a new layer being created.
how to airbrush. I have been using it since. Copying layer adding noise and blur and then layer masking and painting with the brush tool. All of the sudden the last step no longer works. I paint and no layer shines through. I must have done somthing to a setting.
View 1 Replies View RelatedOk first of all explanation this Is a photo I took of a friend his favourite movie is the matrix (I know dated now) he has an online tag of Gadg3t man all though you will not see it in this pic it is only 10% of the size all of his body is actually like a circuit board which I spent way to much time on luckily I managed to save a jpeg but not the psd file before our bilding power went out I want to add a white inner glow to every little character in the matrix letters not the Gadg3tman part but all those tiny little letters without doing the whole picture again and without doing it all manually with a paint brush I have tried to do a preset pattern and it just looks worse of a way to achieve this bearing in mind I dont have the layers and I cant really add another layer with glow effects it needs to be subtle and constrained within the tiny characters or am I going to have to redo the whole pic again

View 6 Replies View RelatedI try freezing my proposed storm structures inside Viewport for Existing Conditions sheet. My proposed DI's freeze because they use a block (in structure style). My proposed headwalls use the outer part boundary from catalog. BUT both DI and Headwall Style Component Layers are set to C-STRM-STRC.
In the pic for Existing Conditions Layout, you see a white headwall boundary. In proposed layout, you see a magenta headwall boundary. It's using the Object Layer and not the component layers for the headwall.
I didn't see another way to logically set up Object Layers for Pipes and Structures that contain Existing and Proposed Water, Storm, and Sanitary. My Object Layers have Pipes set to C-UTIL-PIPE and Structures set to C-UTIL-STRC, BUT the Component Layers inside the style are specific. Example: Existing Storm Structures and Pipes have layers such as V-STRM-PIPE and V-STRM-STRC. Proposed Storm would have Component Layers such as C-STRM-PIPE and C-STRM-STRC. The Object Layer for both existing and proposed use C-UTIL-PIPE and C-UTIL-STRC.
